  1. Went to Vantage with Dryad. Learned to lead. Whoo Hoo! Thanks Simona! Climbed alot. Great Weather! Ran into CPoly, Craig, Rocksanyone, and TBSqrd. Hiya Guys! Went out to dinner and a club with Doc on Halloween. No hangover though.
  2. To answer my own question....the UPPER stuff is open...and its all black diamond...which I cannot ski...yet. They're supposed to get a foot of snow this weekend....but that remains to be seen. So for plans...well...I'd say maybe next weekend for Hood if they open the lower stuff.... So Dryad...lets hit some rock. Do you fancy a trip to Vantage? We can stay overnight if your little heart desires...PM me dear and lets make some plans. If you still fancy freshiez....Im sure you have your choice of partners...I've got the 10 year old so we'll probably climb.
  3. I'm an idiot...please help me read a map Is the Palmer snow field that whole area? Is it below the lodge or above it? They need a better map of the trails.
  4. Here's the dealio...its supposed ot be sunny but cold in Vantage...and its a 2 hour drive....theres our rock. The Palmer Snow Field is open at TImberline...and its snowing....but I don't know what the Palmer Snow Field is? Is it just one lift with a coupld of green runs? Is it several lifts with a mix of easy and difficult runs? Can anybody help here?
  5. Okay...time to make some plans...rock or snow...rock or snow...checkin the weather report...lesseee here....stay tuned...
  6. did he hurt his little backy whacky? awwww
  7. MOST monkeys have opposable thumbs on their feet as well as their hands. If he's one of these....does he wear climbing shoes or go shoeless? Oh...and I climb for drugs, sex, and rock n roll...yeah...thats it. tee hee
  8. Thanks Guys! We've got room for a couple more in our car if anybody is interested...I'll call them tomorrow morning and post on whether its a go or not. Its so nice to live here in the PNW....theres so much to do
  9. T'was a beautiful (well, cool anyways) sight from the Plateau as well. We watched the whole thing.
  10. This applies to the sissy easy downhill 'stay in the lodge and be warm' part of Hood...Timberline. Has anyone been up there this time of year? How is the snow? Is it worth it? The weather report lists showers...does it rain that high up or does that mean snow for them? I am thinking of taking my 10 year old up and neither of us are great skiiers and have never done any backcountry. So, this applies to the groomed runs etc... We're itching to go and were wondering if its worth the drive. Any beta would be helpful....and rude comments too, Dru We KNOW we're not REAL skiiers...we just wanna have fun and get the f*&^ outta dodge this weekend.
  11. ummm no... kinda but not realy. to me all things have a life cycle rotation. i buy a new rope and it is my lead rope...when it starts to get al mangy and i begin to wonder about it... it then becomes my top rope opnly rope, and i have to buy a new lead rope. if i feel i can't top rope on a rope any more then i will use it for non climbing things what sorts of non climbing things?
  12. Skis, boots, poles. Skins if you don't like to boot up 5000' of vert. Ice ax for the final push, maybe crampons. drC - The helpful answer guy Thanks Dear. See thread in Freshiez....
  13. Heh heh...I can lead up to 5.6 bolted depending on the route....but I doubt that would be of much use for my climbing partners...unless they're under 10 years old and total newbies
  14. I could do either...I need ot be back Sunday afternooon though. I'm flexible...the only problem is...I can't lead So if I go...I have to follow and clean.....Ahhh...the issues with being a damned newbie sometimes. (SIGH)
  15. this really will be your best bet to save bucks and the skis really don't matter because you will learn to ski whatever you have. (really!) i use "downhill" skis in both my AT and tele setups because those are the skis i wanted. sometimes i wish i had lighter skis on my AT setup but i just ended up with some beefy fat skis whereas i could have just bought lighter (downhill or "other") skis. still beats carrying my alpine gear around! I love shaped skiis...I used them this past year for the first time (took a couple of years off because of a blown acl) and they made all the difference. I've been skiing for 11 years (i didn't know it had been that long) and have never progressed to black diamonds. Those skiis and the control I had made me realize that I could totally do that now. Thanks for all the advice everyone...
  16. "Boy! Pants! Now!" "Look at the size of his heed! Its like an Orange on a Toothpick!" (said in a fake Scottish accent)
