Well, for one thing, we don't have a national language here....and for another, we've always welcomed immigrants with fairly open arms. In fact most of us descended from immigrants who may or may not have spoken English as their first language (mine didn't), it's just that we've been here longer than others.
Sure, it's frustrating to talk with someone who is not a native English speaker, and sure, most of us here in the USA are native English speakers, but heck, have a little patience and tolerance, and all will be well in the world.
