  1. btw, if anyone wants to form an opinion of the show based on a first hand experience it starts at 3pm Pacific Time and one can even listen online at http://www.kqbz.com/ some unoffically archived shows can be found at http://leykisonline.com, including the famous Enumclaw Bestiality show dated 7/18/05. It does take some time for the guy to get you a password. I have a 6MB MP3 copy of the Enumclaw show I'd be happy to share...PM me your email address. Or maybe someone with a website or FTP could post it.
  2. Somehow I'm missing the (inside?) joke about the word "speach". I don't agree that it's abhorrent. It's no worse than a newspaper publishing names and crimes based on police reports, television showing images of US bombs dropped on civilians, or religious radio stations broadcasting hate messages about abortion. If anything, it rousts people like yourself to action to correct the injustices you perceive in his words. Btw, what specifically to you object to in his message? What exactly has he said that's riled you up so?
  3. Thankfully I'm not attracted to women who fall for (or expect) that kind of crap. I prefer my friends and lovers to be confident, independent thinkers who aren't afraid to express their opinions. There's no doubt that there are many people, both men and women, who buy into that crap and what's the problem with pointing it out. Should that "weakness" in people be exploited? I don't know....what I do know is that it IS being exploited every day, all around the world. Are we sick for finding it entertaining to hear about? Probably. I see Leykis as a great observer and reporter of the tendencies of people. If there's one thing I'd object to about his philosophy, it would be the encouragement of the exploitation of those observations and trends. But HEY, it happens in all aspects of our lives: business, religion, personal relationships, government, and just about any other arena you could name. (and if this were a formal doccument I'd edit those last 2 paragraphs a bit to make them flow better, but spray doesn't merit that effort.) So, I kick back and enjoy the banter and the sometimes ourtrageous opinions. Ahh....the joys of free speech.
  4. The first hour of his daily show is definitely the best, where he typically starts with a monologue based on a recent event or news article. I agree that it often gets stale when the morons start calling in and try to impress the nation with their pathetic attempts at wit.
  5. thinker, i'm surprised. informative? from the tone of your post, it sounds like he's informative on important issues. derek lowes affair with the nanny is about as important as any other story on the cover of soap opera digest Sorry Minx, try Lowe's affair with the Fox Sportscaster who had been covering his professional performance. This is an ethical issue about a news reporter's professional objectivity (IF one considers sports to be news). link to article I can't say I'm a regular listener anymore (Leykis isn't broadcast here in SLC), but his overall message seems to be "Boys and girls, have fun while you're single. If you're thinking about getting married, you'd better be damned sure they're the one...and you'd better take it seriously because it'll likely cost you a bundle to get out of it." I'd be curious to hear what your objections to that are, Minx.
  6. I actually find Leykis quite entertaining, and sometimes informative. Though I can't say I agree with all of Leykis' opinions, I respect that he's not afraid to stand behind them and debate them head on with anyone. And given the prevailing 'shock jock, spray master, flaming for no reason' attitude here at cc.com, I figured more here would be diehard Leykis fans. On the informative side, Leykis was one of (if not THE) first to publicly break the story on Derek Lowe's affair with Carolyn Hughes. He even scored an on-air interview with Lowe's wife Trinka.
  7. This just isn't right. Targeted guinea pig farm closes A farm is to stop breeding guinea pigs for medical research after intimidation by animal rights activists. The family-run Darley Oaks Farm in Newchurch, Staffordshire, has been at the centre of a campaign of abuse. The owners and people connected with the business have received death threats during the six-year onslaught. The family said they hoped the decision would prompt the return of the body of their relative Gladys Hammond, whose remains were stolen from a churchyard. The remains were taken from her grave in nearby Yoxall in October. Mrs Hammond, who was buried in St Peter's churchyard seven years ago, was the mother-in-law of Christopher Hall, part-owner of the farm. In a statement, a close relative of Mrs Hammond, who declined to be named, said there was now no reason why her body could not be returned. "Gladys was a relative of the Halls by marriage only and had no involvement in guinea pig breeding. "She was a kind, gentle country lady who loved animals. She was also friendly, generous and loving and always put her family first." (story continues)
  8. this is the Bill Gates photo I was thinking of...
  9. yes, and they can be difficult to obtain. policy limits groups to a max of 12. we got our 3rd choice of days and were limited to 8 people.
  10. nope, didn't have time to do any climbing...this was a quick trip down and back. Zion is only a few hours' drive from SLC so I plan to go back for some splitters. cute gal...that's her bf's shoulder in the photo. she's a friend's daughter.
  11. not a bad way to celebrate a 42nd birthday... full report: http://www.cascadeclimbers.com/threadz/s...vc=1#Post491252
  12. Climb: Zion National Park-The Subway aka Left Fork of North Creek Date of Climb: 8/21/2005 Trip Report: 2 mile approach thru alpine meadow/forest and over slickrock 7 of us made the descent into canyon, ran the canyon for about 6 miles, and made the greuling mile+ hike out of the canyon. Larger photos are availble in my gallery. Gear Notes: 60 feet of static rope for rappeling. 10 feet of webbing just in case.
  13. Thinker

    age question.

Good point. In review, I see that I limited my list to those factors that are within any given climber's control.
  14. Isn't Bill Gates supposed to be in that one somewhere?
  15. Thinker

    age question.

what are record age extremes for summiting Rainier?...something like 6 and 86? Age is really irrelevant in this case. Training, skills proficiency, experience, and conditioning will be much bigger factors than age.
  16. that's a good option for 3 good days of climbing. alternatively, The Black Cliffs along the Boise River, a few miles east of Boise are entertaining for a day. There's a book called 'Boise Rock Climbs' or something similar that outlines the climbing in the area. I go to the Black Cliffs during my layovers there (when I don't have the time to go all the way to The City) and haven't been seriously tempted by anything else in the skinny little guide book. The area NE of Boise is RICH in natural hotsprings...get Evie Littleton's book 'Hiking the Hot Springs of the PacNW" and have fun. The Sawtooths aren't too far away, either. edit: search for "Hells Canyon" here....an adventurous option I heartily recommend.
  17. I was "in" Virgin, UT a few times this last weekend.
  18. If I could post the transcript of the video, I would, but that's a little more involved than cutting and pasting a news article.
  19. ... Leavenworth sausage fest. http://www.filecabi.net/v/file/ravenstoke/wmv
  20. I second that. Take care and don't push yourself so hard you relapse. "Fat, happy, and healthy" was my motto for about 9 months.
  21. In my case they were the typical symptoms of pneumonia. It wasn't until some of the fluid from my pleural space was cultured that it was determined to be an antibiotic resistant strain of the common Staph. bacteria. fyi MRSA = Methicillin-Resistant Staphylococcus Aureus and Methicillin is an antibiotic that has a long history of killing S.A. My particular symptoms were a pain in my side, not unlike a strained Latissimus Dorsi, maybe a little lower, and shortly there after severe pain when I laid down to sleep. x-ray and cat scan confirmed the presence of fluid where it shouldn't be. Ironically, I initially went to the doc for antibiotics to treat an inflamed cyst on the back of my neck (above the hairline). I wish my doc would have cultured that beastie and gotten a head start on treating the MRSA if indeed it tested positive. If it really was MRSA it likely travelled from there to my lungs somehow, either internally or externally. While at the doc he asked if anything else was bothering me and I told him I had strained my lats at the cilmbing gym and was in enough pain that I hadn't slept for a couple of nights. He gave me some pain pills, but within 3 days I was back to see him and that's when the x-ray showed up the pneumonia.
  22. I saw ML's bites, and thank goodness they didn't look nearly as bad as that, but they looked like they were on the verge of getting significantly worse or a little better. How are they doing now?
  23. A year and a half a go I had MRSA pneumonia in my lungs and in my pleural space (the space between the lungs and chest wall). 5 days in the hospital, chest tube sucking pink goo out, and a LONG-assed recovery. 4 weeks of self-administered IV (PIC line) Vancomycin antibiotic after discharge from the hospital. Only now am I finally getting my butt up some steep trails here in UT in decent time. My MRSA infection was classified as 'community acquired' (vs hospital acquired), and it's still a mystery to me how I got it. I didn't/don't hang around with IV drug users or prostitutes. My best working theory is that I picked it up at Pub Club.
  24. While you're at it, teach them the more general skills of "self arrest", which can be done with an axe as well as with ski poles, pickets, fingers, frozen horsecock, or almost anything else one may have in their hands at the time of a fall.
  25. I played with them a bit at the OR expo. They didn't seem overly heavy.
