  1. I think I'm good for partners now. Thanks, guys!
  2. I've been wanting to get on the Kautz route for a long time, and the conditions/weather are looking pretty good for the upcoming weekend. Does anyone want to go up on July 23-24? I would also be open to other weekends. I have lots of alpine experience and have done Rainier before. I am also very solid with crevasse rescue and other technical skills. I'd be excited to climb with anyone else who has similar goals. Shoot me an e-mail if you are interested. -Scott smcamis@gmail.com
  3. I'm planning a trip up Mt. Rainier on July 14-17, and a parter backed out so now I only have a team of 2. I would really like to do the Kautz but might consider other routes. I'm looking for another climber that is solid at crevasse rescue. I have a lot of alpine experience and have been up Rainier before. My other parter is coming from out of state and is more of a trad/sport climber. E-mail me if you are interested. -Scott smcamis@gmail.com
  4. I'm thinking of going up Rainier July 3rd-5th or 11th-12th. Kautz route would be my preference, but DC or Emmons are options as well. Currently we have a team of two, both with previous experience on Rainier. Looking for a 3rd or 4th climber. PM me if interested.
  5. I could be down. Check your PM's.
  6. Have a second climber now. Just need a 3rd. Any takers?
  7. Trying to get up Shuksan while the climbing is still good. I had some partners lined up for this weekend but had some last-minute cancellations sink the trip. Message me if you want to get out. I'd be psyched to do Shuksan, but I also have some climbs in the North Cascades on the list and could be talked into a different climb. I'm available on weekends, and was hoping to get out on the 16th. E-mail is the best way to reach me: smcamis@gmail.com Cheers! -Scott
  8. Looking for weekend alpine partners for Mt. Baker, Shuksan, Eldorado, North Cascades, wherever. I have a reasonable climbing resume including Rainier, Grand Teton, Longs Peak, Mt. Shasta. Climbing training includes courses on crevasse rescue, WFR, AIARE 1, Trad climbing. I am super stoked to get out climbing, but I've been struggling to find consistent partners. PM me if you are interested or e-mail smcamis@gmail.com. I am available every weekend in August. Cheers! -Scott
  9. I just moved out here from Colorado, and I want to get out and climb, but sadly I am lacking climbing partners. I climb 5.10 sport/5.8 trad, but I'll pretty much climb with anyone as long as you can belay and are reasonably cool. Bonus points if you are from the Olympia area. PM me and let's get out there.
  10. I am looking for partners to do some climbing on the upcoming weekends in July. I am primarily interested in climbing glacier, but also willing to do climbs involving some alpine rock as well. I'm free every weekend except for the 31st, and I am keeping all of my weekends open for climbing trips. I have a list of peaks I'd love to pull off, but I'm flexible. Name your peak and we'll do it. I am particularly interested in Mt. Baker, Mt. Shuksan, and Eldorado. Also, a huge goal of mine is to climb Mt. Rainier before I leave for Colorado (in early August). Still, I'd like to do some smaller climbs first to see if we click as climbing partners before attempting a bigger peak. At the very least, I am hoping to find partners proficient in crevasse rescue and avalanche rescue. PM me with your level of experience (be honest... I will be honest with you about my skills). Also let me know what peaks you would be interested in doing. I'm hoping to get out this upcoming weekend. Happy climbing!
  11. I may also be attempting Rainier in late July, likely on the DC route. Keep me posted, and PM me with your climbing experience. Maybe we can put something together. -Scott
  12. You are right, many of the camping permits that can be reserved in advance might be gone already, but a certain percentage of the camping permits (I think about 30%) are made available on a first-come, first-serve basis. On a busy weekend with good weather, permits for Muir will sometimes be gone early in the day or possibly even the day before. If the weather is questionable, then you will probably be able to get a walk-in camping permit without too much trouble. I imagine a campsite like Ingraham flats might be a little easier to get than a spot at Muir, especially considering the fact that the conditions on Rainier haven't been that great recently. What I would do if I were you is try to go to Rainier on Friday to get a permit (you have to be there in person to get a walk-in permit). If you can't do that, then plan on showing up extremely early and be at the doors to the ranger station when they open in the morning on Saturday. You might also call the ranger station a few days in advance to check on permit availabilities. They should be able to give you an idea of how early you will need to show up to get a walk-in permit. Also, to answer your second question, the rangers will issue you a climbing permit even if you do not have a campsite. Realize that this means that you won't have anywhere to sleep, so you will have to do Rainier in one continuous push. Good luck!
