  2. My Asolo Titans are wide dude - much wider than any La Sportiva I've ever tried on.
  3. omg looks at all them words.... anyone care to write the Coles Notes version for us ADHD folk?
  4. Relatively low volume of precipitation with extended cold and dry periods. Upper sections of many routes have had fatter ice compared to lower sections because limited source snow/water has only been able to feed the higher sections. Hence a route like The Tube is climbing like 5-, lower sections of Synchronicity are dry and thin, etc. Snow and warm temps should help fill everything out.
  5. Olympians are specialists in their particular discipline, whether it be 400 m sprinting, gs skiing, or olympic weightlifting. CrossFit is not intended for specialists - in fact, CrossFit punishes the specialist because it's a program intended for general physical preparedness. The reason why military and emergency services people are drawn to it is because the workouts throw random shit at you: one day it'll be a high intensity metcon workout, the next it'll be a 1 rep max deadlift, the next a 10 km run. So if you're a firefighter or a cop and any given day on the job is likely to consist of unknown emergency events that could require endurance over a long period of time or short bursts of high strength, CrossFit training will help prepare for this. If you're an Olympic athlete you're going to be spending more time in a specialized training program to maximize your ability to perform your sport at the highest level. For instance, if you're a sprinter then rope climbing and muscle ups won't do much to help you win a gold medal. CrossFit mainsite programming is a blanket prescription. They provide a daily workout for everyone! Personally, I don't like to follow anything blindly and prefer to have control over how I program my workouts so I don't do CrossFit. And I think anyone who does really has to question this. But CrossFitters are extremely loyal so I'll expect at least one person to step in and defend the CrossFit mainpage programming. Now regarding the puking, this is a badge of honor among CrossFitters. All you have to do to verify my claim is to go to crossfit.com and read the workout comments for any given day. 1. is puking authorized for this WOD? 3...2...1! Comment #84 - Posted by: ej at December 19, 2009 9:52 AM ____________________________________________________________________ This last dude was rad enough to even include a little smiley emoticon after mentioning how he puked. CrossFit: Forging Elite Fitness!! And here's Pukie The Clown, CrossFit's mascot of elite fitness.
  6. 54 yr old leading all Nose pitches in 15 hrs. Wow, that's impressive!!
  7. I couldn't agree more! But if you're doing a CrossFit metcon workout with a 21-15-9 rep scheme, you are supposed to be going balls out. If you're taking breaks, drinking water, chatting, etc. you're doing it wrong. People puke regularly doing CrossFit - it's part of the game, regardless of whether you or I think it's a good workout. The mascot of CrossFit is a puking clown! I'm just telling it like it is dude.
  8. Hi, anyone up for some ice tomorrow? Head up through Pemberton and either go toward Rambles or D'arcy. PM me if interested
  9. a rep scheme like 21-15-9 is intended to be performed at a high intensity. Think puking and/or passing out. Regarless of the exercises involved, you should be ripping through a 21-15-9 in less than 20 minutes trying to target the phospho-glugacon metabolic pathway. Thus you're doing anaerobic work, gasping for air, not taking breaks, being ELITE. Anything less, you're a pussy. Puddles of puke, rhabdo, cuts, bruises and injuries are a badge of honor. You're on your way to elite fitness when your kidney fails.
  10. A lot of manufacturers cap their boot size at 47.5, so I feel your pain. Scarpa Summits come in sz 48 - good boots for winter mountaineering, but I find them a bit sloppy for steep ice; it's difficult to tighten them enough for a really secure fit. However, out of the box they were a comfortable boot and were warm. Vasque 47.5 seem to fit big so you may want to give some of their models a try.
  11. lol Dru the depths of your depravity continue to surprise me
  12. Besides MEC? ArcTeryx ($$$), Serratus (are these guys even in business anymore?), and Outbound (think camping section at Walmart) are all that come to mind. I'm Canadian and besides ArcTeryx and the occasional better-than-average product that MEC creates, I look to the US for good quality packs, eg. Cilogear, Osprey, BD
  13. Climbers approaching east face of Snowpatch Spire, Bugaboos, BC, Aug. 2005
  14. You don't have to go all the way to Ouray for an ice course dude. American Alpine Institute can provide instruction, either in a group or on an individual basis.
  15. Marc, how's high school going? Are you a senior this year?
  16. http://vancouver.en.craigslist.ca/bnc/spo/1336456712.html No idea about the specs of the WM bag or even if it's still available but looks like a decent deal for $100.
  17. No longer $600 at MEC due to recent general retail price increase. Now $695.00 CAD so maybe not such a good deal for you guys in the US after all?
