  1. Wow, this is reading like a Jerry Springer transcript.
  2. Driving back from Spokane this weekend, we had to swerve on I-90 to avoid a driver who swerved toward us. I looked in the driver's window -- female, probably in her 20s, was texting at 70mph. If she keeps it up, she'll kill an innocent person one of these days. If it's a cyclist, she probably won't even get ticketed.
  3. We should charge all teenage boys who sneak one past the goal $25k for their stupidity.
  4. You don't need to be a doctor to know that parachute use reduces major trauma related to gravitational challenge.
  5. The mountaineers wall is a public park. Saw MattP, CBS, LSkoog there a few weeks ago

    Take!

yeah, "take" is easy to say, much like "fuck"

  10. Isn't that the org's own fault w/ branding, if indeed it is unfortunate? Seems also that some members of the Mountaineers think that "Mounties" has more of a derogatory connotation.
  11. Out of curiousity, what time of day? What weather/snow conditions? Hot and slushy?

    Take!

I've heard Brits use "secure" for "off belay"
  13. When someone dies, the bacteria inside of them does not.. in fact they are not held in check. Same reason a dead cow gets bloated. Similarly, the bowels could have been released into goretex pants. At some point, the body is disturbed (for example, while bagging the body), and gases built up come out at once. If a fouler odor exists, I haven't smelled it.
  14. Unfortunately you ruined your original, perhaps legitimate, argument with ad hominems and biased interpretations. btw, "Mike" == Mike And I'd love to have a discussion on the social implications that rock stars don't have to obey rules.
  15. That is the story I was thinking of (boy, did I contort it). I'm pretty sure it was in one of John Long's books, maybe Long on Adventure.
  16. That to me sounds like, "I'm some pawn peon grunt rescuer doing jack shit, and I'm going to be cool by snapping the best picture of this compared to anyone else, because that's the only way I can feel special," as opposed to, "I have a fetish for dead bodies." Besides, anyone experienced around dead bodies will want to keep their distance to avoid the death burp.
  17. The picket and the fluke didn't feel bad about it.
  18. I guess you haven't read John Long. Rescuers find dead guy. Rescuer1=>Rescuer2: His jacket looks like it might fit you.
  19. Wow, you sound like you're channeling Limbaugh or O'Reilly. One of the things she was getting at in her book is if you're top in your field, you don't have to follow the same rules as everyone else. Because your production is more important than discipline or fairness. The same behaviors found in the book are found in the business setting, on athletic teams, etc. I have met most of the people in the book, including the author, and know a subset of those people more in depth. It is interesting to connect the gossip from the past five years with stories in the book. An example would be the fallout caused by an infamous TR here that made props to a cool ranger.
  20. In an ideal world, they'd offer. Do you think you were sufficiently assertive? I think you had every right to pull one of their ropes and climb.
  21. There was a similar sound last night a few times btwn 10PM and 2AM in the Bryant neighborhood. Didn't quite sound like a helicopter, and seemed louder. They had better have had a damn good reason to make such noise at that hour.
  22. awesome! summit chief does really look like south side of stuart! what was the issue w/ getting over to chimney rock/overcoat? cornice/cliffs?
  23. I disagree. And in fact, at least one guidebook may expressly prohibit it.
  24. it comes down to context. assuming the crags: is it contrived to avoid the tree, because they didn't remove it, lest the econazis attack? or is the tree out of the way and avoids a natural, harder rock move? Many trees are in at squamish. The BoC tree at Index is not in. Regarding the alpine -- it's all in.
  25. haha, a gated community, the ultimate bastion of safety and security.
