  1. The main challenge is the weight to carry as usually you need glacier and some rock gear along with food for 5 days or so along with the normal hiking stuff. It is about 3000' up hannagan then you drop to the Chillawac then another 3000' up Easy Ridge. Then you drop at least 2000' to avoid the impass and back up to PP. You will not save much time doing it direct and from your description I would not advise it. The route up is class 3-4 but hard with the load. Then you traverse the CG which is not hard but unsafe unless roped. When we were there there was only one narrow path about 4' wide between deep holes. Otherwise you either had to climb Challenger (all but the Summit) or make another descent. Challenger Arm is nice but it is loose scree down to the Cirque with ice fall if you stay high like Beckey. Access Creek is brush below and more scree up high not technical but exposed and loose. As long as you are there you might as well do Luna as it is a walk up and near as high as Fury. Whatcom is also a scramble from PP.
  2. Two possibilities: 1. (most likely) They were ordered to take the pictures in order to cow other Iraqis into cooperator. 2. They were auditioning for the new reality show "Americas Dumbest War Criminals".

But Schrub said he is doing, "a superb job"
  4. Mt. Washington, Iron Horse and many climbs.
  5. The irregularities are already starting http://news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/ap/20040506/ap_on_re_us/florida_voter_rolls_1
  6. It may or may not be worse but, that doesn't really matter. Nobody is keeping score. Pictures like that undo any good that has been done. Perception beats reality 99 out of a hundred times. Those pictures are shown across the world over, over and over yet again until they become how others see us. It will take years to overcome if ever. Whatever moral authority we had is gone.
  7. Not so sure I saw tracks on Luna Pass here is a string from NW Wankers http://www.nwhikers.net/forums/viewtopic.php?t=4646

    fart machine

Worst was on a canoe trip when fish stopped biting. All that was left wad Falafel, Hummis and Tofu. The pain excruciating the only up side was to paddle to the middle of the lake in a full gale. It was truly a mighty wind.
  11. Nike watches are made by for a Japanese Company (Citizen) in China for importation and sale in the U.S. by a US sporting goods company (Nike). In contrast Suunto watches are made in China for a Finnish Company (Suunto) for importation and sale in the U.S. by a U.S. sporting goods company (Wilson).I got the Nike in North Bend for $100 2 years ago (after my Thommon got jacked) and like it but, you have to go to Nike to change the battery.
  12. The first Wilderness Act was passed in 1964 it did not mention bikes. The first repack race held in Marin County near Mt. Tam in 1976 is considered the start of Mountain Biking. Specialized came out with the Stumpjumper (first commercial mountain bike)in about 1982. I saw one on the route to Everest BC in 1983. Current WA passed in 1984 banned bikes mostly because most folks thought they were used by manics bombing fire roads (not found in Wilderness Areas anyhow)go figure.
  13. Do not know if these are "real peaks" or just long steep hikes but all have been done after work. Chair, Kaleeten, Red, Tooth, Silver, Tinkham, Teneriff(waterfall route), Defiance, Kendall, Humpback, Guye, Rampart ridge,Snoqualmie, and Putrid Pete's You end up walking out in the dark is all .
  14. Google search shows none with many articles complaining about his lack of attendance. More importantly right wing sources Newsmax, Fox try to shift the subject and SURPRISE blame Clinton. History news network summarizes all prexys http://hnn.us/articles/1784.html

    Sad

Yeah it is sad, but he was doing what he wanted to do with no regent, just like someone who gets the chop from rockfall or fate. Sad but not tragic. Of course the media play it up like he is JC.
  18. Christians destroyed much of the art of Rome, Greece, Egypt and many other places. Islam that of Constantinople, Iberia, Indonesia, and Afghanistan as you mentioned. Did Buddhists destroy anything? I do not know. What if anything does it mean? Only that all religions do not respect others, so what else is new? Please distinguish between Mogols and Mongols. One were Orentals who advanced from asoa to te gates of Europe qnd the other went from the wesr into India where they adopted Islam.

    burning stuff

You need Fuel and oxidant, Propane works fine as fuel a bit of KClO3 Potassium Clorate or salt peter will do the job if you can't get Lox (liquid oxygen). Sorry for your loss, If you are uncomfortable with these materials it may be best to consult a professional, as above.
  20. Arabs did not exist at that time. If you mean since the rise of Islam, the state of the Arab people in ce 900 was were much more advanced than Western Europe who were living in hill forts. Of course India and the Chinese were much more advanced, but who wasn't? Turkey was Byzantine til the 15th Century, and is barely a democracy now sorry difficulties with the interface, refugee from NWwankers
  21. Much of the middle east was indeed domonatd by the greeks. Ptolemeys in Egypt Bahlbeck in Leabonon later Rome via Augustas nee Octavius. No decent Gyros though.
