  1. 4th Annual Dallas Kloke Memorial Work and Climb Day at Mt. Erie, WA April 12, 2014 Dallas Kloke was an avid climber and route developer in the Northwest for over 50 years until his death in a climbing fall on September 25, 2010. Mt. Erie was a special place to him and to keep it special and to honor his legacy, SRCFC will be holding the 4th Annual Dallas Kloke Memorial Work and Climb Day at Mount Erie on April 12, 2014. The day will begin at 9:00 am with Work Projects organized by Anacortes City Park and Recreation Department. Meet at the Ray Auld drive at the base of Mt. Erie. Work Projects should wrap-up about noon. Bring trail maintenance tools such as flat shovels, buckets, shears, gloves, etc. Contact Jonn Lunsford with the park department for more info. After the work time at 12:30 pm, we will gather at the Lower Access Trailhead off Heart Lake Road to go climbing together and to do this year's giveaway. It will include a pair of 5.10 shoes to a lucky winner and a bag of chalk for all! The afternoon will be time to climb some of Dallas’s routes or ones that were special to him. Find more information at http://www.srcfc.org/Events/AnnualDallasKlokeMemorial. 5. On September 25, 2010, Ten feet short of “The Pleiades” summit in North Cascades of Washington, Dallas Kloke dislodged a coffee-table sized block that knocked him off his route. He was part of a party of five that were scrambling un-roped on 3rd/4th class terrain. His partners watched him fall 300 feet, which appeared to be fatal before they lost sight of him. Dallas Kloke was a husband, father, Christ-follower, friend, climber, runner, a SRCFC member since 1992, SRCFC Board of Director Member and SRCFC Western Washington Chapter Coordinator. To honor his legacy, SRCFC will be holding a 2nd Annual Dallas Kloke Memorial Work and Climb Day at Mount Erie on April 21st. 6. Jonn, thanks for posting this and taking on work party part. In preparation for memorial gathering I prepared a photo book of his climbing including what he and others wrote. It was such a blessing to know him. I'm planning on doing what he calls the best route at Mt. Erie, Zig Zag, in mountain boots and tied in with a bowline on a coil (sans pitons) as he suggested in his guidebook. Hope to meet many of his friends on the 23rd. Calvin
  7. Technically, its not a free route...yet. I was climbing with Central Oregonain, Mike Stoger, last week and got the facts. His friend, Brad Heller along with Lawson, prep it and they worked the route on top-rope. But it was too hot last summer when he visited. If you look at Heller's MP route description (See http://www.mountainproject.com/v/oregon/smith_rock/picnic_lunch_wall/106824064), there is no one listed under FA. Climbing magazine was wrong when they credited as being a free route.
  8. Dallas was a friend, Western Washington Chapter Coordinator and Board Member of the organization I head - Solid Rock Climbers for Christ. His love for his family, climber partners, athletes, running, climbing and living will be missed. His favorite verse is "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life." John 3:16 http://cascadeclimbers.com/plab/showphoto.php?photo=60549 Dallas (white helmet) September 2009 on summit of Liberty Bell.
  9. Good Question, Good answer by a climber who owned up to his actions.
