  1. Planning to spend a few days this summer in the Goat Rocks wilderness. Only thing on the agenda for sure is to summit Mt. Gilbert. I'd appreciate any beta from others that have spent time there. What trailhead and routes, best time of year, how many days needed, and any other must-do's while I'm there. Thanks.
  2. My wife would really like one of these. A current one, not one of the irregular ones with the non-working armpit zips.
  3. Hi, Does anyone have 2' snow pickets lying around they don't use anymore. I'd like to get a couple that aren't too beat up.
  4. Did it a couple of years ago in May. The road was open to the trailhead. Wish we would've had snowshoes. On the way down, we were postholing up near our knees. It was pretty sloppy. Good luck.
  5. Probably a weekend with a good weather window. Late Feb, or sometime in March.
  6. Wow...wish I could go. It's something I want to do in a couple of years, but don't think I'd be ready that soon. Good luck.
  7. What skillz have you got? Rainier not the type of mountain to be climbing without some good practice on other peaks, esp. in the winter. I always love a good trip up Rainier. But would want to climb something else first so that we see each other's skill level. I've been thinking of a climb up Mt. Hood via Leuthold's Couloir some weekend. Would you be down for that?
  8. I'd be down with that. Good idea.
  9. A friend and myself are planning an early spring attempt up Mt. Hood, via Leuthold's Couloir. I've summited before, but not by this route. We would be interested in one or two more members on the rope. It'll probably be a weekend in late March. If interested, contact me.
  10. I'd be down with another attempt at the Tahoma glacier route. Did that one last July, but only made it lower St. Andrews...route was too broken up that late in the season. I've summited twice, once by the Emmons, and the other by the DC. I could probably be talked into going the Emmons again.
  11. sorry, did that one last year. If you're serious, have a good climb.
  12. Tell me what summit you plan to be on next, and I'll make sure I'm there.
  13. I'm so sorry to report that Luke Gullberg, of Des Moines (WA) was killed on Mount Hood earlier today. Two others that were climbing with him are missing. I believe the route was the Reid headwall. I've climbed with Luke, and one of the others, on other peaks in the Northwest. He is a very competent climber, and has turned away from summits before if anything is questionable. Let's keep his family in our prayers.
  14. Three of us are headed up Rainier on Friday, Aug 28, on the DC route. Room for one more, if anyone would like to join. At least some climbing experience preferred.
  15. I've got 3 days off the end of the month, and am looking for a couple others that want to climb Mt. Rainier with my son and I. We've both got glacier experience, and I have reached the summit before. However, we both failed in an attempt last month via the Tahoma glacier. Would prefer someone with experience, as I would be more comfortable not having to lead. If someone's interested, contact me. Thanks.
  16. Can my son and I join? We've got glacier experience. We failed to reach the top 3 weeks ago via the Tahoma glacier route and would like to try again.
  17. Having failed to reach the summit via the Tahoma glacier last month, my son and I are itching for another try via one of the standard routes. We have summited most of the NW peaks (Baker, Adams, Hood, etc.). I have also reached the summit of Rainier a couple of years ago. Have plenty of glacier experience, tho would prefer not to lead. Fridays-Sundays would work best, but might be able to arrange other dates. Only date out of the question would be Sat, Aug 22. Contact me if interested.
  18. Loved sharing it with you and the group. A great 3 days spent on the mountain.
  19. Having done Stuart last month via the Cascadian, it is not much more than a scramble. But in this heat, you should definitely take 2 days, and stay hydrated. There isn't any camping spots if you leave Ingalls creek area until you reach a shelf at about 7600'. But it's a pain hauling a loaded pack up that scree field. Good luck if you go.
  20. Keep an eye out on the conditions. I've heard rumor that the climbing rangers may shut down the DC route early.
  21. Belayer, Great TR! I sure enjoyed spending the weekend with your group. No worry about me not reaching the top. I had a blast. Hope we can get together on another one. Dave
  22. ummm, you were taking the class and you ended up teaching part of it?

  24. Anyone been up the Cascadian Couloir on Mt. Stuart recently that can give a TR? I'm thinking of going this weekend.
  25. I'm coming over from Wenatchee. Figure to be at the trailhead between 9-9:30. No problem with dogs, I've got 2 myself, tho I'm leaving them at home. Hit me back if you're gonna be there.
