  1. Nice TR...I'm thinking of heading up Killen Creek in mid October. Any mosquitoes now? Thanks, -Marc
  2. The "Steps" seem to be put in to prevent erosion since there is a lot of horse traffic. Going up is not so bad but coming down is a knee killer. Sometimes you can walk around them.... I was hoping the Divide camp trail did not use them.... But I have never hiked it.... -marc
  3. Hey Folks, I have climbed the North Cleaver route to the summit of Adams many times. I have always used the Killen Creek trail to get to elevation. This season, I would like to try the Divide Camp trail instead. Has anyone used this trail to access to the North Cleaver? Does it have those god awful stair steps like Killen Creek???? Can you easily access or trek to the pond at 7,500 ft? Thanks in advance. -Marc

  5. Good luck. We will be heading up July 6th from Killen Creek trail head. If you get road status could you kindly post??? I will if we make it before you... -Marc
  6. Hi, I climbed and sumited on Wednesday the 6th. The alternate route is from the Marble Mountain snow camp. That is where we parked and started. The gate/road to the Climbers Bivouac is closed. Not sure when it opens. But based on the snow amounts in the area I would guess a few weeks. You hit snow intermittently on the trail then once you are above 4800ft you can stay on snow. After ~5500 it is all snow. Crampons make the climb a lot more comfortable. Get the kind you can fasten to your hiking boots and you will be a happy hiker. The snow cornice is huge, I would stay about 25ft away from the rim. I was working in the crater last week and I could see it clear as day from the shadow it was giving off... Else, you will slip a little with each step. The glisade down is a hoot. Wear ski pants or bring a thick garbage bag to help here with sliding. Make sure you take off your crampons on the way down;) Enjoy the hike. -Marc
  7. Waterboy, Do you have that trail in a gps track or some weigh points? I would like to check it out but do not want to get lost. Thanks. -Marc
  8. Folks, Looks like the satellite images of Mt Adams have been updated in Google Earth. I recon the shots are early summer images based on the snow amounts. You can even make out the foot trail up the North Cleaver... I mapped some panoramics from the side and top of the mountain they map into Google Earth from here: http://www.gigapan.org/viewProfile.php?userid=594&window_height=624&window_width=1007 Click on view in Google Earth if you want to inject them onto the mountain. You can zoom and pan too. They might be a good reference if you want to assess the terrain.... -Marc
  9. John, I here a nice High pressure system is coming in tonight and heading out on Monday. I watched the weather today to make sure. If you can you might want to bump up your trip to Saturday to take advantage of this system. It gets really nasty up there when a front comes through...At least it did for me... Have a good one and be safe. -Marc
  10. John, I was in my truck. Secondly, I called the ranger station in Trout Lake today. I asked about Road 23. She said for the most part, it is still snow covered. They said the snow level was at about 5k feet and for the last several days I believe it has been snowing / raining. At least that is what the weather people keep saying about hood.... -Marc
  11. I took a ride up today / Sunday 26th. I elected to stop about a mile past the first horse camp. Some one was parked there too. There was snow on the road at this point. -Marc
  12. Took a hike in the Gifford Pinchot this past weekend up to the top of Sunrise peak, about 4k. Good place to scope out the surroundings and enjoy the views. The North Cleaver of Adams is looking cold... Here is a 360 view... gigapan Or a regular shot... -Marc
  13. Good job, loved the shots, see you up there next year. -Marc Here is a panoramic for others interested in the route...
  14. Amy, I have loads of shots, I'm out of town but will be back tonight. I will post some or find away to get you what you would like to see. I have some maps too. THere are some key points to turn if you are headed up the cleaver.... -Marc
  15. Summitted up the North Cleaver from Killen Creek on Saturday the 19th. Snow on the trail from the Meadow to the pond at 7505, but then nominal snow from there to the summit. Here is a shot from the pond. Roads were clear coming down from Randal. Bring lots of bug spray, they were eating us alive up the trail. -Marc
