  1. I watched an interview with Kelly's wife (yesterday morning, I believe), and I swear she said her son called Kelly, not the other way around. Anybody else see the interview?
  2. Once again...sunshine and light.
  3. Found: 2 ice axes one sleeping bag rope probably other stuff that didn't get communicated to him No climbers Footprints were leading up Snow cave tells them they knew what to do and they can do it again. Thinks they tried to self rescue and then had to dig another snow cave somewhere.
  4. Press conference right now.
  5. Fox mentioned they are monitoring the radio traffic. I am sure CNN is too. Press conference cancelled. That scares me.

  7. Press conference in a few minutes.
  8. CNN just reported a communication on the radio "prepare to evacuate the summit at 1600 hours." No indication of what it means.
  9. Fox "reconfirmed" that the Y is made of snow, not rope.
  10. I think we're all watching it on TV.
  11. CNN and Fox need to get rid of the friggin giant banners and pictures at the bottom of the page....it's half the screen.
  12. Thanks, I was talking about the guys on the opposite side. But several people answered it before I finished asking the question. Y'all are fast.
  13. So, if the cave is really only 300 feet from the summit, would they likely try to haul him up to where the rescuers were dropped off? Watching the feed on CNN, there are a bunch of guys up on the ridgeline watching one climbing down. Then, on the other (sunny) side, there appears to be some guys doing something (saw some swinging motions like they were driving something into the snow). Any insight on what they are doing? Now there's a second guy climbing down.
  14. A National Guard captain said live on CNN that they dropped rescuers on the west side of the mountain.
  15. Duh. I was looking for something a bit more detailed....e.g. can you airlift them directly from the location of the cave? Or do you have to somehow carry them up to the summit? How do you do that? Etc., etc., etc.
  16. Some pretty incredible video on Fox showing teams landing on the top and teams climbing up to the summit.
  17. Can someone with SAR or Hood experience elaborate on the possible scenario(s) for how they would evacuate Kelly (and others if together) if he is found injured 300 feet from the summit?
  18. Mr. Jones wins the Stanley Power Tool award.
  19. During the press conference, the various officials were very optimistic. I would imagine they would have been more guarded if they thought it was a bad sign.
  20. Some video from the C-130 today: http://www.katu.com/news/local/4937871.html?video=pop&t=a
  21. What about my post was negative????
  22. Ummm, I didn't post anything unsupportive.
  23. It was nowhere near clear at the top of the mountain today. 50-mph winds and near white-out conditions turned SAR back at 10,000 feet. Good new is that the choppers spotted a piece of gear about 300 feet from the summit. See this update: http://www.oregonlive.com/news/oregonian/index.ssf?/base/news/1166329517283160.xml&coll=7 The article also gives some info on why SAR came back down. Edit: fixed link.
