  1. Yes. I have always had this problem. The conundrum that you face is that if you "climb" you automatically disrespect "the resource". Unless you walk to the crag and free solo. People argue for the tree that is being cut down after driving a car to the crag and pulling out a rope and gear made from petroleum and extracted minerals as they participate in an activity that serves no social good. Climbing is not a noble cause, it is an inherently selfish endeavor. It is a waste of energy resources and it destroys the environment, period. But people want to argue over trees and bolts.
  2. Another short excerpt: "Following the incident, Kinder received death threats, hate messages, and antagonizing phone calls from complete strangers." Surely, the correct way to handle the situation. Post the guy's personal information online so the whole trollverse can shit all over his life, because he cut down a tree. Meanwhile, you and your ilk stick to your guns, continuing your argument by using electricity from nonrenewable resources on an overpopulated planet while the fusion pressure in the Sun continues to increase, allowing it to eventually expand and engulf the inner planets, including the Earth, and the trees on the Lower Town Wall, next to the railroad tracks, and the highway. Totally.
  3. Chirp's a good guy. He shit all over Dean Potter right after the news of his death, then posted himself a sweet mea culpa. All's well.
  4. Bullshit. Dawg walks the walk! Here's a pic of the Dawg and Pope sticking up for what they stand for and battling the Bolt King and the Mummy.
  5. too cynical - despite flaws, American public schools are still pumping out plenty of good citizens Not cynical at all: "An experiment is an orderly procedure carried out with the goal of verifying, refuting, or establishing the validity of a hypothesis. Experiments provide insight into cause-and-effect by demonstrating what outcome occurs when a particular factor is manipulated." What happens instead is that the newly elected SOPI, or congress person, gets rid of the programs and assessments of their predecessors and replaces it with their own pet ideas, regardless of any quantifiable data. Repeat, ad nauseam, ad infinitum.
  6. WASL, NCLB,HSPE, EALRs, SBAC, Common Core, NGSS, COE, EOC, etc, etc, etc. Public Education: The Failed Experiment
  7. Always sad when anyone dies, and certainly not the time or place to discuss the "why" in the passing of such a complex individual. But perhaps a bit of humor to lighten the mood: Truly Inspirational
  8. Teachers only work half the year. That's all we need to care about as we excoriate these ne're do wells.
  9. Great question. Teachers have bachelors, and masters, and sometimes even PhD degrees, and therefore, the hourly rate of teachers equals the hourly rate of people with bachelors, masters, and sometimes PhD degrees.
  10. Teacher's should make as much or less than the average hourly salary of a heavy equipment operator. This will keep qualified candidates from joining the field of education and allow them the opportunity to become heavy equipment operators, or join professions that actually matter and improve society, like professional sports.
  11. You guys against this "illegal strike" are correct: teachers are parasitic scum that serve no purpose in our society. We should close all public schools and have parents teach their own children the things that they feel that they will need for them to succeed in our increasingly complex and demanding society. STEM classes, for example, can and should be taught in the comfort of the family home by skilled parental educators well versed in the basic knowledge of differential and integral calculus, precision machining, CAD, kinematics and mechanics, genetics, and stoichiometry that any responsible parent normally bequeaths to there children. Right? Otherwise you are simply an internet troll that should get a life. It is useless to argue with zealots...
  12. If you're tired of the man-on-man action, Sumas Mountain has had some hot mouse-in-man action. Just sayin'...
  13. I just wanted to join in on this in important debate... "He Has Such An Unfortunate Name"
  14. Here's the rig: Been out on it twice now, working out the kinks, change overs, and escapes. Much more confidence inspiring than the single Ushba Sport, but I haven't taken any big whippers yet. I have a piece of accessory cord girth hitched into the top micro, and will eventually get that dialed into the right length. The knurled latch on the biners (Mammut Crag Smart) is a tight fit through the holes on the traxion, but it works and they are super-bomber. Runs smooth, only a few more steps during transitions, and I really like how you only have to extend your torso and stand up to pull in slack, hands free.
  15. tantrum screaming after falling in the same "behaving like asshole" category. My question is: who the fuck raised you? I know that guy. I saw him do that once and was like "whoa". I think he also beat his bike to death after a mountain bike crash.
  16. No one names their dog "Cum Dumpster".
  17. Descending Yak Peak, saw a dog leashed to a tree at the base, full Sun, out of water, whimpering, climbers nowhere to be seen up high. Awesome experience for the dog, I'm sure. Correct name for ultra-cool climber dog: Neve
  18. Personal anecdotal evidence: I've had more friends and acquaintances die from suicide than from all other causes combined. And, I am very happy to report, none have died in climbing accidents.

    Drones

    Fuck drones. They suck. Discuss.
  20. I suppose it depends on the route. Last time I was out on Solo-TR, I got a case of the chicken shits, built a gear belay mid-pitch, connected to that, switched over to rappel, and cleared the belay. Not possible on a sport route. I would not trust a single bolt mid pitch, a number of deaths have occured that way when the bolt failed. I've also done the ascender thing in the past but I sold my "Jumar" jumars because they terrified me and I still need to replace them. Also, I prefer the klemheist to the prusik knot. Just sayin'...
