DH I wouldnt worry too much about the HS pitch. It isnt that bad really, its pretty fun, good gear, heart pounding exposure, fun moves, all there. Go get some!!

Nice job. Good aid route to get things dialed on. I think that cam hooks make things go a little faster but not esential for this route. I Benson(sp) chair and a big wall bong make it a wee bit more comfy although not essential for this route either

Not sure what you are talking about. The Inferno route is right next to it but I dont know if you can see the bolts from the ground. You can see almost all of the fixed belay anchors (3 of em) from the ground on the Passenger. Are you sure it wasnt the Passenger that you were looking at? Midnight ride is to the left. I dont remember seeing any bolts tho the right when I was up there. I dunno, go climb it and let us know Tyree

Index is not "soft" compared to Cali trad grades, its pretty close. I would say some shit is harder some is softer. By saying California you are saying the rest of the West Coast excluding Oregon. Thats a pretty broad brush. There is no doubt that the climbing history is much longer therefore old school ratings are everywhere down there, not so much up here, especially alpine ratings. but who really fucking cares anyway For the record Washington Grades are soft and Index is close.

Mark, if you want NW grades that are consistent with the valley you need to climb at Index. Then the valley ratings will seem right on or easier than Index. Another thing to consider is the climbs in the valley are older than the climbs up here, especially the lower moderate grades ie 5.7-5.9. These were rated when the hardest climbs in the world were 5.10. Some of the scariest/hardest pitches I've climbed were valley 7,8,&9's.

Well if you started at 12:00 and we were down at the col around 4:00 and you guys were still on p5 or 6 that doesnt seem like 3+ hours

Nice TR Sol. Good times! This route is mega classic. I dont know why it gets such little attention in the guide books? It s quality climbing, some of the best in the pass. Dont let Becky's little ambiguous paragraph scare you because it is all there! There is a couple sporty runouts on p.4 that falling would be bad news, but dont fall right? Great exposure and quality sustained climbing on good rock make this route one of my favorites! **** go get some 0-0-0-0-

Thursday (8/30/06)we climbed Passenger route on SEWS. Visibility was OK, there was some haze but nothing major. Didnt notice anything near the Kangaroo either FWIW.

Either a shitty subaru that can get buried under 3 feet of snow that falls overnite and be left till spring or a snowmobile for anything over 4000ft o-o-o-o-o-

Mostly East facing. The elevation of the base is like 3000 ft or something like that. getting across the river will be super burly the next little while til the river flows subside. I have a topo some where PM me if you want it.
