  1. On the Palestinian side of the West Bank separation wall. http://nicolemrodrigues.posterous.com/the-israelianpalestinian-wall-graffiti
  2. I was up July 22/23 and would totally have solo'd it then, after seeing conditions. Glaciers were in great shape, you'd hardly know it there was more than just big snowfields up there. Never put on crampons. Summit ridge was in great shape too. I went with a partner and we did rope up for a bit but it was really just a big snow hike with a fun finish. That was a week and a half ago of course.
  3. Here is a simple to-the-point email if anyone wants something to cut-and-paste or take this and edit it. I just sent a much longer, detailed version of this to all the bill's sponsors: to: liias.marko@leg.wa.gov; roberts.maryhelen@leg.wa.gov; moeller.jim@leg.wa.gov; simpson.geoff@leg.wa.gov; mccoy.john@leg.wa.gov; jacks.jim@leg.wa.gov; williams.brendan@leg.wa.gov; goodman.roger@leg.wa.gov; appleton.sherry@leg.wa.gov subject: Opposed to HB 2619 body: Dear Reps. Liias, Roberts, Moeller, Simpson, McCoy, Jacks, Williams, Goodman, and Appleton I am a member of the Washington hiking and climbing community, and am opposed to HB 2619, An Act Relating to electronic signaling devices. I believe that this legislation should not be passed and I urge you to withdraw it. I am opposed to this legislation because: 1. Mountain search and rescue groups and others with firsthand knowledge agree that mandatory use of electronic signaling devices may actually increase hazards to both climbers and rescue teams. and 2. The proposed legislation seems a significant infringement on my personal liberty, the weight of which does not appear to be counterbalanced by an attendant increase in the public welfare. I know that you have heard from other community members expressing these views in more detail, thank you for your reconsideration of this legislation.
  4. Vegas.com the day before you want to book. Can usually get rooms in decent hotels for 20 bucks or even less.
  5. Looking for 3-day alpine climbing trip Aug 28-30 (Fri-Sun). I can follow only to 5.7/5.8 or so but am super-fit and fast. What I've done recently (looking for similar climbs): Rainier - Fuhrer Finger (II) Goode Mountain - NE Buttress (III, 5.6/5.7, carryover) S. Early Winters Spire - SE Buttress (III, 5.8) A few on my list (but happy to entertain other ideas): Challenger/Whatcom Luna/Fury Stuart W. Ridge Forbidden W. Ridge Johannesberg NE Buttress I get into Seattle Thursday night and have to be back Monday morning, and would like to spend the whole time climbing if possible, so if you have any 3-day trips on your list... -Brian brian (at[ bb25 &dot% com
  6. I was up a few weeks ago on a weekday. The gate at Middle Fork was open when we went up, but we parked outside it. Good thing too because it was locked on our way out and we would have been locked in. Watch out for fast-moving gravel trucks on the road up too - I had to suddenly drive off the road to avoid one. Summitpost has a bunch of info about the roads changing and whatnot, but we just followed Beckey's directions and had no problems.
  7. Update: Have partners for all dates now. Thanks everyone! Looking forward to more climbing.
  8. Update: Monday and probably Tuesday am climbing in Leavenworth. Still looking for Wed/Thurs. Also looking for June 28-30 (Sun-Tues).
  9. Need partner for 6-22 to 6-25 for alpine rock and/or snow/moderate ice climbs in N. Cascades. Could start Sunday night too. Don't lead trad yet but follow to 5.8/5.9 (have gear though). Glacier travel/crevasse rescue training and some experience. Strong and motivated partner for more experienced leaders, or competent leader on easier climbs. In last couple of weeks led Fuhrer Finger on Rainier and followed SW Rib on S Early Winters Spire (5.8), among many other climbs. Happy to hook up for a few days of climbs at Leavenworth/WA Pass or a longer trip to last the whole week. A few ideas, but open to other suggestions: Stuart - any of several routes Forbidden - West Ridge, North Ridge or East Ridge Direct Buckner N Face Eldorado W Arete or E Ridge Mt.
