  1. I got the chance to play around with a 8x5 Integral Designs silnylon tarp and they seem pretty slick. Any opinions on tarp usage for winter ski touring through summer backpacking. Something like a 8x10? Or go with a Megalight or other fitted tarp? What do you think?
  2. Nevermind. Woah. http://www.outsideonline.com/outdoor-adventure/climbing/mountaineering/everest-2012/Five-Confirmed-Dead-in-Two-Days-on-Everest-and-Lhotse.html
  3. So if that earlier photo is in fact of Everest did all 150 of those people leave the camp at the bottom of the image after daybreak or whats up? A little bit of Photoshop?
  4. Looking for a whippet. I'd prefer second generation if possible. Let me know what you have.
  5. If you live somewhere near a ski shop it may be possible to have some custom work done on boots. I have a pair of Scarpa Maestrales that are 27.0 and I believe they have a 102mm last. I also had the boots punched out over the bunion area and they fit like a dream besides a minor issue molding the liners.
  6. I'm looking for a ~30 to 35 Liter Avalung pack. Let me know what you have available please. Thanks, John
  7. I caught a glimpse of some sort of Dynafit race binding at Marmot Mountain Works in Bellevue, but I'm not sure on which type of race binding it was. Might be worth giving them a call.
  8. I bought a set of Titans used last year, but made a mistake on shell sizing and went one too big. My mistake is your gain. I'm in Bellingham so you are welcome to try them on or I can ship. Photos on request, battling the file uploader right now.
  9. No luck on finding my copy of Bellingham Rock. I have the sneaking suspicion that it got loaned to someone last summer and was returned while I was living out of my car. If it appears I will let you know what it says, but I wouldn't hold my breath on that one.
  10. I'll keep an eye on Craigslist. Sorry to hear.
  11. The ad was posted in 2004 so you might have better luck PMing the OP or checking to see if they have an email linked to their account.
  12. I'll dig out my copy of Bellingham rock and tell you later today.
  13. Check out the status on the washout at Eliot Creek, a couple years ago it was pretty easily bypassed by hiking up to the base of the glacier and crossing there. It required some off trail hiking and a willingness to ignore trespassing signs when I looked. I heard a rumor that FS was ticketing people but haven't heard more than that. I'd agree that the trail would suck in June, the later the better.
  14. I've got the NW Alpine pants, they already have the grommet in the ankle so are ready to roll. I've been using them as ski pants, and the only negative I've had is when the ankle is unsnapped for a while the snap packs full of snow and I have to spend about 2 seconds picking it out. Ohh the bother. They defiantly have a tighter fit, which I like. Doesn't look as steezy for skiing, but fuck it. Bill with NW Alpine was super helpful in getting them shipped to me and I've had some of the best customer service ever from NW Alpine.
  15. When I went up two years ago there were only two significant stretches on the Cassiar that were gravel. Both were maybe 10-20 miles max. Be sure to drive on the top half of your tank, but there were enough open places to make that easy. Howerver I was up there in June and July. I've heard good things about the Liard Hot Springs if you take the other root. I'd imagine things go tits up pretty quick on the Cassiar if the weather hits, and I would also imagine that the Alcan is a better mantained winter road, but that is a lot of supposition on my part. Have a blast and let us know about the drive. It is a beautiful one.
  16. I was XC skiing around Trillium Lake yesterday and there looked to be some sort of ice line that was running about all the way down Mississippi Head. I've been away from the area for a while, and am sure that it is complete garbage with all the sun and rain now, but does that show regularly and has it been climbed? Just ideal curiosity from a crappy climber, sorry if I blew your secret project on the internetz.
  17. I was at a talk by John Reedle(NCNP Head Geologist) and he suggested that the East side of Ross Lake had been primo habitat, but much of it was lost with the creation of the lake. I don't remember much more than that, and have no source, but thought that was a possible reason.
  18. I gave them a call today and am going to go in and get my liners done on Monday. letsroll do you have any specific questions you want me to ask about what work they will do on your shell?
  19. Do you happen to remember costs? IE what heatmolding boot liners would run? Thanks for the advice, I will try to check them out tomorrow.
  20. What was your time getting to Ridgway? Ames looks a lot better than when I caught a glimpse of it a couple of weeks ago, with a heckuva lot more snow around it.
  21. Why sling the boot after crampons are on? I'm having trouble visualizing.
  22. I had a roommate who had an entire wall covered in a wallpaper image of Shuksan, pretty damn cool.
  23. I will be headed over there for work the week after next, leaving Monday and coming back Thursday or Friday. I could give it a try, but I am from Bellingham, and we will be coming back via Highway 20. I'm going to be away from internet till next weekend, but if nothing pans out I could bring them to Bellingham at least. John
  24. Terminal Gravity Brewery is in Enterprise if you end up looking for somewhere to eat. Never been there, but the beer is damn good.
