  1. Cool, I used to build the steel tower portion. I never got to go to the installation and climb one but it looks cool.
  2. Forgive me if this is a repetitive question. I am looking onto crevasse rescue courses this Spring. I'm considering the AAI, RMI or NW Mountain School from L-worth. Any opinions on any of these? Is there a better alternative? Thanks.
  3. Why were we ever afraid of these people? WOLVERINES!

    shutdown

So does this mean we don't need a forest pass to park at a TH? Can I sneak into the Enchantments fear-free? I hope wondering this doesn't make me a bad person. Well, actually I don't care.

    kids crampons

I use BD Contact Strap crampons for my clones. They adjust to pretty small size. My 9 year old wears them just fine.
  6. Chris nailed it. This exact same thing used to happen when I was a cop and people found out; out came the "once an asshole cop did me wrong" stories. People all have an idea what people in certain professions ought to be, which boils down to "just like me." People judge others by their actions and themselves by their intentions. They seem to walk around wondering, "why can't everyone be more like me?" Guides vs. non-guided is reminiscent of the old frat guy vs. GDI arguments.

    Who?

I mentioned something about Fred Beckey to the guy I've been climbing with for the last two years. He said, "Fred who?" I am ashamed.
  8. Looking to go hike Granite Mtn. next weekend to shake the cobwebs off. Is the snow pack stable yet or is it still kinda early? I have zero avy gear beyond a shovel and no training so I want to wait till avy season is pretty much over yet still have enough snow to practice self-arrest with some friends. Anyone been up there lately? Is there a better option?
  9. Now they need to sign up for selective service. If they can serve in combat only if they feel like it, but can't be drafted, that's not equal rights.
  10. I'm looking for a nice pair of gently used skis. Wonder if I should hit up Feck.
  11. Chick fil a is just being used as a battleground for the left and right, its like Afghanistan. Isn't this all over some reporter who asked the company president his opinion on something? So the guy has an opinion, bfd! He's entitled to it. You know what they say about opinions.
  12. I want one of these for my car:

  14. Remove the waistbelt from the pack.
  15. Trip: Kaleetan Peak - South scramble Date: 7/23/2012 Trip Report: I'd love to post a dozen cool pictures of us on this climb but they're pretty much just pictures of clouds. Seriously though this was the first alpine climb for my eleven year old son who climbed like an animal, doing all of the route finding through the mist and scrambling like a chipmunk up to the summit. I was pretty proud of him. We only saw one other party headed up to the summit and they said they would probably turn back after lunch. Route still requires an ice axe but crampons are not a requirement.
  16. I wish I had heard from you earlier but next time I will try that area. I actually chose to climb at Billy Clapp lake that weekend. We did a few 20-ish foot climbs from the waterline to cliffs that are popular cliff jumping spots. I don't have any pictures but the routes we climbed were just out of sight North of the boat launch at the South end. We estimated their grades (I am in no way qualified to rate a climb) to be between 5.6-5.8, fun enough that the kids (ages 13, 11 and 8) could climb easily with life jackets on. I second the notion that the scary part is the jump down, but totally worth it. We named the three routes re FAd Chossy With a Chance of Thunder (5.6?) Tofu Killer's Revenge (5.8) and another similar climb that I can't remember what we named. As the name implies we tossed off A LOT of loose rocks during the climbing.
  17. Duly elected for the past 20 years, they like him there.
  18. So much for wearing an avy beacon in that one.
  19. Looks like we will either be at Billy Clapp (sounds like a disease I know) or Deep Lake.
  20. I appreciate the feedback, at the worse we'll have a good day of swimming.
  21. Looking to swim/climb in the Banks Lake Area. Anything up to 5.10. Anyone have any ideas for some good spots? I have a boat with only an electric motor so I have limited lake travel ability.
  22. Looking to head up there this weekend. How low is the snow? Hemlock Pass? Has anyone been up there lately?
  23. +1 on the permanent shitter! Thanks WCC. On a busy weekend (which is any summer weekend) there is usually a 5.10 crag rising out of the porta shitter that reaches above the seat.
