  1. Glad to see the Leavenworth shop being a sponsor. I always stop in and buy something there. Now I'll feel even better about it.
  2. Nothing but postive comments on my part as everytime I've dealt with a Les Schwab dealer I've been treated well. I had a couple tires go bad (on a very bad road)and they replaced them with no arguement. Also, I've never had an arrogant service person at any of the stores I've been to. I can't say that about too many places. A friend of mine was the brake man at the local store and he said they were "under pressure" to always do their very best for the customer. Hmmmmm, not a bad concept.
  3. That thread reads like Saturday Night Live, perhaps one of the funniest I've seen on the net. Once you start reading it, you can't quit.
  4. Great pics and report. The sunset pic towards Stuart is great.
  5. I was thinking about Glacier Peak and a friend said he took this route awhile back.: "Hike the White River trail (above Lake Wenatchee) all the way to White Pass, which we approached from the west up the N. Fork Sauk River. From there you can hike a well-used trail north toward the mountain. It peters out near the ridge with views of GP to the north. You can climb from there, but it's a long day. You can even avoid glacier by staying on the ridge over Disappointment Peak. That would likely be easier on snow, so a fairly early assault might be preferable, as in early July." Anyone else gone that way? Whaddya think? Dean

    funny movies

Try "What's Up Doc " with Ryan O'Neal / Barbara Streisand or Naked Gun with Leslie Nielsen. Also, some of the old Peter Seller's movies where he plays Inspector Clouseau are still entertaining. One more, Ski Patrol is definitely along the line of Dumb and Dumber but it has some decent skiing in it.
  7. Crampons weren't needed yesterday. I carried them, but the condition of the snow is such that no ice encountered anywhere. I started early from Cold Springs and kicked in steps were adequate.
  8. Hey Anna, thanks for the inspiration. After reading this thread, I had to go climb Thielsen yesterday. Really neat climb and amazing views. Summit block was fun scramble. http://www.cascadeclimbers.com/plab/showphoto.php?photo=1329
  9. Lots of great pics Thol. I remember passing your group as you were coming down.
  10. The cloud cap was really starting to take over when I took this pic but it shows the area you are talking about pretty well. I remember looking UP at that as I was on the left side trying to get around a rope team and I thought I hope that doesn't come down on me Your information about the next day was chilling. That thing would have taken a lot of us out if it had happened earlier in the day. Indeed, get an early start.
  11. I summitted between 8 and 9 (no watch, just guessing)yesterday and this reminded me of the Seattle freeways at 5 pm. Tons of people trying to get this one in before the weather gets too warm. A cloud cap was beginning to set in and obscure the summit and any hoped for views from there.
  12. Here's one that looks good. http://www.villagegiftworld.com/shop/zip-lock-bags-2mil.html [ 11-13-2002, 03:40 PM: Message edited by: Dean Lowery ]
  13. A lot of great food for thought in the many responses. Thanks one and all. I plan on using the helmet for mixed rock and ice. I've always avoided helmets but I'm old enough to know that sooner or later not wearing one will catch up with me and now is the time to change my dumb ways. Again, many thanks.
  14. Any experience with the Petzl Meteor or Elios class helmets? Or the Edelrid Ultralight? Or any other helmet for that matter. I'm open to suggestion as I try to decide which one to get. Thanks.
  15. Mountain House has one meal that I always take with me now, their Lasagna. I think that is the one Mountain House meal that I'd vote for. Other than that one, most Mountain House meals (to me) are not overly attractive. Another brand you may not have heard of that has some really good tasting stuff is called 'Enertia'You can find them at http://www.trailfoods.com You have to order them although Der Sportsman in Leavenworth carries a few of their meals.
  16. Unfortunately, sometimes the first time a person has a heart attack, it is fatal. A friend of mine, who had seen his M.D., and was given a clean bill of health dropped dead of a heart attack a few days later. No one is totally safe from this, as Jim Fixx, the guy who authored the best selling book "The Complete Book of Running" found out, he died from a heart attack while out on a regular run and everyone, including himself, thought he was in great shape. My condolences to the family of the hiker.
  17. Klenke, I'd add a couple of even worse possibilities than John Tesh. When I was younger, my parents would punish me by making me watch the Lawrence Welk show. It was so hard to suffer through that suicide would have been worthwhile. The other one I'm thinking of is listening to David Hasselhoff sing (can't act either) At least they had one or two in the Welk band who could yodel on occasion (arrrgggg) I gotta stop this, I may ruin my lurker status.
  18. Russ stated: quote: My inclination is to go with 'fine', 2272x1704. but wonder if just going with 'standard' is adequate? Obviously you never know when the perfect shot opportunity is going to come up. You hit it right on the head IMO with the first thought, going with the 2272x1704 size. You can always reduce the pic to a smaller size with no penalty but it doesn't work as well going the other way. My biggest mistake when I first got my digital camera was to always go with smaller size. When I got a great pic, I was dismayed to find I couldn't make it larger. So if you are going to have to choose between settings, choose the larger one and carry plenty of MB. (can't lurk around here all the time )
  19. Smoker said quote: I want to hear about the time you yodeled your way through Asguard pass only to find that you were 2 months too early and all the enchantments were under 12 feet of snow. Who told you that story? I thought it was a well guarded secret for the past uncountable years but obviously Smoker, you have connections. Now yodeling has been banned by the forest service unless you have a $5 yodeling permit. Violators of the yodeling law are subject to prison time. BTW, I value my lurker status
  20. Like Freeman, I find this an interesting topic because both the main routes have their following. I've been going into and out of the Enchantments since 71 and other than rat creek, have been in or out just about every way there is. Now, my preference is to go in Aasgard and out Snow Creek. I've been out Aasgard probably 6 or more times and I really hate that route since the talus is always shifting underfoot. On a hot day it is a bitch (to me) and it puts real hurt on my ageing knees. The key to doing Aasgard to Snow is having a vehicle at each trailhead. It makes a great day hike for conditioning. I've been out Toketie twice, once down the creek (big mistake) and the other by the Becky route. Crystal creek is ok but a long slog when you add the6+ miles up Ingalls Creek so it still really boils down to whether you prefer Aasgard or Snow Creek and to me, either works but each makes you pay a different price. The Enchantments still are worth it, regardless of what way you go in.
  21. I'm going to step up to the Canon G-3 from my Canon S-100. Overall I've been happy with the small size and ruggedness of the s-100 along with the fact that it takes decent 2.1mp pics but I stumbled on the review of this one, the G-3 http://www.imaging-resource.com/PRODS/G3/G3A.HTM and I'm waiting for it to be available in three weeks. A friend of mine uses the G-2 and his pictures are outstanding.
  22. Anyone used the Crystal creek route to get into the Enchantments from Ingalls Creek? I'm thinking about McClellan Peak Answers to this will be appreciated.
