  1. I was in at Park meadow today, which is damn near Golden Lake and we hit a lot of snow still lingering in the trees...like feet of snow. Also, i was up on B-choss a couple weeks ago and the NW ridge route is completely snowfree; we saw guys doing it in shorts and hiking boots. I'd give it a go. probably no need for crampons or axe though.
  2. I'm in too. Someone let me know if we're carpooling or what and i'll be there. I did that mountain the first time when i was 11... time to go back.
  3. I'm heading out that way for work sometime later this week, so i'll see what kind of info I can dig up from da man. I talked to a campground attendant today out at Tam Rim and he didn't mention anything going on...
  4. can't make it this week. i'm working on selling my car tomorrow night. next week might be in though; maybe i can get some root !
  5. i'd really be in...but i'm still about 6 weeks from legality. damn the man. I'm in during August though...
  6. Ckouba...what a great trip. Going back to work was such a hard thing to do come this morning! I really don't have a lot more to offer about the TR, but do the route now because it's in really fun shape! 7. Nice TR. I led a group of 6 that managed to find your super-secret meadow campsite on Sunday morning...the secret's out. It was quite a nice little spot down there. I bet that Becky was so glad to see us around 8am, because we got a heck of a rise out of the watchdogs. what a hoot. no more for her! We were also fortunate enough to catch a glimpse of the plabfest in action when I spotted you two coming down SS. Did you guys make 2 runs that day? I got a photo of 2 people coming off the same area sometime that afternoon... the weather that day just !! you didn't happen to see us up on the W. Face of B-choss, did ya?
  8. the 242 road is half plowed to allow for the snowmelt to go somewhere. the gates are still closed. Access from the Pole Creek area, for middle and north sisters, is still shaky from what i hear. there are lots of blown down trees and snow everywhere. it makes a really good ski outting right now. There should, however, be a good boot track in there as there were tons of people in there during the last few weekends. here's a pic of the middle sister area taken on 6/8/2003 from Broken Top: http://www.cascadeclimbers.com/plab/showphoto.php?photo=1024
  9. i'd expect "lunar" photos only if i expected to ever see that camera again. it's probably already lost forever somewhere in that immense pile of choss. anyways, if it turns up...i'm sure that person would be more than willing to supply the
  10. Someone from our group lost a disposable camera on what could only be called the southern summit of Broken Top. It would be somewhere above the West face of the mountain, but not on the standard NW ridge route. PM me if you happen to come across it...
  11. b-rock... are you planning on doing the Sisters Marathon or just SS from north-south?
  12. yea, it sure looks like it. when gapertimmy gets back from Green Lakes tomorrow I'm sure he'll tell us all about it.
  13. With everyone I know being occupied this morning, i decided to head up to Bachelor for a nice little hike. The alarm sounded mighty early at 2:30, so I hit the snooze...more about that later. I headed out and got to the ski area at 4am. Under beautiful clear skies and stars, I hit the trail at 4:15--up the true wilderness that the mountain is. The snow was pretty icy though, I'm guessing from yesterday's rain, so the crampons went on. I passed the Pine Martin lodge at 4:55am. making pretty good time, but the sun was creeping up on me. I hit a little of rock above the lodge and debated about taking off the crampons, but sunrise was close and I wanted to be on the summit for it. The sun finally came up and I was less than 10 minutes from the summit...damn that snooze bar! I hit the summit at 5:45am. Plenty of photos were taken as the clouds were somewhat parted. I could only see north to Jeff and to the south I could kind of make out Thielson for a few minutes. Hung out for 45 minutes and had a breakfast consisting of trailmix, bananas, and snickers on top all by myself, there wasn't even another car in any of the parking lots--no surprise really. Headed down and was back at the car by 7:15am, a three hour trip. if only my snowboard wasn't in storage up north...oh what it could have been. it still though. a view of sunrise: http://www.cascadeclimbers.com/plab/showphoto.php?photo=888 and South Sister: http://www.cascadeclimbers.com/plab/showphoto.php?photo=889 Time to head off to Smiff...
  14. hmmm. this weekend? I already hiked up Bachelor this morning for sunrise. I think Smiffy's calling my name for the afternoon. Thielson is on the docket for tomorrow. work is going to be a welcome rest.
  15. Gapertimmy is correct. as of late last week most of the trailheads in the Deschutes forest were open, saw them for myself...Tam Mc is one of the few that was still closed. Hit up Pole Creek and go for it.
  16. I have spent a fair amount of time in my 2f's and i think they're pretty multifunctional if you have the anti-balling thingie on it. i even used them all winter on WI in Banff and didn't have any issues. they go anywhere. and as for them coming apart as was addressed earlier, i kind of like that if i want to stash them in my pack like that. takes up less space. I also have a pair of Light Machines that i use in the winter and they've served me well too. love the clearance. add the Liberty Leashes and it's a sweet system, in my opinion. I'm picking up an air tech racing axe this weekend because of it's light weight... that's my $.01
