What about failing? Beached whale is an important part of the climber's repertoire, just like the knee-up or belly-crawl along a ledge. I disagree. I thought the belly-crawl was the beached whale. Clearly you guys have more experience in these techniques than I do. Unfortunately...yes. But if you climb Wonderland in Squamish, you'll know what I mean about the belly crawl. Kind of like the army crawl, but with more exposure.

Cascade Pass- Sahale Arm. It's about 11 miles round-trip with between 4,000 and 5,000 feet of elevation gain. Also, it's in the most beautiful place in Washington, the North Cascades.

You'll be shitting yourself till you're 80, and then it's okay.

I "climbed" Free Range Chook and Eso No Se Hace today- they are clean and worth a trip, especially if you are up near the Upper Walls anyway.

Yeah, I gardened all along the length of Fenderfour's trail and added quite a bit more to it, all the way to a very large roof. It's worth checking out if you're up there.

I completed my Eagle Scout project today. I improved the old Shady Lane trail at Index (down and left of Davis-Holland) and built it a good bit more forward, all the way to the large roof. A crude path is also marked with pink flagging tape to connect to the descent trail, and a few hours of hard work would connect the two and improve access further. I'm hoping this trail will allow more people to climb and develop Shady Lane- Free Range Chook and Eso no se Hace look pretty clean right now. -Mark
