  1. I'm so young and musically ignorant that I didn't even get the reference. Jimmy who? Is that black and white? Whats that? LOL!
  2. Trip: Trail Lake Coulee - Spanish Castle Magic Date: 11/6/2011 Trip Report: We had a little time Sunday afternoon and ran out to Trail Lake Coulee to check it out. I just learned about this area and its close to home so I thought it might be fun. Sure its cold but oh well. In the picture the route we climbed is just to the right of center under the sharp notch in the ridgeline. Of course I left the guidebook at home so we climbed the first route that looked remotely do-able. Looking back at the guidebook I think we (10 yr old son and I) climbed Spanish Castle Magic 5.8. The route had at least one football sized rock that we could have easily pried loose but decided to let the ice this winter do it for us. There were several other loose chunks to avoid and the routes all looked dirty in general. What made the trip worth it was the fact that we had the coulee to ourselves. So after one lap each, the girls decided to bail and go sit in the van with all of our warm clothes, we decided to call it a night since was getting dark and really cold. We will be back though. I think this is my first TR!
  3. Very cool pics. I always saw the ads for those tower tech courses but never heard from anyone who took them. Glad to see they are legit. I used to make the steel tower portion until the plant I worked at in Eastern Wa. closed down. I have a lot of hope for the industry.
  4. The flying spagetti monster always makes me smile. Any excuse to get an extra paid holiday gets votes. Based on what I do know, secular humanism is incapable of answering the questions of origin, meaning, morality and destiny. Any worldview that does not answer these is incomplete. Of course there is no adaptive advantage to having a god-shaped hole in your heart so it leads me to think that there must be an answer outside the secular. All christians want to know is who you think Jesus is/was. But, for obvious reasons that upsets people. Cheers!
  5. Is there a place online where we can read a few blurbs from the book? Basing this on the little posted here. When someone criticizes God or his followers they sound a lot less like an atheist and more like believers who simply don't like God. Maybe agnostic is a better title. Since no one knows everything I think that all we can say is, "based on what I DO know, I believe that..."
  6. Its odd how the same people who hate the pharmaceutical industry also want free medicine from the government. Do we want big pharm companies inventing medicine for our government to give to us for free or not? Or is it more of the "F#$k all corporations" mantra we hear? Will a democracy only last until the people realize they can vote themselves money out of the state treasury?
  7. I like the looks of his personal "photographer" which is a Russian word meaning "sex slave"

What would you do without corporations? You gonna refine your own oil in your mom's basement? You gonna research your own medicine? Build your own car? All these anti-corporate type assume that anyone with more $$ than them somehow got it dishonestly. They can't fathom that someone might be more innovative, intelligent or harder working than them. Even if someone does inherit some $$ whats wrong with that? I hope to leave something for my kids, I think we all wish for that. Don't hate someone because they are more clever at making $$ than you are. Ask them for a job. If you don't like the terms, quit.
  9. Yes, lets hurt business then I won't have any healthcare to complain about. Or a paycheck. Lets end all those big oil companies too. Then we can refine our own oil in our garages, that ought to work.

The causes for the labor movement are things of the past with modern labor laws. The union's job is done, time to go away in the US. My former unions mainly tried to block employee drug screening so the good union boys could go on comming to work high. The teachers union I worked for faught so that teachers would get paid, not by of ability but rather who could go on longest without getting fired. The UAW destroyed GM. Really, $45 an hour and a pension for life for a riveter with NO skills? Why NOT build overseas?

As a former member of three different unions (UFCW, Teamsters, Teachers) I can say that the intimidation and threats they use against their employers are nothing compared to what they use against their members. I don't need a union to tell me who to vote for. Unions were great in the 1930s. I am glad that unions are fading into irrelevancy as right to work laws march ahead. www.youtube.com/watch?v=IAGoBjrCnqc
  12. I used to write a TON of tickets, let me help you a little on this. The ticket is to the registered owner of the car. It is up to the courts to prove it was you parking/driving. You don't have to proove you WEREN'T driving, just create reasonable doubt. I would NEVER advoocate lying in court BUT if you said you weren't driving it that week or that a friend had been borrowing it they would have to proove that you were. This also works for speed camera tickets. Good luck.(free advice is worth what you pay for it)
  13. $15/hr? At least they tell you before you apply. Maybe a recent single college grad. Sometimes it seems like none of the fun jobs pay decently. If they did, I'd still be fighting forest fires.
  14. Can't wait to try these rare earth magnet 'biners next to my compass, GPS, wallet or Cell Phone.
  15. I was just there this last weekend. You can do it in one day easy if you leave Cold Springs at 03:00 or earlier. Sunny days soften things up faster but it is still doable. We have gone twice (with my 9 and 11 yr old) and camping at Lunch Counter is pleasant. Evening at LC is fantasic when its clear. I found the glissade nice by 09:00. Depends on conditions of course. The cruddy thing is that the glissade from Piker's will be nice but the rest might be too soft by then but the Piker's glissade is the best. Also, there is a wierd crevasse/'shrund at the lip of Piker's right now. We were in whiteout (me and my son) and might have missed it on the way down so we bailed. In nice weather it ought to be fine.
  16. Can't believe he gave you that weak-ass handshake, I mean, Look at that shirt! Heroic!
  17. Wilderness just got a little more wild. As it ought to be.
  18. Vantage is WDFW land I think so the $12 permit from them should do. Peshastin is a State Park so the Discovery Pass would apply. Remember a few years ago when the state parks started charging admission fees? Didn't visitation PLUMMET and the fees get recinded pretty quick? Hopefully this will happen again. I understand the fees though, those five-martini lunches in OLYMPIA are expensive. And those sports stadiums in Seattle we voted not to fund but got built anyway weren't cheap either.
  19. I like Thorlo socks but I am also loving the Defeet bamboo socks, they seem less stinky. Or just go with sandals, I hear they are easier to remove as you are being raped.
  20. Saturday that shitter had a 5.10 pile of shit that rose several inches above the level of the lid. After swallowing back my vomit at the smell I thought to myself that the pile looked a lot like Kaleetan peak. One shitter at Vantage is like one woman on a navy cruiser on a six month cruise. WAY overused but you still want to try using it just to see...
  21. Very helpful, thanks all. Respect.
