  1. Wow, WS. Ugh...scary and so very sad. I got home to Fairbanks today, and the local radio news station just mentioned the Steven's Pass Avalanche. My deepest and sincere condolences to the family and friends of those who perished.
  2. University of Alaska in Anchorage may also be an option since you can ice climb glaciers all summer, too, with 24 hours of light! Just a thought.... there are probably better areas though.
  3. Is that where you cram on painful little shoes (with C4 stealth soles), pretend to be a gecko, contort and twist your body up some smooth rock wall hundreds of feet towards the sky, and then when you get to the top, there's Mr. McFatty Fat Fuck--with partially exposed beer gut-- looking at you disapprovingly and says, "Fuuuck, did you know you coulda just drove up this?" ?? Hmm....I should try it, too.
  4. Right on, DD! Those folks who flocked to Vantage missed out. That Matt fellow sounds like an awesome, thoughtful, cool, bad ass dude...I bet he's super hot, too.
  5. Thanks, Jim. Yeh, I know the folks of which you speak, and I'm not better than they are really. I do know I should care but I'm just having a hard time. It's just upsetting to me. Also, not to mislead folks...I do love being an American and don't take my freedoms for granted. I am grateful for being born here. You know what? Let's see how my state of mind is a few months from now when I move back to Central WA...maybe I'll be on of those folks holding signs on the street corner encouraging all to vote!
  6. That is true for most. I think that's why I chose Alaska to live at this point in my life. We're a certain rare breed up here and the Lower 48 mentality doesn't really apply to us. Maybe we are all self absorbed to some degree... In Interior Alaska what I like is that folks are sure willing to help and go out of their way: We help folks get diesel for their stove if they run out at 50 below, offer to help light a fire under cars when there oil pan heater goes out, help to haul water if their car won't start, offer a gun or bear spray if they go out in the bush to help with grizzly protection, help the neighbor cut up his moose, and make sure his dogs are fed and watered if he's out of town. We run 50K's to raise money for folks with cancer and leukemia.... good people up here...I just can't seem to care much about politics is all.
  7. I guess I need to lighten up a little. But I'm definitely not someone who votes on a whim and supports a certain candidate because they're the most in vogue.
  8. Awwww yeh..... I love this song! I first heard it on the Mountain 103.7... I miss the Mountain.
  9. Point taken. I guess that's why I like living in a small dry cabin in Interior Alaska. I'm too busy trying to stay warm here and survive to be concerned about anything else!! hmm...maybe I need to reconsider moving back to the US??
  10. Is there a remix-techno version? I can't dance to this!
  11. Right on! I'm glad, relieved you do!
  12. I could give a flying fuck who the next president of the US is. I totally know this is a ignorant defeatist attitude but I REALLY don't care and I'm not angry or anything...just detached. Does it matter anymore? I'm saturated with lying rhetoric from any party. I'm not liberal, democrat, conservative...I'm an un label. I have no TV, spend much of my time outdoors, and now I don't even turn on the radio. I'm as happy as can be!! I guess ignorance is truly bliss.
  13. I second what Rob said. And if you have a friend with a similar drive you can learn together. Just be smart about things.
  14. Thanks Monty, and all. I was looking at a place to rent and didn't want to advertise the address. Looks like it's not a good place though. I fly into Pangborn in a few months to look around the area.... it would be nice if I could be moved down there by April. I hardly have any stuff (just gear and clothes) so it will be easy compared to most folks who own furniture. Thanks!
  15. Man...so close, but no, no it doesn't Oly. Sorry... Unless.... are you familiar with the Dryden airport area???
  16. Aww, that was so cool to read, pcg. Thanks! Glad to know such a person of high caliber exists in the world, regardless of fame or not.
  17. She should do this race-- Iditarod Invitational My friend and race coordinator (Kathi Merchant) was the first woman to ride her bike on the trail which took 28 days...a lot of pushing! She is one badass woman and very humble. Hmm...they probably even know each other already.
  18. Hey! So..um....does anyone know.....is Dean Potter now available after the divorce? What???
  19. Any climbers here live in Cashmere or very familiar with the area? I need to ask you a locale question. There is free beer involved for information provided when I roll into town (Wenatchee) on Feb 23. Word.
  20. Steph Davis seems like a really neat person I read her book and read a few little blog posts she had. What a fun, kooky, accomplished, determined person...who really seems to put her money were her mouth is.... she makes the world a better place! I'd love to meet her--I'm working then, but I'll pass the information a long. Thanks!
