  2. Any of you out there? I am kicking around the idea of applying for a district engineering detail in Burns Oregon. This makes sense from a career standpoint…. However, quality of life is as or more important to me than my career. Seems like Burns is pretty much in B.F.E. So I’m wondering what the heck is out there worth climbing? Far as I can tell besides the Steins, which appears to have little climbing opportunities, the Bend area is the closest thing with any climbing (2.5 hours away). Anyone want to pipe in with some info?

I would also recommend the Mowich approach….. even if the road is closed at the park entrance it’s only a handful of miles up to the lake and actually makes for a pleasant warm up You can cut quite a bit of distance off the road to Mowich by jumping on the trails that cut the large switch backs in the road. These trails are shown on the map and are marked with reflectors.
