  1. The year 2000 when I was going to use the tent I was dx with multiple myeloma cancer. My past & present cancer treatments have eliminated any future expedition climbing for me and a need for the tent. Made up my mind I must see that the tent needs a “home" where the tent can be used.

    >>>>Tent and was used ONCE, is in new condition and was stored in a dry environment.<<<<

    Overview

The Mountain Hardwear EV2 is loaded with high tech materials and design: strong Atlas Scandium SL pole set with new floating connectors, low-stretch VX-O2 panels follow pole lines and reinforce side panel tie outs. The idea is that together they create a strong truss-like system to support the tent in high winds and heavy snow loads. The main canopy is a waterproof/breathable, fire-retardant (nice!), pre-stretched polyester.

The EV2 may be the lightest two-person, three-pole mountaineering/expedition tent on the market. Many new high tech (and expensive) materials contribute to weight savings. The EV2, even with its few flaws, is our first choice for a fast and light ascent tent. The Atlas Scandium SL poles and low-stretch reinforcing panels on the canopy create a surprisingly solid structure for the weight. Five vents and the waterproof/breathable, fire retardant canopy fabric do a credible job of managing condensation. The EV2 is one of the easiest tents we've pitched, mountain or otherwise. With the built-in vestibule, we found the tent had more than enough room for us and our gear to comfortably wait out a day long Patagonian storm of high winds with horizontal rain, sleet, and snow.

    In Brief

    • Just over 5 lbs with vestibule - possibly the lightest tent in its class

    • Roomy for a two-person mountaineering tent with good area to weight ratio

    • Easy and extremely fast to pitch with exoskeleton poles and clip attachments

    • Strong, light Atlas Scandium SL poles with field serviceable floating connectors

    • High tech fabric/design: low stretch structural panels follow pole/stress lines. Fire retardant waterproof/breathable canopy fabric of pre-stretched polyester (meets fire resistant code for tents!)

    • Five vents and waterproof/breathable canopy fabric provide good condensation resistance for a single walled tent

    • We were unable to get a completely taut canopy pitch

    • Less resistant to heavy snow loads than heavier four-pole mountaineering tents (especially true with the older Easton pole set)

I am including the Mountain Hardware EV-2 foot print as an EXTRA.

    Hip Belt Size 30” – 34”

Weight with Top Lid & Front Pocket Removed 5.3 lbs

Condition of the Amelia Pack Excellent

The Amelia is the women's version of the men’s Silhouette (pre 2000 model) with the same feature set, but designed specifically for a woman's (usually) shorter torso. Amelia's fit is highly customizable as explained below.

    Osprey_Amelia.JPG

Pack features include ice axe loops at the top of the sleeping bag compartment, removable (i.e. with a buckle) straps along the base of the pack for attaching a sleeping pad, tripod, or tent, and a Top Lid/pocket, which converts to a fanny pack. The Top Lid also provides a separate zipper pocket underneath the lid for a hydration bladder and weighs 1.0 lbs.

    Osprey_Amelia_2_.JPG

Inside the sleeping bag compartment is a sewn-in stuff sack which Osprey claims makes it easier to load your sleeping bag and adds an extra moisture barrier to keep the bag dry.

    Osprey_Amelia_3_.JPG

The Amelia Compression system consists of an interchangeable series of panels, pockets, and accessories which buckle to the front (away from the body) of the pack via the compression straps that are removable. This pack has a Front zipper pocket with daisy chain loops that are currently with the pack. The pocket can be remove easily and weights .84lbs.

    Osprey_Amelia_5_.JPG

Suspension components include a wide, padded, removable hip belt, aluminum stays with an additional delrin rod for torsional flexibility, and a harness system which connects all the pieces together. This pack is a Women’s MEDIUM shoulder Strap/Harnesses System and MEDIUM Hipbelt.

    Osprey_Amelia_4_.JPG

This was my wife’s pack whose dimensions are: Height of 5”–2”, Hip Measurement of 37” and Torso Length of 15.5”. The Amelia is in EXCELLENT condition and has been stored in a dry closet.

I am including an Osprey pack cover that is designed for the Amelia FREE as an extra.

  3. DANA ARCFLEX - TERRAPLANE (M pack, L belt)

(My Torso Length 19.5 inches, My Waist Size 37.5 inches)

    CAPACITY (cu. in.)/ (liter) 5800/95

    WEIGHT (oz)/ WEIGHT (lb) 108.8/6.8

    Pack Cover included

    Pack is in new condition

    Main features

•Carbon fiber stays to add stability, shift weight to your hips, and act as springs to absorb the vertical inertia of the pack. You can really feel the spring action when you walk.

•Rigid plastic frame sheet which prevents hard things from poking your back and, along with a single aluminum stay, helps contour the pack to your back. A cut out at the top of the sheet provides "HeadSpace", allowing you to tilt your head back a little further than some other packs.

•Stiff hip belt with ample padding, secured with hook-and-loop (e.g., Velcro), allowing fine adjustment of torso length and removal for use of top as a fanny pack. This was the stiffest hip belt in the store after the Gregory hip belts (which are made of carbon fiber).

    ArcFlex_Terraplane_2_.JPG

•Contoured shoulder straps with ample adjustments. You have to adjust these correctly, and especially get the lengths right on the straps (you may have to take off the pack to check this) or one shoulder strap will press more than the other and the pack will lean over to one side and in general you'll lower the efficiency of the suspension system. But once you get the straps adjusted they're very comfortable.

•The Pack Cover matches pack size for a weather proof system.

•Lumbar pad and porous foam back pad (most packs in this price range have these features).

•Retractable bottom, which allows you to eliminate the sleeping bag compartment when carrying smaller loads, thus shifting the weight higher up and improving balance.

•Comes in 5 frame sizes, each appropriate for different torso sizes, and 5 hip belts, each appropriate for different hip sizes (I got a medium pack and large belt).

•Two external zippered pockets, which, being on the back of the pack instead of its sides, do not affect the pack's narrow profile and thus would not interfere with a cross-country skiing hand motion.

    ArcFlex_Terraplane.JPG

•Numerous straps and attachment points for skis, jackets, ice ax, gizmos, whatever. 2 open side "pockets" (really only about 2 inches deep) for keeping tent poles and similar items attached to the pack. Includes 2 sewn on straps for attaching a sleeping pad, which might even double as closures for the sleeping bag compartment should the compartment's hefty zipper fail.

  12. *New*, never use Feathered Friends, Rock & Ice Parka GORTEX(large) AND -40 Pants PTFE (large) that I purchase in 1998 & 1999 that I was planning to use when I climb Cho Oyu. Shortly after I retired in 2000 and had this trip in the making I was dx with multiple myeloma cancer (non curable), stage 3+.....not good. The treatment that followed (two stem cell transplants at the University of Michigan) took all the opportunities to climb out of the picture do to the effects on my bone marrow. Today I looked in my closet and saw these two beautiful pieces of equipment hanging and made up my mind I must see that they have a "home" where they can be used.
