  1. Is that Bob Marley on the left hand side???? Darn hippies complaining all the time - go take a bath and get with the program ... change is inevitable, yes; good, not always, but no one can deny that the explosion of climbing at Smith grew this sport into what it is today. Which is pretty cool if you ask me.
  2. Interesting to note the firemen still use the Figure 8 as a personal (non-rescue load) belay device. Our team does not allow any belaying with the figure 8 and highly discourage using them for rappeling. Unfortunately there isn't much out there to use to rappel on 12mm ropes!
  3. The daisy chains are normally girth hitched to the harness. The difference is that they should never be subjected to a dynamic event. (Here we go again on the physics stuff, but it is important to understand the difference between dynamic and static forces)
  4. According to the flyer - the Tractor Tavern is a "21 and older establishment".
  5. Fantastic work again by members of Portland Mountain Rescue and the AMR RAT Team in rescuing an injured climber/skier from the Reid yesterday! Apparently the fellow fell nearly 300ft while skiing (the Reid??!!). Anyway, the rescuers took nearly 12hours total to reach, treat, package, and transport across the Reid, over Illumination Saddle and back to TLine. The AMR rescuers then continued transporting the victim to Emanual. Good job everyone!!
  6. Search and Rescue Demonstration at Multnomah Falls April 23 @ 0900-1400 Local PDX SAR Teams will be at the falls doing demonstrations and staffing informational booths. This event coincides with a trash clean-up on the cliffs and pools around the falls. Teams will be doing a few scenarios including a mid-face pick-off/litter evac on the upper falls cliff. Teams scheduled to participate include PMR, Crag Rats, AMR RAT Team, PNWSAR, Mult. County SAR, Mult. County Dive Team, Wash. County SAR, Mt. Wave Communications, Search one K-9, and many more. Come watch and support the teams!
  7. The Army MAST program based in Salem is still up and running and have been performing a lot of rescues in Oregon over the last few years. Perhaps they will be utilized at Rainier? The PJ's from the 304th (Air Force) are still in Portland, albeit without their helicopters, but sometimes the Army picks those guys up and uses them .. they are much better trained in high-alpine helo rescues.
  8. I can't seem to find the post of the local areas here in the Hood area. Isn't there one at the Mazama Lodge?
