Yes, it wears on the chains, but it's done 90% of the time at the crags. That doesn't make it right, but it's common practice. Most sport climbers lead, clip to chains, thread rope through chains, re-tie, then get lowered and clean. It is even expained in some instruction books, specifically, I think John Long's Advanced Rock Climbing. Rapping the chains is best on the anchors. I don't always rap, I re-tie and lower because it's faster or sometimes easier. Top-Roping the chains is very bad, but I bet 90% of the people here have done it or still do it from time to time. I see it EVERY time I got toa popular crag. I've seen people on this site do it. I've done it too. I agree, i have seen this done, plenty of times at the crags. I am guilty of it myself. I am not saying its right, but most of the sport climbers I know just lower off. Now if you dont believe this, well!! I dont do it anymore =)

I need help. I have been climbing in my Khoflac plastics for years now, and Im getting sick of their heavy nature. I am looking for a lightweight mountaneering boot. Right now here are my choices. 1) La Sportiva Glaciers 2) La Sportiva Evo GTX thats about it for now. Do these two boots take step in super 12 charlet moser crampons? Im not looking for anything more expensive then these boots. Tell me what you think thanks -T

Hello there I am looking for a climbing partner in Seattle area. I live in Kent at the moment. A little about me. Im in my 20's, I have alot of free time, as I dont work right now. I have basic glacier travel/mountaneering skills. I can lead sport climb up to 5.9 on a good day. And I am pretty new at Trad, I can lead up to 5.7/5.8? I Also enjoy climbing at the gym when im bored. I got gear, all I need is a new partner. Not lookin for crazy rope guns or super fast people, just folks who want to have fun.
