  1. Confirmed yesterday. Chimneys are melted out, glaciers are in great shape. Major obstacle was getting through the valley with dry-ish feet. Yesterday's temps were 80+ in the valley, with plenty of snow to melt, and visible changes over the course of 12 hrs. Enjoy
  2. Wondering if the chimneys are melted out already, as there haven't been any TR's for the route this year.

  4. Hey ptown it was great to be up there with you. My buddy and I were the car-to-car guys right behind you up the glacier - the ones who took the wrong turn low, and climbed through the upper crevasses. Without that wrong turn, I think we would have had time to mess about on the ridge. I gotta give your crew props for your support of the fallen climber. It was pretty bad to watch the fall from above, I can't imagine the view from below. I was surprised that he cleared the schrund, and amazed that he got off with so little damage. Did he end up walking out on his own? Any followup? He seemed generally capable, but things happen - a good reason to be running belays on that upper section of the glacier. Hope to run into you again. Which of the 4 were you?
  5. Thanks for the TR, Ian! It was a good time. Apparently SP says that the 'normal route is Class 2', haha. NWdriver, Deer Creek Road (intersects Hwy 20 just west of Tombstone Pass) was heavily snowed over near the Hwy. Use the US126 drive via Eugene, and the road was clear all the way to the crag. No snow encountered around the base or at the summit. We really need somebody like Tyler to update the Summitpost description. There's lots of good solid climbing at Wolf Rock, but never many climbers there. I've never heard of the falcon restriction. Then again, perhaps the SP page discourages people from going to the point that we can keep it to ourselves and the rock is still mostly unregulated...
  6. sdizzle, it was nice to run into you up there. glad we went Wednesday morning instead of waiting for the weekend disaster zone. oh, and the walk down SUCKED. skis/board were a great idea
  7. My wife and I are going on a trip to Southern Chile for her Ph.D. research (ecological recovery at Chaiten volcano - erupted in 2008), and we will be taking a week or 10 days for fun afterwards. She is a kayaker (I am not) but she isn't much of a mountaineer or a strong rock-climber (protected 5.8 and below). So we are gonna raft a couple rivers (Futaleufu area) and hoping to go on an easier glacier climb or alpine rock-climb during that period too. First trip to Chile for both of us, I am strong in Spanish and not too worried about figuring out our way around, but I have no knowledge of climbs down there. Any good ideas of resources for me to look at? Really the best thing would be to take her up one of the glaciated volcanoes that doesnt have mandatory guides (Michinmahuida or other). But I'm tempted, cuz Chaiten is over halfway to Patagonia proper... only a 6-8 hr ferry ride and a few hours of bus... Then there are the real mountains. Dying to hear from climbers/travelers with experience in Southern Chile.
  8. Post for two friends. Please contact me if you stumble across the goods, or have already. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Vipers found and handed in to Redpoint. Thanks to the great community at Smith and to Eric of Redpoint! Red Feather Snowshoes: My friend left a pair of Red Feather snowshoes on the North Ridge of Mount Washington on Sunday May 2nd. They most likely escaped somewhere between the first and third gendarme, although we are not exactly sure when or how they disappeared. These are pretty basic older snowshoes with round aluminum tubing used for the frame and bent into an oval shape with rubberized canvas stretched in between, similar to the Explore model.
  9. Glad my contribution to the collective climber-brain was put to good use... [driving up to Leavin(Oregon)worth last wk I caught a pre-dawn glimpse of Hood and thought to myself "time for some Wy'East"] I will be following your bootpath/wagon-trail tomorrow night
  10. interested in the set of cascade alpine guides... where are you located?
  11. Does price include shipping?
  12. Did this ever sell? And what's the condition anyways?
