  13. Hello- The New Years has just past and many of you started it off by making New Year’s resolutions. Your resolutions will involve family, friends, money, fitness, or your secret goal to rip a 360 front flip grab but in your heart of hearts you made a resolution to volunteer. You may not remember making this resolution (too much wine perhaps) or even thought about making this resolution but I know deep down inside you've resolved to help the Friends of the Northwest Weather & Avalanche Center. Well here's your chance fulfill your New Year’s Resolution!!!! We are looking for people to volunteer for Vertfest 2013. Vertfest will be two days this year (Feb 16th and 17th) so your chances are doubled to fulfill your New Year’s “obligations”. Here are the roles I'm currently looking for: Gatekeeping: Gatekeepers will need to be at Alpental ski area at 745am (building TBA). Basically your job will be making sure all the racers are safe, play by the rules, and make sure everyone goes through their gate. Expect to be busy for 4-8hrs (depending on the gate you are working) Set Up: These people will need to show up at Alpental at 630am and will focus on stage and vendor set up. Since you’ll be done by 8ish, this is a great opportunity for those who want to race AND help out. You’ll get to kill two resolutions at once. Take Down: We won’t need these people until Feb 17th around 6pm (exact time TBA). You’ll help with breaking down the stage. If you'd like to volunteer please contact me at jeremyp@outdoorresearch.com Looking forward to hearing from you.

  16. Trip: Exfoliation Dome - Snake Charmer Date: 9/30/2012 Trip Report: Decided to check out the new route on Witch Doctor Wall. I'll let the excellent topo explain the approach and pertinent info. Here are my thoughts/photo's: Pitch 1: Not bad we trundled off some more blocks so it's even better now. Pitch 2: The start is super dirty still and super memorable. The climbing gets a lot more fun at the layback at the top. Pitch 3: Fun layback moves followed by some dirty stuff. Will be even more fun once it's gets a full washing this winter Pitch 4: Money pitch and probably one of my favorites this season. Super fun 5.11 moves followed by a 10+ corner that's really fun Pitch 5: My second favorite pitch. Climb flacks to a couple of unexpected and fun bolted slab moves Pitch 6: We pass on the 6th 5.10 pitch and opted to take 5.easy scramble to the rap chains. The last pitch is still super dirty and we weren't in the mood for dealing it. This begin said the run is super cool there (with dykes running all through it similar to Squamish) and could be fun after through clean session. Overall this climb was awesome, it just needs a nice hard rain to clean some of the dirty off it. I'd definitely suggest this climbing someone looking for an obscure 5.10ish route with easy access and low commitment (due to the bolted repels). The only suggestion I might make is to use double ropes as the first two pitches wonder a little bit. Here are the picture and video of me trundling and incessantly dropping the f-bomb . Photo's/Video Gear Notes: I might suggest doubles but can be done with 1 70m Approach Notes: Fairly easy. Follow the topo
  17. Here's a picture of the offending rock fall(big white scare in the center left). If anyone heads up there in the next couple of weeks. I left some gear on the first pitch and would love to get it back. Otherwise, I'll be heading out there with a friend on the 30th to access the damage (if any) and hopefully finish the route.

  21. The Washington Climbers Coalition needs sweet photo's for our website and marketing material. Our need is your chance to get sweet gear provided by Petzl. Here's how it works: Submit your photo to Jeremy at jpark1199@gmail.com with the Subject Line: WCC Photo Contest Submissions will be taken through May 21st and we will be upload to Facebook on May 22nd. Photo's will be on our webpage for people to LIKE until June 5th. The 1st, 2nd and 3rd place photo's with the most LIKEs will win gear provided by Petzl. Now for some rules and regulations (yeah for the fine print!!!): *Photo's must be of climbs in Washington State *Submissions must have location and climb name provided *Unfortunately we cannot except mountaineering submissions at this time (All submissions must involve some sort of bouldering, trad, sport climbing, or rock in the photo) *As much as we love butt shots (at least I know I do) please keep them to minimum *Please keep it classy Washington (If you've got to think about whether or not a photo is "classy" then you probably shouldn't submit it) *Only one submission per person ( If more than one is submitted, I'll post the nicest one of the bunch) *Watermarks are OK *By submitting your photo, you agree to allow the Washington Climbers Coalition to use your photo's for marketing purposes (Don't worry we won't sell your photo's where just looking for some sweet photo's for our webpage and marketing) *The WCC reserves the right to disqualify photo's dependent on content i.e. if it isn't classy or if we get a ton of butt shoots we won't post it Questions? Contact Jeremy at jpark1199@gmail.com
