  1. More power to all these kids. Probably safer than riding a bike. go for it. e
  2. OK Pindude, I did buy used approximately 10 years ago, but still seems like valid gear (?) OK, I will update with some AT. You do know me too well! e
  3. I am ready to sell all my ski gear and convert. Good video. e
  4. SAR membership cards should be good for a free drink every night.
  5. Sobo, and all the rest of you out there who volunteer to put your lives on hold for the benefit of the rest of us, I want you to know that your efforts and willingness do not go unnoticed. I, for one, fully recognize the sacrifice that you make for the benefit of your fellow mankind. I appreciate you, and I know that others do too. THANK YOU! Eric
  6. nice friendly site rockclimbergirl. Wondering what type of law you practice? vikingclimber.com
  7. I live for Erden’s updates! It seems that the only adventure in my life right now is living vicariously through Erden. What an adventure. As he currently suffers the lonliness, the frustration of going in circles, and the enduring rain; it merely reminds me that the tougher the journey the greater the spiritual reward at the end. While I certainly wish him a safe and successful journey, I do not wish him an easy one. Erden is certainly more alive right now than am I. I can only hope his is living every moment of this adventure in full spiritual awakening.
  8. In the words of Bill, "Good on ya" Joseph! Role model citizenship buddy. Eric
  9. I gotta tell you all, this is a great bunch of advice, and I am digesting every word. Much appreciated. I will come up with a plan in about a week and let you know how it all goes. Thanks all! Eric
  10. One often missed point is that the folks out there looking are the same folks who do these things for recreation.
  11. I have kids 8 and 9 years old, wanting to start them on the snow. Any thoughts whether to start with downhill, xross country, or a board? I would like to have them doing all three eventually, but what order should I start them? thoughts?
  12. I think the issue can be solved by discontinuing use of the “conclusory titles,” and merely stating the “explanatory facts.” Rather than applying a title like “FA,” “Developer;” perhaps one could merely list the facts: “Developed by MattP, FA by Sherri one week later.” Then people can make their own judgments. Merely my humble opinion.
  13. I don't climb "smith Rock," I climb the rocks at smith = the "smith rocks"
  14. Thanks for checking Bug, But with their constantly growing feet I would rather err large than small. Sounds like a hell of a deal though. Thanks
  15. Sorry to hear that spot. 4 months will have you out in the spring though. e
  16. Heck, they all work. If you don't have one of your fancy devices, put your rope through your ATC as though you were belaying someone, put a prusik above it, and you will probably live that way too. Good? Better? Best? Hell, they will all keep you alive.
  17. And you deserve an ego stroke sir. You have brought a lot of specialized wisdom to the board, and have at all times been willing to write long educated posts to help us noobs. I often said that cc.c should put your posts in a slightly larger font and darkly bolded to help convey the significance of what you were saying. Happy trails sir, SLC will be a better place with you there. Eric
  18. As I sit here enduring another day of working indoors, it kills me to see the nice wake-up bivi photo. I am living wrong! e
  19. My fatherhood “awakening” came up in the Adament Range as I was chased across a glacier @ 10,000 ft by a lightening storm as we were dismantling the high camp. It eventually caught up with us, and the only reason we lived is pure luck. During that storm there was little we could do to effect our live/die chance, my death was beyond my “control”. I thought about my babies, knowing that no amount of skill or effort could now save their father, and that I did not have the right to put myself there. I have given up most mountaineering, but still leave open the option. Purely a personal choice. I don’t mess with weather, avalanche, or herds of people above me; as they are dangers that I cannot control. With that said, I like rock climbing because it seems that my live/die chances remain in my skill and attentiveness, and I like to “control” my fate. There is a much less chance of being surprised by weather, as most that I do now is single day. Purely personal choice.
  20. Well Sherri-doll, Red Rocks is my favorite place in the world, and the Mgear event is a beautiful thing... Regretfully, I have sold my soul to the 9-5 working world for one year and cannot make it. I get two weeks vacation this year, and have two babies to spend them with over the summer. Know that it will be killing me to hear the RR stories as I set here doing jail visits and spending afternoons in windowless court rooms. love to you! e
  21. Nice story Bill. I love the tunnel vision climb, except for one small area. There is a friction area about the top of the second pitch or mid third pitch, depending on how you link them up. Short friction area that I have not been able to protect well. Last time up I was on follow and found myself mid air off the friction, without any warning that I was going to fall. I imagined how that fall would have been had I been on lead, and pictured myself bouncing around a bunch. The climb has held my Zen hostage since. Eric
  22. Score! Nice find, I may try to see if I can locate it. You say you walked up the road for 15-20, was it then visible from the road?
