  1. Hi all, this is Kristin with TPL. Matt is correct, as with most land acquisition projects, the deals are complex and there is hardly ever one funding source. I'm sorry the article in the Seattle PI didn't acurately capture the amazing grassroots fundraising that has taken place. I'm hoping this e-mail will convey my sincere "THANK YOU" to all who contributed and made this project a success. You know who you are!! Just to recap: The $226,000 needed to purchase the property is secure and we'll be buying the property next week. We needed to raise $20,000 for a stewardship endowment to go towards the Chelan Douglas Land Trust - $11,647 in gifts and pledges has been raised from 150 donors. Our goal was $8,500 by April 28. I'm very happy to say we've exceeded the goal. Some of you have asked if donations are still being accepted and the short answer is yes. TPL still needs to raise about $5,000 to complete the stewardship endowment, and we're counting on a grant from the Access Fund. However, the Fund doesn't meet until June to review the proposals. As always, feel free to call me with any questions (541) 382-2092. And again "THANK YOU" for your support, contributions, kind words and creative fund raising techniques.
  2. A BIG "Thank You" from the folks at the Trust for Public Land (TPL) to all those who have donated to this project, and are considering donating. The response in such a short period of time has been great. We ARE going to buy this property!
  3. The area is known as Goat Dome, accessed via the Snow Lakes Trailhead. It is on private land, and the landowner would like to sell the property to The Trust for Public Land (TPL). In turn, TPL will convey the property to the Forest Service. But first, the Forest Service must discuss the project with the Chelan County Commissioners. We are asking folks to send support letters to Commissioner Keith Goehner (rep for that district). If you would like specific language please e-mail me at tele4peace@yahoo.com and I can send you a draft letter. Many thanks!
  4. Dear Climbers, I'm working on a project (currently being used by rock climbers) in Icicle Canyon and need some feedback. I work for a land conservation organization, and am in the process of working with the private owner to purchase the property, which will then be converted into public land. Before this can be done, the Chelan County Commissioners must approve the process (something I am told could be met with opposition). I'm organizing a letter writing campaign, supporting the public acquistion of this parcel. If you are interested, or want to learn more, please let me know. I could really use your help. Thanks in advance!
