  1. I wish more stories wouldn't have a comments section.
  2. I saw this when I searched google news for Mt. Shasta. He was planning to go to the top in shorts, a t-shirt, and tennis shoes? Shouldn't you wait until August before you try that? http://www.mtshastanews.com/news/x621497877/Helicopter-rescues-injured-Mt-Shasta-climber Mount Shasta, Calif. — Adding to a tremendously busy couple of weeks on Mt. Shasta, a man from Tacoma, Washington was rescued by helicopter this afternoon after slipping on an ice field and sliding down the mountain. Oleg Maslov, who appears to be in his mid-20’s, was reportedly with several friends who are inexperienced climbers who had no climbing equipment and no helmets, said Susan Gravenkamp, spokesperson for the Siskiyou County Sheriff’s Department. Maslov was wearing shorts and a t-shirt when he slipped in an ice field and slid down the mountain. It is not known at this time how far he may have fallen, Gravenkamp said. At around 11:10 a.m., the Sheriff’s Office received a call from another climbing party who came across Maslov and used his cell phone to call for help. The Redding CHP helicopter H-14 was called in, and at about 2:10 the helicopter crew was able to pick up Maslov in the Lake Helen area at an elevation of about 10,400 feet where the other climbing party was able to take him. ... http://www.ktvl.com/articles/shasta-1195776-mount-inexperienced.html
  3. Have any of you done any climbing before? You should climb Mt. Adams (south side) in early July. If you're in shape, you can do it in a day. Just start early so you're not up there when it's too hot. Ropes, crampons, stoves not necessary. Just bring sandwiches, warm jackets and water filters.
