  1. For those of you who still remain skeptical of the human impact on climate change, the answer is rather simple: YOU ARE A RETARD.
  2. Supps that have been shown effective in research studies: Whey Protein Creatine Monohydrate, and a few other forms Branched Chain Aminos Arginine Leucine and [some] research shows supplementing Glutamine may help with immune function.. Be careful not to waist $$$ because there is a lot of crap out there. When I climb I basically treat that form of exercise as any other, keeping in mind that you need more nutrition anyways, taking in aminos during a climb can't hurt. Also, contrary to a lot of people on here, I know for fact that creatine works to support lean tissue no matter what kind of athlete you are.
  3. Hey dude, Yes, you DEFINITELY need to chat with a doc about this. If your doc is simply replacing your endogenous levels to normal, you should be OK in the long run. Ideally, you shouldn't need to stay on it forever however - a specialized exercise training and nutrition program is the most effective way increase your levels naturally. Athletes who inject themselves with testosterone to supra-physiologic concentrations really do increase the risk of early mortality. Yes - you can increase the size and thickness of your cardiac muscle tissue. Thats only one worry however. Many steroid users eventually find themselves dealing with tumors years after cessation (high T levels increase the risk of cancer development). The most dangerous aspect however, is probably the damage to the liver caused by steroid abuse. That alone will shorten one's life. My advise: your testosterone was probably low because of a miriad of reasons, and most doctors don't know enough about stress and endocrinology to truly fix the problem from the bottom up. There is a doctor down in Ballard that is an expert with this stuff. Her clinic has a website: www.spmedicine.com. Anyway, good luck. Take care of yourself.
  4. It seems to me that Atheism is just as much a religion as any other religion. Personally, I don't think it really matters whether or not god exists or not. Because in the end, the only thing I'm sure of is that I have the Here and Now. So fuck it. Why should I worry about whether or not I'll still be around after my body dies? I didn't worry about getting born did I? I do find myself believing that there is something a little more complex about this universe than we think however. Its almost as if the idea of a black death, where all consciousness stops, is too easy of an idea. My experience tells me that life becomes more infinitely complex and mysterious the longer I live. So it seems logical that death too must be equally mysterious. Good thread Trash.
  5. "Why won't anyone talk to me." Hey Tvashtar, I've heard a bit about you from my good pal the ASS MAN. I was watching CNN last night, and this clip about the sea kayaker guy who's been paddling to the sea ice came on. Apparently (which I think we all knew already) the arctic sea ice is disappearing faster than scientists thought. So I think you are probably right on about polar bears heading into the ocean depths if we don't do something....
  6. Don't be fooled Kevey, what is that they say? "The devil has many disguises" ??? Cuteness has absolutely ZERO to do with her ability to act as possible president. Shit, I was talking to some people about her this morning, and heard some quotes that she said about the Iraq war. When she was asked about what she thought of the war, she said something like "Oh, I've been pretty busy being governor to really stay up on it" Then she comes around and says in her convention speech, "we are near victory in Iraq!!" All I can say is......LYING SACK OF SHIT..... If they get in, we are so fucked. Not that we aren't already.....
  7. I'm heading up the DC this coming Tuesday, but I could be interesting in slogging up there again.... especially up the Gibralter Ledges. Thats a route I've eyeballed for several years. Send me a PM...
  8. I have plans to go bang out both of the Sisters peaks in one day: (was turned around 2 weeks ago because the bridge leading to Daley Prairy had been torn out, and is now under construction. It should be finished now however) -Mountain bike in, starting on trail around 7:30am. -Gain the west ridge of the South Twin by 9:00 or so -Summit by 11:00 -Down climb or rappel the north face -Gain West Ridge of North twin by 3:00 -Summit North Twin no later than 5:00 -Back into the central basin, then climb back up to the base of the south twin's W. ridge. There by 7:00 -Back at mountain bike stash no later than 8:00 -18 minutes later, after hauling ass downhill, back at truck no later than 9:00 I added a lot of time here and there to account for lolligaging, so I know I could move faster. I'm not usually into these kinds of timed trips, but I was turned back on the South Twin earlier this summer because I was stupid and started the day at 2:30 pm, and it got too late. Anyway, it would be a fantastic workout....
  9. Blake, I can't do anything this weekend, but I would be more than stoked to get something in before the 24th of this month. Let me know what you're up to. I'm heading to Rainier this Tues., but Fri - Sun I'm thinking I could jam something out...
  10. She's not a MILF. She looks kinda like a pitbull, with lipstick. Why do republican women all have man-jaws? My point exactly.....
  11. Gay is such a strange descriptor. You'd think that someone who was raised by multiple lesbians (myself) would hate hearing it used as a put down; but then again, my "gay" mom uses it all the time!!! Heck, she even called Sarah Palin a "Stupid Nazi Dike" when she was giving her speech the other night....
  12. Don't trust those digital body fat scales!!! They tend to over estimate HUGELY. 175 lbs. BF = 6%
  13. I knew it!! You bastard!! Christ you people are bad news......
  14. Do you do any strength training for your legs? I'm not a practicing PT yet, but I do know that many times these problems can be solved through specialized strength programs. I've been pondering your thread since this morning, and have another idea: What if (for the time being) you changed your running routine to be more focused on explosive running power, rather than the long, slow distances. If you are going out and running for 60 minutes, there are probably fatigue issues effecting your biomechanics that you are unaware of as early as 25 minutes into your session. What I'm talking about would be to go find an olympic size track, and practice exploding out for no more than 100 meters (perhaps even shorter distances, like 40m). What you want to do is activate your fast twitch motor units (which have more likely than not been dormant for a long time) and re-wire the way your brain controls your running movement patterns. If I were your therapist, I'd want you to practice the running/sprinting patterns as much as possible, without fatiguing your lower extremity to the point of altered biomechanics. I used to get infrapatellar pain, and inflamation and pain in my hamstrings tendons. What helped me the most was to actually view running as its own "sport", or "specialized movement", which it is. I started training with my track buddies, and they said "dude, your all F****ed up". So I put my mind into getting good at this, and now I can run nearly as long as I want without pain (I am getting over shin splints). Just look at how much time olympic sprinters spend perfecting their gate pattern!! Before I just viewed it as a training method for climbing. Now, it's its own activity. Anyway, I wish I could give you more...
  15. :lmao:Oh dude, you just made my complete day!!!!
  16. so thats what happened to me! So since you guys know knees soooooooo well please tell me why my tibial tuberosity is inflammed? No its not osgood schlaughters. No its not patella tendonitis. And yes I have good cartidlidge and no bone fx or weaknesses. PT exercises only do good for about 4-6 months before the injury comes back and yes, I continued doing them. What about your feet? Have you ever seen a physical therapist who's examined your gait? Perhaps you are a candidate for custom orthotics? An inflamed tibial tuberosity can be caused by malalignment in the lower extremity (jacked biomechanics). Your problem could be coming from overly pronating or supination feet, muscle weekness in your hip extensors / external rotators, or perhaps even a muscular imbalance between your knee extensors and flexors. Its hard to say without actually looking at you and analyzing how you move. Even subtle discrepancies in biomechanics can be dangerous to tissues. This is why most injuries happen when athletes are fatigued and their muscle activation times change, even by just a tiny bit. I do know for sure that calcaneal tuberosity (achilles insertion) pain is usually caused by lateral forces on the tendon. It would make sense then that chronic lateral forces on the quadriceps tendon could cause insertion (tuberosity) pain. Basically, you have to remember that everybody's movement patterns are unique, and so we can't say "oh, this exercise is evil...". Running on its own is probably not the only culprit to your pain. Its more likely a bigger issue with your movement patterns. Dr. Layton probably has some good ideas on this...
  17. I know, its ridiculous. I've got some thoughts on re-naming the profession to "exercise assistants". Because thats all they are. The people who've gone through school and gotten real certifications are the one's who should be called "Personal Trainers". And the educated people should be payed a lot more! For example, I know a guy in Bellingham who has a master's degree in exercise physiology, has the highest certs through the ACSM and NSCA, and has 25 years of experience coaching and TRAINING top athletes in numerous settings. He calls himself an athletic trainer, and will only hire personal trainers to work under him who have at least a bachelor's degree in a health related field, and who have demonstrated functional knowledge. From my observations he really knows what he's doing. To me, its down right offensive that health clubs can hire some wanker with no education, put him/her through a 2 week "certification process" and then call them an "expert personal trainer". Its more like "expert asshole" who thinks he/she is god.... 24 hour fitness does this by putting applicants through their APEX course, at which time "PT's" are basically just taught everything they need to know about selling memberships and supplements - not how to actually help their clients through science based exercise science foundations. Kay, done.
  18. I've been contemplating attempting this trip in one day, nonstop. How is the traverse to Icy? How are crevasses on the Ruth Glacier?
  19. I TRY to be obnoxious and offensive. Maybe thats its own sub class of loser.
  20. You know, he gave a real charismatic presentation too.........
  21. They will tear after three or four uses!! No matter how convincing the salesman is, secondhand condoms are NEVER a wise choice... BTW, I have a child because of the pill not being 100%, so.... On the other hand, I can say I have "super sperm"!! You go SUPER SPERM!! Personally, I use radiation poisoning from uranium rods on myself as my 100% fool-proof sperm killer....
  22. This lady is down right frightening. Her whole speech was a bunch of democrat bashing, and very little logical speak of real issues...
  23. HAHA I just knew you assholes would ask that question. Jerks. If you must know, I like to warm up on the elliptical before doing any powerlifting or heavy leg stuff. Running before those exercises seems to fatigue me just enough that I can't lift as intensely. Plus, I did a bunch of work for Precor last spring, so I'm attempting to support their machines.... You sprayers
