  1. Steve, the summit register is just about used up, time to get a new one up there. I plan on getting up there a few times this summer between EPIC staff and PLSAR so let me know if I can be of service..... downed tree is within 200ft of last switchback on road before it gets rough, very doable day trip even if it isn't removed. SOBO, its good to be out gettin some...first time out as papa, great partners. Nice work being Danes hero (and mine)!! Selkirks Rule!!!!
  2. quit bashing.... reminds of a little fable about a pot and a black kettle The fact that Dishman is mostly 5.hard, the turnout in support for this crag has been small, by Minni clean-up standards. If these actions happened at Minni, You'd need the arena to hold the crowd and I think the crowd would be overwhelmingly against the 'sporto' ethic....go bolt up dihedral and see what happens.... Didn't you see the results of Dane's poll ?? Eric, we run in mostly the same circles and I don't know how you could think that there are more out there that condone this stuff. Like you I am also not pleased with the 'consensus' garnered for the chopping decision (though I think the actions taken were proper and restrained) Dane, the sportos beleived they were lured to the REI meeting under false pretenses and were angry and it is understandable(but not excusable)they would not show up for the clean up....maybe better communication would have helped that on your part. In that way, Eric is right. EC, you claim to appoint equal responsibility here but your tone and charges are all leveled at Dane with only token criticism of the sportos. Dane has let the bolts stay for many months while he tried to stoke the fires to stir up interest in the crag....and a poll trying to find consensus. The sportos rebolted in just a few days Dane got all interested parties together to at least attempt to build consensus. One or two sportos simply put things back the way they like em Dane organized and gave of his own valuable free time to clean the place up, giving something to the crag instead of just taking from it (to me that is what ownership is all about...investing in a place not just 'using' it. The sportos didn't bother to help with any clean-up Most importantly, Dane has consulted the land-owners on what their wishes for THEIR property to be. Did the sportos consult before they bolted/chopped or rebolted ?? Equal, I think not. While not perfect, one side has acted far more responsibly here than the other and I think it just shows your bias to not recognize that ! and to Roadstead....you excuse the sportos for being too busy out climbing to help clean-up....don't you think all those clean-up folks would rather have been out climbing also ?!!? btw thanks for all your hard work out at McLellan, I love the place once the skeeters die. Dane, thanks for your stand and your efforts. - Kevin Klim, an appreciative Spokane climber who doesn't want to see Minni 'fixed' like Dishman was.
  3. I just had the surgery for tear repair this past April and have recovered nicely altough there is still some slight swelling at the scope entry points (I was doing some moderate rock climbing within 4 weeks). I'm no doc but what was said to me is that meniscus rarely heals itself which is why the surgery is to cut unstable sections and suck them out. That is what was done for me. I really don't know how I got the tear, I have always had some 'instability' in that knee and think I have had the tear for a while. A year ago I developed a bakers cyst at the point of the tear and that cyst was aweful painful. It was only the cyst that led to the diagnosis of the tear(MRI). Doc said I could just have the cyst drained but it would keep coming back as long as the tear was present (which tells me I could have kept on going with the tear without totally destroying my knee - like to think doc would have warned me of that) But, with the experience of the last poster, it is probably different for us all depending on the nature and position of the tear (mine was horizontal/uncommon). Good luck with your knee and have fun when you get here !!
  4. So was gas gassing the kurds!! Saddam gets his judgement day on c-span, Marty on cc.com Did you miss the poll ?!?!? from INClimbs "Main Crack 5.4. It's been ten years since you started at Mini. You've top roped and top roped and top roped some more. Finally you're ready. You put on your shoes and chalk bag and walk up the ramp. There's a hush amongst the awe struck spectators as you begin to free solo Main Crack. You actually make it to the top ! You're a Mini god now ! It comes somplete with, a toady entourage, and a permanent appointment at the busiest time each day to drive to Mini and solo Main Crack for the rest of your life" If that is not looking down your nose at low end climbers then what is ? Marty, thanks for the book. It has helped me find my way around the crags. I appreciate your hard work on the book and the routes you have left for me to climb. If the second edition leaves out the personal insults of good men, I'll give it another star.... but best ever, I think not. I have never seen another guide book with such personal dishing....would we really be LUCKY to have more ?!!!!
  5. I just had the surgery this past April 20. I gimped around without crutches for day 1 and 2....pain and swelling was worst days 3,4 and needed pain pills and crutches. Because I felt no pain day 1 and 2, too much activity on my part probably made the swelling worse days 3,4 so keep her off of her feet even if she feels she can get around !!! Things got progressively better after that and I was out mowing my lawn with a slight limp by 26th. The doc gave me the ok on the 28th to start workin it, so that weekend (2wks post) i was kickin steps up at Alpental for 1/2 mile or so. Got back on rock for the first time May 19th (1 month...although I felt I could have sooner) and last weekend (5 1/2 wks) went up Liberty Bell and had no problem with the approach or the rock. I'm not a patient guy, but think I did good for not too fast or not too slow recovery. The doc said at only 2 days of pain pills needed, I was at the low end of the pain spectrum though and also I had a horizontal tear instead of a vertical tear which is much more common....so probably a lot of variation for folks. Good luck with it all. BTW my doc filmed mine and supplied a copy...cool to see what actually went on !
  6. I was a crack baby.....kind of slow
  7. Max, does it ever get old for you acting like a 15 year old...or is that how old you are ? Actually on second thought, maybe you are right. Maybe we should get rid of laws against rape and murder too. After all rapists and murderers only do that shit because of how they were treated by society, right. It's really our fault, we shouldn't judge them. Maybe we should grab a gun or a condom and join them ?!! After all it would be arrogant to assume our way is the right way and they are wrong. There are things WE could do right ? Instead of locking them up !! We could stay in our homes forever and ever....and keep our women in chastity belts ! I think I'm catching on to your point Max....Ninja Living. Max,I bet by now you're thinking , 'but catman, being loud ain't at all the same as rape or murder' .....and I'm thinking congratulations Max you're finally getting something right ! The point is it's all anti-social behavior. You see us humans (being social creatures and all) have a way of trying to get along when we form our little herds. So, when a bunch of folks are hanging out at a campsite doing their own thing and getting along, and some white trash parade shows up hootin and hollerin, blasting their quiet riot (I'm not talkin about dirt bag climbers throwin a few back...got no problem with them), THEY are the ones with the problem, NOT the rest of the folks getting along with each other. It's not that anyone has a right to silence anymore than anyone has a right to be loud....it's just a matter of getting along !! Of course if you show up on a concert weekend, you get what you deserve....thats is the social norm to be loud on those nights. By the way, I was out there 3 weekends ago and met a local climber type who was telling me the local police have responded to a few calls out there lately with loud guys actually calling the cops because other campers there were throwin that lovely sharp Vantage rock at them and mussin up the lovely paint jobs on their 68 GTO's !! Yah baby...power of the people !!! Rise up and unite !!! Maybe that's the answer to shut people up, think of it only a few victims would be needed and just the word of mouth would keep the trash out....wish I had thought of that. So, Max if you're not ready to get rid of your Poison tapes and get along, you should at least make sure you've got a good comprehensive policy on your veyuckle. Man, I was havin a bad day, but now I'm all warm and fuzzy inside...thanks Max.
