Looks like we got a CC party out there. Letsroll and myself will be headed out tomorrow unless it's still pouring rain. He camped up there last night and was gonna go in this morning, but it's really wet. 3-5" of new snow about 5500 ft. The SE ridge will sluff as soon as it warms up. Thayer is out due to avy danger as well. I'm sure the Hayden will be fine, just warmed up powder. We're most likely gonna avoid the slog to Camp Lake and camp at the base of Hayden, much easier and you just climb up and over Middle to do the SE ridge. see you out there. Oh yeah, if you have clearance you can make it to the TH. If not you can get within 1+ mile before you hit the snowdrifts. I punched through with a Suburban this morning. Super wet and shitty up there right now. JL JL

Obviously tons of ice climbing, even though the Bozeman area has better ice lines. For rock take your pick Blodgett Canyon- numerous multi pitch, some free some mixed aid/free. Mulky Gulch/Rattlers Gulch- limestone fins, mostly sport Kootenay Canyon- mixed sport/trad crag Bass Creek- mini sport crag Lolo Pass area- lots of granite domes, sport/trad, cool setting. And numerous other crags within 1 hour drive. JL

You must have inside knowledge, from what i heard the road going to South Sister isn't supposed to be plowed until just before Memorial Day.

Are you planning on the road being open? Or just skinning from Bachelor lot? If your planning on just going up the South ridge you don't need to worry too much about avi conditions. One can avoid most terrain traps on the way up from Green Lakes.

She's talking about clearing it coming from the South. They cleared it to Wickiup Res. for fishing season. JL

I call bullshit on that, it's never opened that early. The local paper is saying that both entities are outta $$ and wondering who's gonna pay for the plowing. But we can dream.

As of Friday, April 11th road is completely snow covered and impassable at the 5 mile mark. Right at the junction to either go to Pole Creek TH or Squaw Creek Falls. Tried to punch through, deep soft slushy snow. probably melted out some over the weekend, but your pretty much looking at 5 miles to the TH. JL

Ivan learn to ski/board for god's sakes. It'll just be that much faster you have a cold beer, or warm whiskey in your hand. I'd give you an old board to learn on but it would only come up to your waist. JL

I heard from the Metolius rep himself that that new Master Cams aren't that good. I checked them out myself and agree with Mark, the trigger needs to be fixed, just kinda weird to get a hold of in tight placements. Agreed, they're a decent cam, but not as good as aliens. I've whipped hard on my aliens, held just fine. I just don't feel comfy buying any new ones. I'm just trying to figure out if GlassgowKiss actually used one yet or is just puking at the mouth again. Good times for sure timmy, i hate that first vid of me. My goggles filled with snow so i couldn't see. I'm not sure what was better, the turns or putting in the sled track with 18" of fresh. You rule it on the 550. Maybe we should post some photos of how bad all 4 of us are sunburned. The tomato face crew. JL

Cool photos, love the contrast with blue sky and white snow. How was the cornice up on Pucker? Where you able to side cut in or did y'all drop it? Sometimes the skiiers right side is much less of a cornice. We should get up there and cut it off so it's now huge in Spring. JL

Nice photos. so did he boot up through the choke on that chute? I'm just curious as you said he skiied from very close to the summit. The way to the summit is looker right from that hourglass. If he went straight up it he was still a LONG way from the summit. All those lines in there look awesome, it's just rare that it's safe enough to be in there. Nice work skating up the road, that adds some work for sure. We're were up on S. Sister the same day and couldn't find anything soft above 8000 ft, mostly rime. How was the snow in the Thayer? thanksf for the TR JL

You don't have to be "in the know" to find Trout Creek. There's a huge fucking sign off the HWY that says Trout Creek Recreational Area. From there you could be clueless and still find the rimrock above the river. If you have any inclination to climb cracks you'd head right to the climbing area from the campground parking area. With the user trail it's as obvious as it can be. Keep it as it is, the guidebook does it's job. JL

I double what MattP said, quality terrain in there. Lots of cool steep features in the way down to Green Lakes area. Early spring conditions with good coverage is the bomb. Most bang for your buck in that area. JL

I'd say a good 10-12 days in bounds and 15 days in the BC. If it wasn't for my job it would be triple those #'s Do dreams count? JL

Pole Creek TH= snowed in, no tracks. Broken Top/Balle Butte= better have a long track, super deep out there. Or wait until mega sledders put a few tracks in out there. Kwohl Butte= good luck, over 3 feet of fresh on the trail. Tried to put the track in and buried my sled up to the windshield. Tried to go in both ways to no avail. At this point only uber popular areas are accessible via snowmo, just way too much new powder. We need a few days for things to settle, but it's supposed to just keep dumping. JL

So do you know how he/she accessed them? The E. facing stuff off of Steens Mt. is what i have my eye on. I've been around there in early spring on good snow years and it's by far the best looking chute skiing in Oregon. Lots of vert with good continuous lines. I've thought about approaching some of the land owners around there for permission to access, but although friendly folk it's a bit intimidating. The other option would be to go up the West side via snomo shuttle and then drop in, better pick the right slot or your fucked with noyone around for miles. You can access the stuff farther towards Fields via BLM roads, Pike Creek Canyon and a few others. But it isn't as good, and hold less snow. And regardless your looking at a pretty long steep approach. I'm planning on getting back there in March if anyone is interested. I've got a line on private land access around Mann Lake. JL

Probably Caffeine Free, was it on the base of the W. Wooden Ship? One bolt is good, the other is loose. Never been removed. I like to joke with folks and tell them it's cruxy between the 2 bolts. JL
