  1. Black Diamond Zion Haul Bag - $160 Portland delivery. No shipping please. New in plastic. Ended up going with a smaller bag.
  2. Lost: Mountain Hardware puffy. Black. Women's XS/S. Misplaced in the darkness at the base of Careno Crag or at Snow Creek Trailhead parking lot. Will gladly compensate with good karma and/or beer. Thanks.
  3. Fantastic photos. Would have loved to see more of the Great Basin. I'm very envious. Attempted the North Bro, approaching from the upper East Fork but was shut down by poor visibility & avalanche concerns. My stomach was in a huge knot that day. Perhaps that is one small advantage to not having one. Cheers to your health & a beautiful Olympic day.
  4. Nice job on the solo. So, are both reachy/hook moves located after the P3 mid belay anchor? Also, can P2 + P3 really be combined with a 60m (w/partner)? Thanks.
  5. Found one mother-of-pearl earring while looking for a good belay spot at the top of Moscow. Smith Rock.
  6. Thanks for the report on the Peregrine Traverse and drive times. The reference on Summitpost to g orton's website appears to be obsolete. Does Acker Rock sometimes re-open early, in June, after its closure for falcon nesting? Been interested in combining a shasta ski and peregrine traverse climb in the same week.
  7. Attending a conference in Vegas and desperately want to climb at Red Rocks. With purchased airplane ticket and legit excuse, my climbing partner just bailed on me. My goal was to lead a few of the 5.6-5.8 classic multi-pitch routes. At this point, if necessary, I would be happy to belay strangers on single pitch sport, all day, surrounded by the red rocks - that's mostly true Have necessary trad gear. Availability: Sept 28-29 + a few other week days/late afternoons

  9. I think there is a place for one tricam on the first pitch Loved the swim in flapjacks as well. Thanks for the trip report.
  10. What about Washington's SE Ridge? Wondering if its 5.7 rating is much more challenging than it sounds, since it's the Olympics? Not completely ready to swing leads on this yet but hoping next year Thanks
  11. Need to climb Constance and Olympus before I can answer that. Drederek, what's your favorite / recommended route on Washington??? Ready to explore other routes besides the standard one.
  12. Thanks. Are two lanes passable or just one? The last time I skied it, the top bowl was worth a few short laps but spring climbers crowded the chute. Yes, fascinating. Supposedly there once was a ski cabin at Flapjack Lakes so I've been curious about touring around the Gladys Divide, playing around Mt Gladys and the Black and White Lakes. Or, approaching from Staircase, climbing over Needle Pass (might as well climb Cruiser) and returning via Mildred Lakes on a multi-day ski tour. Challenging approaches from either direction (I'd certainly lose my way ) and unlikely for the stars to align with perfect avy, weather, etc conditions but fun to dream about. Perhaps this is why the ski cabin never worked out...not worth the maintenance. Also wondered if anyone has skied any of the inner peaks accessed via the Dry Creek Trail? Or approached Cooper Mountain from Mt Rose's backside with skis??
  13. If you are super sensitive to poison oak/ivy, "Tecnu" cream is available to minimize chances of breaking out. They sell products to put on before and after exposure. It used to be hard to find but Fred Meyer might even carry it now.
  14. Watch out for the ones who enjoy pushing rocks off onto unsuspecting climbers...south brother two years ago.
  15. Last week at RR as well, following on Group Therapy, getting through the fifth pitch when a little redish critter jumped out and startled me. It took off too quickly for me to identify. Looked like a fox but not exactly?
  16. I was there that day, coming down, when we stopped to talk to the owner. She was ascending with her companion and dog, above the winter chute, below the summit. There was one goat acting more aggressive than usual and we warned the owner beforehand then continued down not knowing what happened till the posting on CC. Fortunately, it turned out well and the people who helped were amazing. My dog had 4 wheel overdrive on the snow and was the best hiking/xc ski/swimming partner. We used to stick Foster's beer in her pack for over nighters. The Cody dog would make a great tent mate...extra warmth and probably a great cuddler.
  17. After reading ryanb's posting and corresponding wildsnow article, I contacted G3 to find out how to replace my first season pins. I was also having issues with the older, less-secure heel lifters. Last week, I received a box from Vancouver BC containing new (redesigned) toe pins and heel lifters at no cost. Extremely happy with their customer service.
  18. My 2 nieces and nephew all started at 3 years. This was surprising since my sister is overly protective to the extreme (easy for me to say since I am not a mother). This year at the age of 8, my niece skied her first double diamonds. My sister currently rents the kids gear seasonally instead of buying it. At 4, my parents stuck me in the ski center's daycare. Apparently I cried bloody murder and pouted until they set me free and gave me skis. It was a bad approach since I still cry & pout if I don't get to the mountains enough. I was not allowed on the chairlift for the first few days. Instead, I was taught by hiking up with my gear and pizza-slice-skiing down what appeared at the time to be a massive hill next to the lodge…I quickly learned. The T-bar was the most terrifying though riding the one at SkiBowl now brings a stupid grin to my face. Great memories.
  19. WTF. So troubling. I should limit my reading to Spray about fat kitties.
  20. Funny, never knew camels liked cardboard. Really appreciate your climbing photos and website! Good to see positive experiences posted about the middle east as well.
  21. Drederek - Nice photos. Can't exactly figure out the location of the last one...did you also do the traverse?
  22. Recently returned from there. It was magical and I can't stop dreaming about it. Saw this report from Aneroid http://www.wallowaavalanchecenter.org/node/525 Enjoy & be safe.
  23. Offtopic...Are photos available?? How were the ski and avy conditions last week?
  24. Oh thanks for responding without a negative comment, I was being a dumbass and didn't realize the gunk and new paltz were the same:blush:
