  1. You are a pathetic moderator, JayB. Someone posts footage of unarmed people being executed and your only contribution is nearly a dozen off-topic inflamatory trolls. Thank you for posting this, GGK. I was just discussing this with someone who is visiting from China and he downplayed the violence, so I forwarded him this video. It should help to stir up our next discussion. Given the interdependent nature of global capitalism it is conceivable that certain inducements could make calming the violence at the border (along with other oppressive policies of the Chinese government) part of the Chinese government's best interest.
  2. Do you use this for day trips, extended, or both? Looks like a cool pack: 99,50 Euros
  3. Anyone interested in climbing in the WA Pass/Mazama area tomorrow? I'm coming from the Diablo area so I would prefer to stay in the vicinity, but I could probably be persuaded to meet up in Darrington for those coming from Puget Sound.
  4. Check out this forecast for Index: Thursday: Sunny and warm Don't worry about the source, it's legit.
  5. If anyone is interested in dodging the rain Wednesday or Thursday, send me a pm. I'm thinking Index, Leavenworth, or Mazama/WA Pass. I'll be staying in Diablo both nights, so if you are coming from the Seattle area we'll have to meet at the crag. Cheers, Joe
  6. Is there anyone between Monroe and the Leavenworth area that would be willing to lend me their L'worth guidebook for the weekend? I have a copy but it is currently 2,000 miles away. I'll provide a six pack of for your troubles. Cheers, Joe
  7. 12.93 kN is still strong enough, no? Aren't most cam slings rated at about 16 kN?
  8. Is this true for the North Cascades National Park as well? It seems to me they do a pretty good job of keeping the area rugged and remote, and are pretty supportive of climbing (unless you sacrafice a piece of devil's club to the climbing gods ), and on many occasions have saved our asses when things go wrong. The visitor center is pretty low impact as well. Perhaps the Cascade Pass parking lot or the Ross Lake Recreation area may fit your description? If so, considering the other 98% of the park is designated wilderness I don't think they try to attract too many of the people you describe. Then again, it is one of the least visited national parks in the country (thankfully).

i'll be back on may 31st!
  10. Does anyone else see the irony here? No, do you have a link?
  11. you're slipping: Us here at the PC base couldn't figure out what "hegemenonic" was, otherwise you would have gotten the fourth wisdom yoda.

  13. Great contribution, JayB. This is pretty much on par for you: an emotional response, essentializing rhetoric, with some reductivism thrown in for good measure. Us militants here on the PC base have really gained a lot from your constant wisdom. Your post gets four wisdom Yoda's (out of a possible four, so that's good work):
  14. You are right, but I was responding to the comment that the country was "founded on immigrants." At that time I know of no Africans that were here other than through slavery.
  15. Although your statement is well intentioned (I believe), it is not true. Africans did not immigrate here; they were brought against their will and forced into slavery. In the process of coming through the "Middle Passage" MILLIONS died of disease, dysentery, starvation, or were simply thrown off the ship into the Atlantic. I would hardly call this immigration; sounds more like genocide to me. But that's "water under the bridge," right?
  16. how's that working out for you?
  17. I am going to be cragging at Mt. Lemmon next week and was wondering what type of rack to go down there with. I am thinking of climbing at Castle Rock and the North Fin. Are there enough gear belays that would require doubling up? Is a single 60m rope sufficient? Is there a certain type of pro that works better than others? Thank you. Joe

  19. We are approaching the 20 hour mark; I'm calling the police.
  20. I will be in Tucson in March and am hoping to connect with a partner to climb at the Cochise Stronghold. I can climb any time between March 14th through the 17th, and am looking to do some of the longer classics. If anyone will be down there at this time and wants to climb send me a pm. Joe
