  1. I did like wimpy anarchy guy trying to break the window with the traffic sign and totally failing. If you're going to be a rioter you should at least be good at breaking windows. Maybe at subsequent riots he could be the sign making guy or something and let the others do the window breaking. And I definitely don't understand vandalizing the Komo 4 news car. Were they like, "Take that Steve Pool!"
  2. Yeah. Restless youth inciting pointless violence and mayhem is an awesome tradition.
  3. Not sure if it was an episode of Portlandia or the local news this evening as the fake superheroes were getting into a fight with the protesters. Too funny. I'm watching with rapt attention as the disgruntled white suburbanites are getting ready to rally!
  4. Nice job enduring a cold unplanned bivy but it would have been a better job not having one in the first place.
  5. Tickets as a revenue source does make one wonder why municipalities need to make money that way. Do they not have enough revenue from other sources? Are they just greedy?
  6. It's a great idea since freeze dried food is so expensive and limited. This would be great for anyone doing a long trip. Good luck!
  7. How about J Tree where there are 5.10 routes with a 5.11 move
  8. Depends on the person setting the route, the ethics of the particular area, and the era.
  9. I wonder what percentage of Bob's posts allude to goat fucking?
  10. If you can swing it, go to Yurp though. Exchange rate is great right now.
  11. I've heard really good things about Tensleep in Wyoming but haven't climbed there myself. Hard to beat the variety and quality of the Tahoe / Truckee area like Donner and Lovers Leep. But obviously more people and camping not as chil.
  12. Nice work getting up there in sub-optimal (low snow) conditions. Looks like a stellar day though. For consistency sake, mod's may want to move this TR to Alpine Lakes forum.
  13. That definitely belongs in the "You know your a Canadian if..." category.
  14. Those are fair points. I think dog owners should put their dog on a leash if someone asks them to even if the dog is being friendly. That said, and no offense to your family, people don't have a duty to proactively change their actions to guard against others irrational fears. Would it be your fault if your blue car scared a pedestrian who has an irrational fear of blue cars? It is not unreasonable that one would expect to encounter someone's companion dog out in public. Dogs have been co-habitating with humans for thousands of years. Pythons, on the other hand, not so much.
  15. Totally agree with you and the OP's main point. As usual, it's a couple irresponsible assholes who ruin it for everyone else.
  16. Other people, children, and dogs are some things one may encounter if they venture out into a public area. If you're not ok with this I suggest taking up residency in your mom's basement and joining a competitive video game league. I hear they are the big thing right now.
  17. This is clearly a common sense thing. Obviously not all crags are appropriate for dogs. If I bring my dog I usually don't need to leash her but if she is bothering anyone or wandering I will. I keep a close eye on her and try to be very respectful. A 100 per cent of the time leash law would not only be unnecessary but would be impossible to enforce. I've been cragging for about 20 years now, some as a dog owner and some not, and only remember a couple times where dogs have been a problem. I think it was dogs, who were leashed, barking or growling at people. In my experience, most people enjoy encountering my dog at the crag. Last time at Index she entertained a curious toddler for hours and was much appreciated by his parents. I understand dogs can be a nuisance to some but for those of you complaining here because a friendly dog came up to you to say hi, you are acting like a whiny little bitch.
  18. actually they do need to be leashed. Also, the dog could have knocked rocks down on climbers below. And there are other safety issues. What if your "friendly" ( they are always friendly) attacks a belayer or destracts one by going for a free lunch or a pee on the rope/gear/pack. The possibilities for bad outcomes are numerous, and with the crowds there, the number of permutations of conflict interactions Yes the AAC's Accidents in North American Mountaineering is rife with accounts of fatalities caused by dogs at the crag. The real danger lies in having your dog belay you though. They are very easily distracted.
  19. actually they do need to be leashed. Neat. If you get a dog you can leash it. Your opinion is really great but there are no leash laws at any crag I've been to nearby except for Smith. I totally agree that aggressive dogs should be leashed. As should food-marauding dogs. Though, you have to admit the "victim" bears some co-responsibility by leaving food out in the open, and at least the dog didn't drink your beer.
  20. No we just need some mandatory personal responsibility. Not every climber has a dog that needs to be leashed.
  21. I think there's more potential for new ski lines. Probably mostly variations of other routes but may not have been done because they make more sense to ski then just to climb.
  22. Yeah I've found with these projects about 90% of success is having the right tools.
  23. Why not just cut the posts out and leave the concrete? Ain't going to hurt anything.
