  1. The Sherpas did have their say.

    They issued a formal apology.

Still full of shit, good to see things never change

    1. On April 27 2013, above Everest Base Camp, at Camp 2 and Camp 3 an agreement arose between foreign climbers and Nepali climbers and the situation was discussed today at this meeting. Both parties have realized their errors and apologized to each other in front of those present. Furthermore, both parties agreed to help each other in the future to make successful each others goals. It has also been decided that this issue will not be raised again.

  2. The screwin canisters are pretty easy to find in france (nor really most any popular mountain destination in the world) and flying with a stove in checked bag isn't a problem at all so whatever the screwin stove of your persuasion is. On the small/light/cheap front a Pocket Rocket or a Snowpeak Gigapower

As an accomplished mountaineer who has scaled many of the world’s highest peaks, including Mount Everest, Annabelle Bond has found herself in some dicey situations.

Now she finds herself in a very different sort of predicament — a nasty legal fight between a former lover and her current one.

Her boyfriend, Andrew Cader, a former Goldman Sachs executive and part owner of the Tampa Bay Rays baseball franchise, is accused of conspiring with Ms. Bond to hide her true financial condition so that she could secure more than $50,000 a month in child support payments last December from the Wall Street financier Warren G. Lichtenstein, who has a 5-year-old daughter with the British socialite.

Document: Hedge Fund Tycoon's Child Support Suit

Ms. Bond deviously obtained the outsize child support from a Hong Kong court to “improve upon her already extraordinary life of luxury, privilege and modest fame,” contends the lawsuit, which was filed by Mr. Lichtenstein in Federal District Court in Manhattan.

That Ms. Bond lives an extraordinary life of luxury and privilege is not in dispute. The daughter of Sir John R. H. Bond, the former chairman of the global banking giant HSBC, Ms. Bond, 43, has traveled the world as a mountain climber and extreme athlete. (The lawsuit derisively calls her a “self-described ‘activist and adventurer.’ ”) Her family has homes in London, Hong Kong, Florida and Aspen, Colo.

Even the most successful authors have to suffer the occasional fit of spite from critics and readers. Few, however, have to contend with the twin indignities of being branded a "crevasse wanker" and having their accounts of preternatural mountain endurance rubbished by sulky teens.

Fortunately, as befits a man who has outshuffled the Grim Reaper in both the Andes and the Himalayas – and who chose an automated alcohol dispenser as his luxury on Desert Island Discs so that he could drink himself to death rather than endure a protracted insular exile – Joe Simpson is not the sort to sulk.

Best though is from his twitter:

Ha ha :) RT @oliverburkeman: But let's just admit now that "Crevasse Wanker" would indeed have been a better title for @TouchingTheVoiD

  5. Especially if they figure out local search and local mobile ads, which is definitely the next big frontier for search in general.

That's a mighty big "if" just like the data mining "if" which is a fair bit off I think. The bigger conversion issue is going between Facebook content and business content. Example: an Irish packaging company found their facebook participation didn't return shit compared to Google - which makes sense because you Google shit to research it. Facebooks ads aren't relative without some deep knowledge of the Social Graph and then how do you market it?

They won't immediately go away but for them to be an advertising superpower they have to have a more subtle understanding of the customer than Google and be able to succesfully market it which takes some big thinking.

Myspace had 1/4 the users. Why isn't that valid? Shit, I wish I had those hotsluts friending me.

  6. Wecome to the US!

The only border crossings in the world I've been accosted, detained and aggressively searched by asshats are 1) China 2) Canada. If I didn't know better I'd think the Canadian cunts were looking for bribes.

Favorite bit was when, while going through my wallet and looking at the ATM card and Credit Cards the asshat asked me why I only had $5 in cash when coming to Canada. I didn't say out loud "you have ATMs in this 3rd world shithole, don't you?"

  7. I haven't been following it, but quite frankly with the little I've read minx, they should be pissed. The UW in 1995 was a little under $1000/quarter. I believe it is now over $3500. How much have wages gone up? I think college grads are probably making less now, if they can find a job, then they could in 1999, but are being saddled with 3x as much debt, if not more. Europe obviously isn't being a model society at the moment, but unless I'm mistaken university is free there meaning anyone can attend if they are willing to work hard enough.

Grad school slave labor isn't free.... oh, wait, it is. Nevermind. The palaces for research professors that rarely teach don't come teach. Same for the advisors and everyone else.

  8. Go to the stripclubs. Best titties in Canada

like saying you got the biggest cock in china though? :)

err, no, montreal had some serious talent last time I rolled through.

pm porter regarding the cock size in china

  9. I wonder why so many liberals think Canada is so cool and enlightened? I guess they're just retarded. Or ignorant. Or both?

Why do so many Canadians think Canada is liberal and enlightened?

Shit, why do Canadians still make jokes about how bad American beer is?

  10. But seriously, what happened around here? I need a recap!

    I quit giving a shit.

    You were trying? That's scary.

The interwebz (or at least fora) are dead KK... now it's "social" media and self promoting spammers

  11. Perhaps partly because the internet is a relatively shitty way to communicate complex experiences? It best rewards simplistic narratives that can be beaten over and over and over and over. Even those extremely skilled in written communication can, and will, be raked over the coals either through miscontruction or assholity.

  12. Regardless of the issues, I'd like to see the schools continue and expand. It's cheap, effective and powerful juju.

I can't disregard someone having to pay back $1 million to a charity they are still a part of when I consider a charitable donation.

  13. Woah. You in the 'stan? stay safe and all that; try and head up to Kyrgyz or Uzbekistan if you get a chance - fucking awesome countries, hot chicks, high peaks, cheap booze, meat on a stick.

  14. Anyway,it's about time someone stepped up and got those bullshit 3rd world money wasting schools shut down.

There's a wonderful charity I learned about on Cascadeclimbers.com long ago called Room To Read www.roomtoread.org that's done a much better job helping 3rd worlders, but a much shittier job promoting their head.

Three Cups of Tea" author Greg Mortenson will remain the face of the charity he co-founded, despite his having to repay $1 million after an investigative report released Thursday concluded he mismanaged the organization and misspent its money.

Isn't an organization I have any desire to donate money to.

  15. Yea, yea, theres SS/Medicare but that was not caluclated in Mitt's returns either. So as ususal Americans are about their high taxes. Not!

Remember both SS and Medicare are caped and Mitt doesn't have any payroll taxes so - usual disingenuity from the Anti-Tax dipshits aside - many more people pay more in taxes than Mitt. I've certainly paid more as a % some years.
