  1. That was a good day. Hard to believe its 6 months before we can climb there again. Insanity really, hope they open some of Beacon, it just doesn't make sense to shut down all the climbing. Here's Ivan getting her done in the raging torrent..
  2. I'm ready to rock when you are Ivanho, as the last of the sand slides thru the hourglass, its kind of a pisser.
  3. So you learned the first lesson, snowshoes are not real practical nor fun. Better skis or just booting it. Take the Seattle Mountaineers basic climbing course and you'll be stoked.
  4. Why would you take the dishes out? That's seems kind of ....inefficient. Pink, you obviously haven't climbed with Ivan lately.
  5. She appears to have a dead animal carcass on her head. Very Skagy.
  6. Great idea to fix a line down the Dutchman Bill. I replaced the short fixed line next to the anchor two years ago. I would recommend backing up the pin and bolt at either end of the short fixed line as they look historic, or maybe the answer for now might be to run an additional line from tree at Grassy Ledges that goes to the anchor if its going to see much traffic and until the trail is re-opened? I have extra static line if needed.
  7. Good job Bill! It was you, in a big way, that contributed to this reopening by working with a good guy like Randy Kline in a positive fashion. So hold your chin high, suck in that gut, and stand proud! Wanted to mention also that rapping the Flying Dutchman with a 70m is also a single rope rap. It's 2 raps to the ground from Grassy ledges, or one rap with two 70's. So all kinds of options for getting down as I see it. Also, isn't that photo above with the boulder over the west face, and not the south?? I could be mistaken on that however. Looking forward to seeing all you yahoos out there on Saturday, should be some good trundling!
  8. Why not start our own SAR group out of local Beacon climbers?
  9. Sounds good. Get the Phuzzy and Powderhourd and Geoff again, and lets do it. This time maybe wear a lycra bodysuit for the ssqueeze section and you'll shoot thru, ha!
  10. Rocking good times! and hey Geoff, I see it, the roof, the similarity in your two photos there. Karmic. Whos in for the traverse of Deadhorse Cave?
  11. Adam, I think there shouldn't be to much water, as no snow melt yet. But haven't been there lately to know for shore. Come on out with Ivan! Denali Dave, take the day off or call in sick or something. Wednesdaythe day! You got to do this.
  12. Bill, I have no concerns with you on the job, @ Beacon Rock climbing committee. You should go with us through Deadhorse Cave. Ivan and Powderhound, Wednesday sounds good.
  13. Hey ya Ivan and other Beacon rascals, Due to the rain putting a damper on things lately, I would be willing to take a crew through the Deadhorse Cave again, if you Portlanders can make it out to Hood River. Anybody game for it? yes, its a little freaky, but what an experience! Perfect timing before the snow flies.. and Joe, I don't buy its part of the rock climbers responsibility to "manage" the rockfall for the railroad. If the railroad were to ask us to do it, then we should become involved. However, your suggestion seems like trying to cause problems where there are none. And of course some people are famous for that, with their silent agendas hidden from view.
  14. Trundle that pillar and it'll go all the way to the river I would imagine. I will take the Seagull crack to the left every time instead of touching that block, even though Im sure its superglued in.
  15. That things way to big to trundle. It could set off some ground fault and make California fall into the sea.
  16. Topher, next time you climb that wide crack 2nd pitch on Right Gull instead of the hand crack to the left, look at the detached block you are climbing on. It will probably hold for long time still, but taking a fall on gear in that crack may be just the recipe for making it go. I am wary of it. Crazy Horse I did long ago with Rock H., and he exited the gear belay ledge going right and then up. Its all overgrown with lichen and doesn't look good now. I am always up for getting out. Let me know! Kevbone, two words, RIP CITY!!! Has Arent gotten over his poison oak?
  17. Since Wrong Gull fell off, nobody climbs below the pillar really. I would say leave the bolts then, and put up some routes that go up thru the new terrain there. First ascent waiting for ya Kevbone!
