  1. The horns can also be ordered directly from Grivel North America. They are backordered, but they should be receiving them in the next few days. They indicated that they have shipped very few of them out to stores, so there may not be a whole lot of them floating around yet.
  2. Thanks for the head's up! However, I've settled on the WT Belay Parka.
  3. Just bought one of the last blue WT Belay Parka's in the country on sale from Hoochie Mama Mountaineering. Great company!!! Wild Things is no longer making the jacket in blue or slate.
  4. Looking for a Wild Things Belay Parka, Blue, size Large Wild Things has sold out of the blue, and won't make it anymore... Any leads???

    Best Helmet?

Forget about what's cool - just keep your ass safe.
  7. Blue Water Rope Marker - soy ink (I believe) Keep in mind that if a marker is not safe for your rope it probably won't be safe for your slings either...
  8. Hmmm... Sounds like an interesting job... I hope you post in the gear forum.
  9. He's right. I have a pair of the SM 8's. GREAT boot, but the sole is probably too flexible for ice. (I don't have first-hand experience with them on ice though). I would go for a pair of SM 9's or a boot with a stiffer sole that will do a better job of frontpointing with step-in crampons. I'm not sure if this is where you found your SM 8's, but here's a site with SM 9's on sale: Salomon Super Mountain 9's
  10. Patagonia Alpinist Steve House Thursday, November 4, 7:30 PM 100 Willamette Hall, University of Oregon The Outdoor Program is proud to team up with Patagonia and McKenzie Outfitters to host a benefit for Save Our Wild Salmon Coalition (SOS). SOS is a coalition of over 50 conservation organizations, sport and commercial fishing associations and businesses committed to protecting and restoring Pacific Northwest wild salmon, and the communities that depend upon them. Patagonia athlete Steve House is one of the most respected young alpinists in the world today. He combines his rock and ice climbing skills with vast mountaineering experience to move extremely fast on alpine and ice routes. Noted climbs include the first solo ascent on Denali's Beauty Is a Rare Thing, The Gift on Mount Bradley, a new route on Howse Peak (Banff, B.C.) called M-16 and most recently an ascent on Canada's North Twin. Steve has just returned from Pakistan where he continued to push the level of modern alpinism with solo ascents and projects most people never even dream of tackling. Come see his photo essay of his trip to the Middle East and the next great objective. Admission is free, donations to SOS will be accepted at the door.
  11. Sorry, I'm a little confused... There are three boots in Raichle's 90 degree line: Raichle 90 Degree (with Vibram Vertige sole (crampon compatible) Raichle 90 Degree GTX with Vibram Block Sole (crampon compatible) Raichle 90 Degree EXP with Vibram Icetrek sole (newmatic crampon compatible) I tried on the 90 Degree GTX, and looking at the web page it appears to be the beefiest boot in their 90 degree line. When you referred to the 90 Degree EXP did you mean to refer to the 90 Degree or the 90 Degree GTX? The 90 Degree EXP GTX appears to be the least beefiest boot in the 90 degree line. Just a little confused... Can you clarify? Thanks!
  12. Oregon Mountain Community in Portland had the Raichle's. You might call before you go in because it sounded like they were running low on sizes... Thanks for the info on the Pro Ice...
  13. I'm in the market for some vertical ice / mountaineering boots. I need something that will walk well and climb easier vertical ice. So far, I've narrowed my choices down. I've tried a few brands, and I'm looking at Salomons (SM Expert or Pro Ice) or Raichle 90 Degree GTX (the ones that are fully crampon compatible). Has anyone used these for vertical ice? Anyone have good/bad experiences with them? They fit great, but the sole is a little more flexible (more flexible than the Salomon SM experts I also tried on). Will this be too much of a problem? My first ice climbing was in La Sportiva Makalu's. If I seem to remember, the Makalu's were more flexible than the Raichle's can't remember though.
  14. NOLSe seems to have good things to say about the Petzl Sarkens- can anyone elaborate? Has anyone used these for water ice or alpine ice? What binding would you recommend? (Sidelock or Leverlock) G14's - what binding do people prefer? (especially for vertical use) - Crampomatic (step-in) or newmatic?
  15. I needed to replace a hard to find tent pole section, and I came across these folks who are out of Vancouver, WA - T.A. Enterprises 800-266-9527. They have a variety of different diameters and sections. They can even do some custom fit work.
  16. Definitely not serious climbing... But... I heard about an artificial bouldering wall for kids in a city park in Veneta. Yeah, Veneta... Definitely not serious bouldering (for sure). I took some friends' kids, and they loved it. I haven't seen anything like it in any city park I've been too.

During my knee recovery I binged on Teton Gravity Research DVD's. Some awesome big mountain footage, amazing lines, and some amazing stunts. great music as well.
  18. I am looking into a pair of the SM Experts (among others). I have a pair of Super Moutain 8's and love them. My #1 question is how well the Experts work on vertical ice? I need something that is versatile - something that will work for ice climbing (I'll never do anything too high end), mountaineering, and that is comfortable for the approach). Price is a major concern, and you can't beat the SM Expert's price. Any problems with their durability?
  19. Hey, I could be wrong! But, I'll believe it when I have a copy in my hands...
  20. It's all a hoax... It *may be possible* that there are small numbers of demo or comp copies floating around out there. However, the book is definitely not "in print" and available from any distributors... Ingram does not have the title listed, nor is it in their forthcoming. I could be wrong, but it also does not appear to be in Bowker's Books in Print.
  21. I hate to say it, but you might check eBay - it looks like there are some Charlet Moser tools being auctioned...
  22. Wild Country discontinued these biners well over a year ago. Does anyone know of a source that still has some they would be willing to sell? New, unused, never fallen on, etc...
