  1. Luckily for you, you really only have two choices: The Garmont MegaRides The Scarpa Matrixes I have the MegaRides. I like them. I generally only use them in the BC, for the resorts I use a pair of Adrenalins. Dynafit will be coming out w/ a 4 buckle Dynafit compatible boot next year, though Lief, the owner of the 5th Season in Shasta skied them and was under-impressed stating they skied poor and didn't yield any more performance then the 3 buckle Aero. Everyone has a different idea of what aggressive skiing is, in my mind if you're really pushing it at the resorts (which I don’t do) you'll probably want an Adrenalin, or whatever Scarpa’s new interchangeable boot is, or an Alpine boot.
  2. TGR just about always delivers the goods, the problem is keeping up with the shear volume of posts. Take a look at some of the TRs, they are insane.
  3. http://www.tetongravity.com/forums/showthread.php?t=29815 My truck is in the Tahoe house photo Punani posted.
  4. Where (if anywhere) is Cloud Cap rd gated right now and when will it be open all the way? And -- if you are thinking about suggesting I call the USFS, do not suggest that, instead call them yourselves and report back. Thank you.
  5. What are we going to do this summer? We are going to suffer! I plan on making turns every month this year regardless of how unpleasant it is.
  6. Hmm, I wouldn't quite characterize the South rib as "quite steep". If you have intermediate skiing skills I think you'll be fine. Maybe you mean the SW Chutes? The SW Chutes are a step up but they really aren't that steep either. Has anyone measured them? I think the average angle is around 35 degrees, it's just they're sustained so it seem steeper. Here's a photo looking down them: I do believe it's good to error on the side of caution when giving route advice online, though classifying the South rib as "quite steep" seems really off. As always YMMV.
  7. Dress as close to naked as possible. Use Dynafits, super light skis and light boots. However you'll probably just use whatever gear you have -- and that's fine Sounds like a good plan and certainly regardless of what happens you most likely will. I posted a few tips to a similiar thread on TTips. That was right before someone suggested growing a 3rd lung, or since you don't have time to do that, just stealing one from a non-smoker. Anyway my tips: - Get into your Dynafits quickly - If there's one skin track, go out fast so you don't get stuck behind someone slower then you. - Get behind F1 girl to admire her arse - Pass F1 girl so she can admire your arse - Have fast transitions - Don't inadvertently push your toe-lock forward when adjusting your heel height - Don't twist out of your Dynafit toes - Know where you're going - The checkpoint might not be straight above the bootpack, especially when there is no prior bootpack - Don't pre-release from your Dynafits From what I can tell (I've only done one rally) there's typically not many fast people in the rec divisions so you may do better then you expect. Make sure to go to the afterparty -- the raffles are fat.
  8. I usually just borrow Kasha's bikini wax and then I wake up . . .
  9. I imagine it's gated at it's start, but does anyone conclusively know? I'm considering earning some torture points back there soon.
  10. But there's more snow right now then there is in a *typical* August and September . . .
  11. Since there's not much snow, lets talk about the Teton Gravity Research forums. I'm sure most of us here also read TGR. One of the (many) things that contiounously impresses me about TGR is the creativity and vileness of the avatars. Here's one I just noticed today: http://www.tetongravity.com/forums/image.php?u=54&dateline=1088087377 (can't seem to make it an img link) Anyone else wish to point out other interesting TGR avatars?
  12. In November of 2002 while impressing the MILFs at Clubsport, I grabbed a thin hold at an awkward angle and my ring finger made a pop and gave up all strength. Being young and stupid (still am), I "climbed thru the pain" and continued climbing that day and that weekend before realizing I had really done some damage. I rested for a few months then tried off and on climbing but it was never pain free. Over 2 years later my finger is still not 100% and there have been several times I've almost fully re-injured it. I'm not that interested in climbing (especially in the MILF infested gym) anymore so I don't mind the injury except it does bother me sometimes when I swim (of all things!). I've been meaning to make an appointment with a hand specialist. Anyone know a good one in the Portland area?
  13. That's what tele skiing is for? I thought it was for trying to get a date with Kasha . . .
  14. So Iain, at the transitions how long will it take you to change your HH pivot points .

Hmm I'm not sure about the pontoon attachments. But I know that with the quality of my tires we can drive STRAIGHT UP the WyEast face!
  16. Doesn't a lackluster early season mean we'll have a big end of season/early spring?

I've sorta grown tired of Meadows. I've only been there once since they turned on the lifts--and I'm even a passholder.

Yes and it was sunny and warm up high. I got a nice tan. Clouds below: And blue sky up high with Thudman turning: Thudman again: Going into the clouds: And on the Alpine trail back to the car: It ened up being a waayyyyy better day then we expected.
  20. The recent discussions about randonnée rallys prompted me to call Jeremy @ the Mountain Shop to confirm rumors about a rally on Mt Hood. Jeremy told me that he and several others are working with the ski patrol director at Mt Hood Meadows to put on a rally April 9th. It sounds definite that the event will happen and they are printing posters this week. There would likely be two divisions, a race and a recreation division akin to the life-link series. The courses have not yet been determined and they're considering several options, the most interesting of which--and this is completely preliminary--would be skinning to the top of Vista, descending into White River canyon (which is out of MHM's permit area), climbing back to MHM's permit area, descending into Heather canyon, bootpacking back out and presumably descending to the finish at MHM's main base area. This would be a very exciting course, and even if this exact course isn't able to be pulled off, I'm sure based on those who are putting it on it'll be an excellent event. I'll bump this post when I get more details and when a registration form becomes available. It's important this event gets a good attendance so it'll continue to be held and we grow the sport. You don't need to be fast (I'm not) nor on rando gear to participate and have a good time. I usually buy almost all my gear online but with Mountain Shop putting on this event I'm going to start shopping there more. PS: Can one of the moderators make this a sticky. Thanks!
  21. At 4am in the morning the avg windspeed was 34MPH with gusts up to 75. http://www.nwac.us/~nwac/products/OSOALP
