  1. Those REXs are incredibly sexy. Though be careful, once you put Dynafits on them women will swarm you in droves. This may make it hard to go skiing.
  2. And in California! In fact the passes you buy here are cheaper then if you bought them in Cali. You can get them at that gas station in Sandy--the prominent one in downtown Sandy that faces you as you drive up. I forget if it's a 76 or an Exxon.
  3. I recommend: http://www.portlandfrontrunners.org/club_info.htm I'm just joking . . . :-) More seriously, see: http://www.runwithpaula.com The scheduled runs are actually the Portland Running Company runs, Paula co-owns PRC with her hubby. Paula use to actually lead a "running club" group at ClubSport, ah those were the days . . .
  4. Barker do you mean Sat or Sunday? Sunday at Meadows there were a few inches on new in wind-sheltered and leeward areas, everything else was bulletproof. Relative to the past 8 weeks, in the right spots it really wasn't that bad though the rain runnels were pretty interesting. When you say "shuttle Alpine", do you mean the Alpine trail that runs to Government Camp? Does Timberline operate a shuttle from Govy to Tline? Thudman in the "powder" yesterday:
  5. Yes exactly, that's what I tell everyone.
  6. I woke up to this: Mt. Hood Meadows Won’t Open This Weekend Lifts will not operate Saturday or Sunday, December 11 or 12 MT. HOOD, OR (December 11, 2004) – Talk about raining on your parade. Opening weekend at Mt. Hood Meadows has been postponed because of the considerable amount of rain Mt. Hood has received the past few days. Mt. Hood Meadows has suspended lift operations for both Saturday, December 11 and Sunday December 12. A pending opening will be determined on a day-to-day basis. Resort Vice President and General Manager Dave Riley says, “We did everything we could to try to open, but the steady rain we received over the past two days just saturated the snow. If we can’t offer a quality product, then there’s no sense in opening the lifts. We feel badly, both for our guests who can’t wait to start the season, and for our staff members who really want to come to work. However, we maintain our optimism – history shows that Mt. Hood – will receive a considerable amount of snow.”
  7. That for posting the article. My favorite lines were, "until further notice, our guests should stay on the groomed runs". And, "anyone who leaves the groomed trails could expose themselves to hazards". Here's another great gaperish line, '"It surely put some snow down," Lomax said. "But the trade-off of having to clear the trees will outweigh the benefits of getting snow delivery."'
  8. But but but . . . what about their performance in wet, heavy snow? They freakin' rock even if you're not going fast. Reviewing skis is kind of like reviewing MILFs, highly subjective.
  9. Wow! SIcknesssss indeed. If it ever stops raining I'm going to get some of that super sick nordic skating action over there, your Nordic center is about the most badass thing in Oregon--especially the area called "Yubbie corner".
  10. The REXs (aka 10EXs, TMEXs, MEXs and TM:Xs) completely rock. I'm about the same dimensions as you (me: 5'8" and 155) and have the 177s. I don't think they're too stiff, they really do great in heavy snow--they don't get deflected at all. Iain also has REXs which I heard he skis with Denalis. For $350 I'd get them, I sort of wish I had another pair with Dynafits on them for BC.
  11. Checklist for Saturday: Pass - Check Boots - Check Baked liners - Check Skis - Check Scrap wax of skis - Check Poles - Check Whippet in case I see David Reliy - Check Helmet - Check Chocolate Almonds - Check Iain's HH Tape – Check Extra adipose tissue to keep me warm - Check Motivation to ski a resort instead of BC – Hmm, not sure
  12. Wow - there's something steep enough on Bachy to slide? Please do spill the details GT!
  13. Thanks for that detailed response. I plan to go trade my running shoes for a bike right now.
  14. Neither. I just take ecstasy pills for joint pain, the higher MDMA concentration the better. I've heard it works great for relieving boredom at bivys too!
  15. Yeah . . . you guys may have cardio equipment now, but you're still not surrounded by MILFs when you use it
  16. I had more before my gf left me: I agree it is pathetic
  17. ew ew ew a quiver photo thread. let me go take a photo
  18. Hammerheads: - Step out of bindings - Dig thru pack to find leatherman - Spend 10 minutes trying to adjust 1 pivot point - Get one done then slip with the tool and cut yourself - Dig thru pack for bandaid - Apply bandaid - Spend another 10 minutes adjusting the other pivot point - Repeat 2 more times for the other ski - Curse at Gaper Jeffey for selling you Hammheads - Spend 10 minutes stepping into binding - Attach leashes - Notice you forget to take skins off - Step out of binding - Notice you forget to take leashes off - Detach leashes - Remove skins - Spend 10 minutes stepping into biding and attaching leashes again - Notice the pivot points on the right ski are a in a different position then the pivots on the other ski - Step out of ski then repeat above steps Yes, I'm being sarcastic.
  19. Doesn't crossing a few of the ridges involve some pretty spicy climbing? Didn't I hear a rumor you did it in mtn boots?
  20. No one chooses to ride a splitboard because of its efficiency, they choose because they like snowboarding as a method of descent. It's pretty much the same with tele, despite what some hippie with bad hygiene may tell you. The most efficient setup is randonnee. The French are always right!
  21. I agree. I do not run to keep in shape, I run because I find it fun and therapeutic (how else am I suppose to deal with lack of snow trauma?).
