Wow! You *heard* that? Holy shit - that's impressive 2nd-hand info! Dude. He called the fruit picker shortage, and that was from signs on the road. I'd ask him for lotto numbers.

    Dirtbaggin'

i'm not sure about the hang-up on this "dirt-bag" label, but it sounds like what you wanna do is work part of the year and then climb part of the year, and do the climbing part on the cheaps. wait tables, drive a taxi (that's what i did at one point, made around 200 a day, and could come and go as i pleased), construction, alaska fishing (especially crab, if you can get in), guiding (but kinda sucks for money), turn tricks if you're hot. traveling er nurse sounds like a good gig for the right person. an acquaintance's friend does this and works 4 months annually, making around 40 or 50 grand. teaching can be good, with a few months off a year, but hard to find work now. if you really want to "dirt bag", just do it. hop the rails and head south. good time of year to do it now, when the weather sucks up here for the next 3 months.

sexual compulsion is hardly freedom. neither is reproduction, in and of itself.

that's pretty funny: "the crazier you get as a Jain, the less we have to worry about you." the first vid was good. the second was too decontextualized from his overall views, increasing the opportunity to entirely misconstrue him. i do wonder though why he never (that i've seen) mentions the repressive conditions that, without fail, give support to the extreme elements of islamist thought? and, i am curious, would you consider the big bang an expression of freedom.

your post above makes me thirsty for a sea of beer. Hercules IPA, to be specific, if i have a say in the matter. but it does catalyze a thought: how far back does our thirst for self-determination go? is it inherent in the liberation of the big bang (would you call the big bang "liberation"? or would you call it being cast away from singularity (aka the garden of eden))? yeah we should probably talk about something interesting sometime, but in the meantime, you are one wacky guy!

a contemporary Wall of Hadrian could be made of concrete, right JayB? It's the only solution I've heard him mention. Or perhaps sitting on a throne of indignation, hammering away at the Koran might be a better solution? And yes, yes, before you start again, the Koran has passages that support violence, OMG.

"death's of 100's of thousands of innocents" Dresden Hiroshima etc. those two that you mention above are definitely psychopathic in nature, in the clinical sense of the term. are you comparing the larger context of WWII to the Iraq war?

are you comparing george bush jr.'s iraqi pursuits with the actions of those above? do you consider them equal?

"never the obvious call"? I'd say it's fairly obvious on this one. if ET showed up (ask tvash) and saw the carnage that US foreign policy has bequeathed upon the world, there wouldn't be much room for equivocation. but before you get all wound up: other countries have fucked shit up too! amazing! no self-hate needed. but you are right about the sociopathy charge: i think psychopathy is more fitting, with a touch of psychosis. i mean, check it out: george bush all of a sudden starts believing in a guy who claimed to talk to god some 2,000 years ago. ok, so this part i'm cool with; i think i've talked to god too! but here's the hard part: this 2,000 year old god-talker named jesus said hey humanoids, love each other. blessed are the peace-makers. god says to chill out and turn the other cheek. if you do anything , at least don't hurt others. so here's this self-proclaimed born-again christian who has taken jesus the peace-monger as his personal saviour and unequivocal leader , yet somehow finds the capacity to attack a defenseless country with the largest most sophisticated army in the history of mankind, KILLING HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS OF INNOCENT PEOPLE. if the above does not fit the diagnostics of psychosis and psychopathy, then the terms are meaningless and entirely political in nature.

i'm quite sure i've witnessed this phenomenon from almost everyone who posts here. certainly you lump "the left" and "the libtards" and stalinists together, yes? this gets a little trickier perhaps: i'd contend that the american/puritan/rapacious capitalist model does trend towards social darwinism. heck, if you don't have the smarts/drive/luck of the draw etc., you might even find yourself quite literally dead, due to your unfortunate circumstances living wihtout health insurance, in a high crime area, etc etc. certainly his generalization is just that: a generalization; but i do believe it holds truth. i'd hold that what pushed the unabomber into the clinically identifiable "sociopath" department was his willingness to engage in terrorism. i would also hold that george bush was a much more dangerous sociopath than ted kaczynski, responsible for the slaughter of 100,000's of thousands of completely innocent people, but he didn't live alone in the woods without friends, and he had cover in the form of "acceptability" and the veneer of "sanity".

Good article: islam's influence in egypt.
  13. Interstate Commerce Clause ? thats how the feds gained and abused most of their power anyway... the Interstate Commerce Clause has been used to great ends historically, and I do see an opportunity to employ it in the present beacon rock situation. obviously there exists an administrative apparatus that has been given legal oversite over the rock in question, and the simplest route to excluding Oregonians from this rock would be to lobby this apparatus, but having a back-up plan rooted in a constitutionally supported argument certainly gives additional weight to our position.

oh, ok, you simply didn't undersand. that's different. you might have asked him though, nicely, as to what he meant. my take is that he thinks there are deep human values and rights that get trampled in a society that gives primacy to money and its attendant influences. there is nothing original about the US being shaped in so manys ways by the aggregration of capital in the hands of a few who then exert tremendous influence on policy and culture, but i believe that, regardless of how much precedent exists, he is troubled by it.

You are f-ing insane. is there any chance you might for once add something of substance and value to a thread? you take the time to read, but you rarely add anything beyond insult. i'm curious as to your reason for posting at all. is it to give your children something to read some day?
  16. DID I FKN CALL THIS ONE? HUH? how could anyone ever have thought that? how did you know?
  17. has anyone considered simply banning all oregon climbers from beacon rock? is there any legal framework for developing such a scenario? interstate trade in idiocy? i don't know, something....

you amuse me! i have a visceral agreement with what you say, but i also have a tendency to question my viscera. i'm not sure it's quite as simple as what you say, contrary to the evidence.

i'd like jayb to actually, for once, state his position clearly, without the headache inducing madness that masquerades as principled ideology. to accomplish this end, i thought i would give him the benefit of the doubt, but evidently this didn't interest him. not that i necessarily blame him....

  24. Can't we just nip this thing in the bud and ban all Oregon climbers from beacon? I mean it is in WA and all....
  25. i do sincerely hope that my use of the word "faggot" in the thread "hey, you faggots", was not taken by any as an expression of underlying bigotry. i think that the content of the thread made this clear. i think dan savage co-opted this term from regressives beautifully years ago (before marketing considerations forced a name-change!).
