  1. Have you ever experienced fear while on lead? Has your ego ever taken control of your thoughts? (I'm a great climber because I can climb x, y, and z.) These thoughts are taping energy from your climbing and preventing you from pushing to the next level. Our intention is to help people improve self-awareness so they can become more powerful when interacting with challenging situations, whether they are challenged by a demanding rock climb, operating a competitive business, being a better teacher, or more present parent. A warrior is an archetype for courage that we all act through when facing challenging, stressful, and risky situations. Sometimes we act powerfully as a warrior would and sometimes we feel overcome by stress and therefore ineffective. This archetype exemplifies the way we need to respond to difficult situations. By learning how a soldier or warrior handles stress we become more effective in less perilous, yet still important, situations. We all desire to be courageous when challenged. By learning how to embody the warrior archetype we rally our attention and therefore our courage. Being a warrior may seem like an aggressive, male approach but it is just as much a receptive, female one. By joining with the challenge, applying energy as needed, modifying your approach to what is required by the challenge, you blend both male and female energies and use attention impeccably. Arno Ilgner is returning to Oregon to offer several clinics based upon his book, The Rock Warriors Way. 3. This Wednesday February 14th at 7pm, local climber and 2006 Mazama expedition grant recipient Michael Layton will be giving a sideshow on 1st ascents in North America at the Mazamas, 527 SE 43rd Ave (at Stark), Portland OR 97215. Mr. Layton has traveled to Alaska, British Columbia, and the Cascades of Washington and Oregon to do 1st ascents not only on unnoticed classics in popular areas, but traveled deep into the heart of the Cascades to climb new routes on huge walls on distant peaks. All of his first ascent have been done in ground up alpine style with no bolts...and of course, no topo! Come and watch him recount these adventures put to music and beautiful slides and video footage. Highlights of the show will be his epic Mox Peak climb, called "the most significant ascent in the Cascades is the past 50 years", and his recent ultralight forrays deep in the legendary Picket Range. Mr. Layton will be available after the show to answer questions. This is a great show for all lovers of mountains and nature!
  4. Red Rock Canyon is usually 8 degress or so cooler than Vegas mostly due to higher elevation. The Brock book, mentioned by chris stolz, also will tell you when a climb is in the sun or shade. Buy this book and spend some quality time with it. Here's a link for checking out historical weather by time of the year. Plug in Vegas, end of Sept and you get a 64% chance the weather will be over 90 deg. At 8 degrees cooler, it won't be that bad, since it'll be dry.

  12. The gate to Cold Springs, near Morrison Creek Trailhead is open. Also, we were able to drive to within 1/4 mile of the South Spur Trail head, Sat 6-24. As of toady there still is snow in the camp and you can not drive into the campground, but with the warm temps that may change this week.
  13. Anyone know if the Westside Road is clear to Dry Creek?
  14. Also check out http://www.mountainproject.com/ for a online searchable database of many climbing hot spots, J-Tree included. You can search by trad or sport and by rating. Free is good.
  15. The GPS thing can be bad if your map datum doesn't match fs's map datum. You could think your on target and end up on Yocum..... btw, fs, nice climb and awesome pics!
  16. I'm intersted. Check your email.
  17. I've lost 60 lbs and kept it off for 4 years. Eating less and doing more is the bottom line, but there are some tricks that help: I did it by eating small amounts all day to never let myself get hungry, not eating late in the day, increasing fiber, decreasing fat, decreasing simple carbs, increasing protein, and religiously reading labels to avoid eating anything that contained something I couldn't pronounce. Cardio exercise is also important and this article best represents what works well for me in terms of burning fat: http://walking.about.com/cs/fitnesswalking/a/hearttraining.htm While it my seem trite, it really does involve a complete lifestyle change, one that you enjoy and can stick with the rest of your life.
