  2. It was fun to put names to faces. I got to the CC.com camp fire in time to meet everyone before they split to climb XY cracks. The whole crew was pretty far gone by the time I got there. I did get to follow SK up R&D and got ragged on by my wife and sister for letting her and Greg W jump ahead of us.
  3. I'm out of here too! See you in 11worth in a couple hours.

She wouldn't need a gear sling. She would just rack her gear off the underwire in her bra.
  5. I will be there with my wife, 2 kids, mother, sister, brother-in-law, neice, and a co-worker. Everyone climbs except mom and neice. We are all planning to be in 8-mile Friday, hopefully before dark.

    OK, see ya there!
  7. The dogs would have no problem with S Sister, it is a walk up. I don't have any beta on broken top.
  8. We will be there with at least 3 families and various singles. We should have a plate at the entrance with the camp numbers of the CC.com groups. That way we can troll for who brought the best beer.
  9. No, Wait, maybe this would be better: A man was going up to bed, when his wife told him he'd left the light on in the garden shed - she could see it from the bedroom window. But he said that he hadn't been in the shed that day. He looked himself, and there were people in the shed, stealing things. He rang the police, but they told him that no one was in his area, so no one was available to catch the thieves. He said OK, hung up, counted to 30 and rang the police again. "Hello. I just rang you a few seconds ago because there were people in my shed? Well, you don't have to worry about them now, I've just shot them all." Within five minutes there were half a dozen police cars in the area, an Armed Response unit, the works. Of course, they caught the burglars red-handed. One of the policemen said to this man: "I thought you said you'd shot them!" He replied, "I thought you said there were no cops available!
  10. No, what we really should do is something like this: George Phillips of Meridian Mississippi was going up to bed when his wife told him that he'd left the light on in the garden shed, which she could see from the bedroom window. George opened the back door to go turn off the light but saw that there were people in the shed stealing things. He phoned the Police, who asked "Is someone in your house?" and he said no. Then they said that all patrols were busy, and that no one was available at this time, and that he should simply lock his door and an officer would be along when one became available. George said "Okay," hung up, counted to 30, and then phoned the Police again. "Hello. I just called you a few seconds ago because there were people in my shed. Well, you don't have to worry about them now cause I've just shot them all." Then he hung up. Within five minutes three police cars, 2 Armed Response units, a Helicopter and an ambulance showed up at the Phillips residence. The police caught the burglars red-handed. One of the policemen said to George: "I thought you said that you'd shot them!" George said, "I thought you said there was nobody available. [ 09-17-2002, 02:34 PM: Message edited by: Gordonb ]
  11. We will have a fire (or two depending on how big a crowd actually shows up) complete with s'more makins.
  12. So who is going to be in Leavenworth the end of Sept? We should have a rather large group drinking copius quantities in 8 mile campground planing what route to fall off next.
  13. Do like we did and get a real Guide dog in training. That way the vest is legit. Of course you actually have to train the dog. Guide Dogs For the Blind is always looking for puppy raisers. check out http://www.guidedogs.com For the record, we don't take our guide dog into the MRNP when we hike. (we might take him if we were just kicking around Paradise).
  14. I was talking about checked bags. I had my checked bag soaked with Kaluha one trip. If that had been white gas it would have made my soft side bag into a potential flameball. I don't have any problem with sealed canisters, but the airlines have to be conservative and they have to make it simple for the security types. Do you think that the same folks that are confiscating tonail clippers would let through flamable gas no matter how it is packed? The rules aren't there for safety, they are there to make people feel safe.
  15. I can see (but don't agree with) not allowing used containers. The fumes can be fairly explosive. It is an overboard response to a perceived security threat. [ 08-16-2002, 11:18 AM: Message edited by: Gordonb ]
  16. Also an improperly sealed fuel canister could leak and cause a very flamable mess. The FAA has to assume that whatever fluid is packed will not stay in it's container. Personally I agree. I don't think full fuel canisters should be allowed on a plane.
  17. quote: Originally posted by Jim: Hmmm. Maybe I just was just unlucky and had the trainees with eagle eyes checking my checked pack. Each time I was snagged after checking the pack, and they found it after it went through the mondo x-ray thing. Then they asked Vat iz dis! That is when you hit the deck and yell. "WATCH OUT! IT'S GOING TO BLOW!". The security folks love that shit.
  18. We were planning on the last week of July, so there is still about 3 weeks for meltoff.
  19. I am looking for beta. I want to take my kids and wife on their first multi day back packing trip (they have done lots of overnights) and we were looking at going from Ipsut Creek to Mystic Camp. How is that route? We are thinking 2 days to mysic camp, two nights there and 1 or 2 days out. The kids are 9 and 13 and I am tring to make the trip enjoyable. More focus on being outdoors than trying to conquer. I have never done this route and also have a bad reputation with the family for mis-remembering the diffulculty of a route.
  20. We tried that trick in WA state at Icicle Creek and got a ticket anyway. YMMV.
  21. hey! I offered via PM and was denied, but it would have to be lunch time. We are usually there Mon, Wed, and Fri. [ 06-20-2002, 09:48 PM: Message edited by: Gordonb ]

    Muir on Saturday

It is easy and tasty too! Everyone should have one!
  23. We just have to get this onto page 47!
  24. Dan Larson SUX! just had to be said
  25. I never found a place to rent whitewater kayaks anywhere. It seems the liability is too high. Whitewater rafts are easier to find, but still rare to find without a guide. We used to rent from Swiftwater in Fremont, but that was many years ago and I am not sure if they are still around. I just checked qwestdex.com and they have an entry for them.
