  1. Sure...Reductionism. Closely related is a variety of Monism where the elemental forces or the Universe itself is equated with God. Whereas the Christian in contrast, if I understand correctly, believes God to be Transcendent.
  2. What's it mean to be a scientist? Are you just talking about science as an orthodoxy, as an established authority structure? Wouldn't you rather being saying that to be a scientist requires one to push beyond the confines of the known... or are you afraid of losing your funding? How do pioneers go beyond the currently accepted ideas? It's confirmed: Matter is merely vacuum fluctuations e=mc2: 103 years later, Einstein's proven right Out Of Pure Light, Physicists Create Particles Of Matter Proving that seemingly disparate concepts or conceptual approaches are not mutually exclusive. Or perhaps there is room for more synthesis.
  3. We're not Argentina but watch this: [video:youtube]rH6_i8zuffs My take is that we need real accountability and transparency in gov't and in business. Sure that's a broad statement but the crisis might have been prevented if we had those in place. Now strikes. Check out how they do strikes in South America. Our truckers have already discussed this option in response to rising fuel prices several months prior. Guess that since prices are decreasing in a deflationary spiral then a strike is not imminent.
  4. Oh, I thought his job was to transform the country in the next phase of development...in response to a false flag operation masquerading as a biological attack. Get it??
  5. Right. And with all due respect you are generalizing from the specific. I think if you look at other cases the deterrent effect is noticable. My guess is that with South Africa there's something else that skews the results, for example, during apartheid the gun owners were primarily the white ruling class and their supporters. So yeah, if you dissect it then other underlying social causes could account for the specific case where the deterrent effect appears to be overruled.
  6. A firearm would have to have ammunition to complete its function. Seems that restricting, banning, or confiscating ammo would interfere with the 2nd amendment right to bear arms. Also see this reference in regards to confiscation of guns during emergencies such as Hurricane Katrina. This action demonstrates that the gun lobby is prepared to counteract threats to the 2nd amendment.

    Fucked up...

Here's a different take on the situation from that presented in our news sources: Signs Of An Attempted Coup In New Delhi--Pakistan Daily (biased source??) Seems to be common thread, a connection between elements in the intelligence services, military, and the purported terrorists. Basically what may be happening is a struggle between a right-wing ideologues against the current Indian government. Or maybe, everything is just as it appears. This is also an interesting comment from an Indian writer and activist: [video:youtube]Z2Ok6apsHlg Suzanna Arundhati Roy
  9. Brazil. Captured some aspects of the current zeitgeist? So, how many times has Paulson changed the plan? Five?
  10. As a society Easter Islanders collapsed because of wrecking their environment. Ex post facto changing your goal post to humankind doesn't change the painful reality that societys can, and do, fuck up. Poor choice of words on my part - I meant the sum of all societies - e.g. mankind - because societies tend to exchange things with one another (in addition to innovating, conserving, and substituting when things get scarce), and the initial premise that that we've entered an age in which an absolute scarcity of natural resources is upon us. Absolute as in world-wide - across all societies. Once you confine the discussion to the reality that we actually inhabit, and exclude groups of people who can't trade with one another (stone age jungle tribes, etc), absolute scarcity ceases to explain very much about which societies fucked-up in catastrophic fashions up and why. Take all of the starvation deaths that have occurred in the past 150 years, plot them on a map, and look at the political/economic systems in place when the famines hit. That'll be far more relevant and informative than pretending that the stone-age ended for lack of stones. Can you consider time to be a resource? Are we going to follow Daedalis or Icarus? Will our own ingenuity serve as our end? When the rate of change toward disequilibrium e.g., in accumulation of waste products, overcomes the rate of change towards equilibrium (stability) then will we have run out of time, despite our immense abilities? Are we witnessing this now?

    Bailout is a Limp D***

Hahaha, occultist Christopher Hyatt made the cognizant observation that we are all primates operating primarily on a mammalian level of emotion, that we fancy ourselves as beyond the lower primates though our thought processes are dominated by our frontal lobes. Some primates are just more aware and capable than others. What good is art? Even elephants can be trained to be painters. And apes? Ape artists orangutans and bonobos make art for charity Great Ape Trust orangutans and bonobos pick up brushes again for conservation aid Terence Mckenna was one hellva primate and could perhaps be classified as an artist. His "art" could be considered to be transformational, alchemical if you will. [video:youtube]9c8an2XZ3MU

    Auto Industry Bailout

The last US auto bailout (1.5 billion, >4 billion in today's dollars) worked for almost 30 years... Yeah, but that was for one company, not all of them, and it had a leader that at least had a vision rather than merely desperation in their eyes. Auto Industry Bailout

One of the main tenets of globalism is that production goes where labor costs are low and typically that's the emerging economies in places like Latin America, Asia, and Eastern Europe. These economies in turn will evolve with labor costs and associated inflation also increasing. The perfection of robots (look for that to most likely come from Japan or here in conjunction with DARPA) will solve this problem but it is not foreseeable when this will occur. That is one solution to the population question and the labor dilemma. Hasta la vista Packs of robots will hunt down uncooperative humans

No, no, no. You got it all wrong. Nancy was into astrologers. Hillary was the one into seances with Eleanor Roosevelt (Jean Huston style).

    You missed a bullet

Ok, F it. Here's the craziest tinhat conspiracy: The ensuing turmoil yet to come will result in a massive world depopulation that is required for the transition to a new system of economic sustainablility. Good day.
  22. 8D Ha, we all know it was Bush's fault. He promoted an ownership society and didn't try to rein things in at Freddie/Fannie once the warning flags went up. Frankly, I don't give a shit if it was Bush, Clinton, Greenspan, or El Diablo .

    Auto Industry Bailout

Back in the 60's there was a saying: "As GM goes, so goes the nation." As GM Goes So Goes the Nation Google "as gm goes..." for more articles w/ the same title. BTW, GM is also one of the top five companies included in credit default swaps (along with Ford). And currently, they are having a problem obtaining financing through the bond market ( GM, Ford, Chrysler Face Closed Market for Auto Bonds--Bloomberg ). The government has signaled that it will not assist GM but we'll have to wait and see. GM and/or Chrysler will have to obtain gov't funds to raise enough cash to merger.

    Positives of Bush

You gotta admit Bushisms lent some comic relief all while the world was seemingly crumbling down. [video:youtube]8Ux3DKxxFoM Obama seems too sober to offer the same possibilities. Biden might have to take his place in the antics.
