  1. Yup, beacon, shovel, probe. I'm committed on Sunday, but other than that I'm available.
  2. I'm back in the PNW, kind of located in the Portland area, but I mostly live out of my truck and a storage unit in La Grande. I've got some backcountry skiing experience (sidecountry, really), took my Avy 1 a couple of years ago (need a refresher). I'm basically looking to do some BC skiing and ease my way into climbing/skiing some volcanoes in the PNW. I'm in good shape, just lacking some technical skills the more badass folks on this forum might have. Anybody?
  3. I guess I should add that this is going to be a low frequency event for me. Maybe 6-7 times this summer. It's for a fire crew I'm going to be on. I weigh in at around 140# so this is going to be a lot of weight for me. Basically I'm trying to avoid actually carrying that much weight while training to save my knees, back, etc. But I still be able to do it when the time comes. I'm currently doing lots of running, 3, 2 hour sessions in the gym a week and out hiking once or twice a week with weight. I'm thinking 70 pounds is a good weight to train with and attack the rest of it with weight training. I'd like to enter the season healthy.
  4. I'm looking for some ways to train to pack 100+ pounds 3-6 miles in varied terrain. The obvious solution is to start packing around weight and add onto it until I get up to my desired weight. I can only really get out and hike once or twice a week, so what are my options? Has anyone trained for this before? Any sort of cross training with weights that might be good? Obviously I can strap a pack tp my back and get on the treadmill at the gym but I'm looking for other ways to approach the problem.
  5. I'd like that Simmerlite if it is still available. ebabb1 <at> gmail.com
  6. Crew from my forest got dispatched there this afternoon so it will probably be going for awhile. As for the closures: they have to close the road when a chopper with a bucket flys over (we don't want to have the pilot pickle the bucket on some gumby's head), at the most you might wait one fule cycle for the chopper (1 hour or so depending).
  7. New Lowa Struktura GTX Size 8.5 Goretex lace-up liners Never used, still in the box $160 + Shipping (or pickup/dropoff in SeaTac) Email @ ebabb [at] u.washington.edu
  8. Wrongo. You's gots to shell out some extra ducets for da kayaking shizzle. Thats the kayaking club, run by students, not the IMA if I recall correctly. Also, alot of the IMA stuff is payed for by revenue generated by the athletic department.
  9. I consistantly see cops on I-90 through Issaquah, both directions. There is a State Patrol office in Bellvue. There is also a construction zone in Issaquah right now and I think they like to cover it well. Tickets double. Watch yourself coming down the hill there.
  10. Thanks guys, I'm going to pick up a pair.
  11. Still have it? It works right? Is this a decent replacement for my portable CD player which is about to die on me?
  12. How do these bindings hold up to regular skiing? I was thinking of getting a pair on sale. I was going to use them as an everyday touring, yo-yo sort of setup. I'm not a huge guy so I don't need a high DIN binding, I'm usually running a 7 and releasing when I want. I'm 5'8" and 140 pounds so I'm not the kind of person who can strap on heavy gear and expect to make it through the day. I thought about Dynafit but that would neccessitate new boots, a luxury I can't afford right now. "Buy Freerides" comments are appreciated but these are cheap.
  13. Still need a lift? I could hit Stevens tommorrow (Thursday) instead of Alpental...
