when it comes to boxes I know erik is thinking of the UPS variety. He likes to think brown. hahaha.gif

What can Brown do for me today?

Keep it's streaks off my undies.

Come early in the morning with nice texture.

  2. Swedish bowline for me (bowline with a clove hitch) - I can think of several advantages over the figure-of-eight:

    1. Easier to untie after loading

    2. the tail is pointed towards you and out of the way for short clipping

    3. Its an adjustable knot

    4. When you untie, there is no additional knot to undo before pulling the rope (it sux getting "half" an 8 locked at the anchors)

    5. There is no "wrong" way to do the Swedish bowline, unlike the fig 8 where the threading can get mucked.

    6. It freaks the proctors at the REI pinnacle out hahaha.gif

Occasionally, something wonderful arises (ahem) from some worthless crap. Thank you, Skisports, although I board. thumbs_up.gif

30 ft on Barbed for Your Pleasure at Vantage. A cam pulled and I fell onto a solid hex. Despite what the "experts" say about cams being the best pro for vantage, I still like to get in a hex, where I can. I missed two broken ankles by about a foot. A hex might have saved Goran's bacon.

Yeah, but the cowbells are a bitchkitty to clean after a fall on them-small price to pay for solid protection, but not advisable if one falls a lot and is also in a hurry... wave.gif

  5. Yah, there's some good bouldering out by Sisters, I have heard, but the locals are pretty tight-lipped about it... wazzup.gif

The cave just SE of town is fun, but I don't know if it is closed for bouldering or not.

There are some nice boulders with perfect landings on a golf course, but that's DEFINITELY closed to bouldering hahaha.gif

There's plenty of old, bold climbers. Whitaker's full of it. Tackle, Donini, Blanchard, Guy Laculle, etc, etc. I don't think soloing is as much about thinking I'm so good this won't happen to me as it is about not really thinking at all. Its about getting in the zone and letting the left side of the brain take over.

Also, the older you get and survive, the more tuned the experiences make you. Mastery, as it were.

A healthy dose of good luck and strong will seems to be crucial to the mix as well.

You know those lame license plate holders that say something like, "I'd rather be playing golf"

I'm sure we can come up something way better than that. I'm going for "I'd rather be shagging in a portaledge"
