Salomon lasted long for me, but they would untie themselves all day. Used mostly at work and stepped on many nails with 0 penetrations of skin whilst the guy I worked with had Nikes and had 2 nails get him good. However I have to give a vote for Nike because all the pairs I have owned have lasted forever.

Nice topic. Sorry I don't have any suggestions, but would also like to hear some ideas. I went up there yesterday to check out the area and take pictures and whatever (only been there once on a short drive). I even took my backpack and books, but got a lazy start and ended up wandering to the ice caves-not real exciting, but cool scenery anyway. Fall colors are starting to look good right now. There were metal detector dudes on the trail and 1 impressive mullet guy wandering around also.

After the piece of webbing that held my rack together broke in half with out any stress on it except the weight of the gear makes me scared of all old webbing (luckily this happened on the ground!). It was a piece I cleaned off an old rap anchor, but it still makes me think every time I rappel.

If I didn't honk digital enough I am going to again right now. I have had one for a week (slr type) and have taken more pictures then ever and tried things i wouldn't have with film things I was scared to try because of wasting film and such (i.e. different fstops, time values, and night scenes and such). -One of the best things I think though is being able to set the ISO for individual shots.

I have a zxm too and I really like it. The problem is probably the lens. Most of the time when cameras and lens are sold together a lower quality lens is usually included. Your K1000 probably had a fixed focal length lens? If it did they are usually better then zoom lenses. I have a tokina 28-80mm lens for it, and while it is not by any means a great lens I have been happy with it. I think you can get an adapter to fit your old lens to the ZXM. K1000 is a screw mount I assume? good place for camera questions

Get a polarizer! Even on hazy days with washed out skys you can get good pictures, plus it deepens the blue in the sky. I have liked Hoya's lower priced filters, about $20 dollars. Try slides sometime too as every one has said, you'll be blown away by the difference. On another note I just got a canon 10D digital SLR. I think the quality is as good as 35mm slide and print film. I am sure some photo nut could find some differences, but I am more then happy. It cost about $2000 dollars for everything (lens & memory), but not having to deal with developing is fantastic. I have also found myself taking more pictures then ever with different settings because if the picture turns out crummy I can just erase it right on the spot.

What are you looking for? I am assuming you have a digital as your main camera? For a backup or a slide shooter or whatever consider the Pentax ZXM. It is ALL manual (light meter can be auto) camera that sells new for only $150. Its cheap good camera without junk you may not want or need, and it is light!

You could slam motion sickness pills and nutmeg too. They will both give you things to look at. Probably not a good idea however.
