It warns the participant that the activity may be dangerous and the risks involved beforehand and discourages a claim. Ah. That explains why when I recently signed a couple of waivers, the person behind the desk said that they aren't really "valid".
  2. quote: Originally posted by erik: theres medication for that....though i think you need to find a specific doctor for the scrip..... Yo, ericccc - last I checked, you don't need a scrip for Hefeweizen!

  4. Am I the only one that doesn't cook on trips anymore? I eat only cold stuff, and leave the stove at home unless it is absolutely necessary for melting snow. I find it hard for me to eat when I'm working hard anyway, so I pretty much have to force myself to eat on trips. So for any early morning summit day, for me it's a Cliff bar and a couple of Vivarin for breakfast, Gu all day, and dinner in town.
  5. By the way, speaking of keys... http://204.17.38.253/2001-11-15/ianon.html
  6. Another good thing to put in your car windows is a few standard targets that have been shot-up at the range. Better than NRA stickers.
  7. If you're really concerned, spend a couple of bucks and ask a lawyer about this and have them write the waiver for you. I'm sure they could give you more reliable legal advice than us anonymous posters on this site. As someone said to me on another topic - "This advice is worth what you paid for it...".
  8. And let's not forget the REAL star...that sorry barmaid that we ran ragged after we quadupled the Park Pub's ususal Tuesday night crowd! HA! And $2.50 pints on Tuesdays! Serendipity... Attention Seattle area pubs: FEAR US.
  9. UIAA is the Union Internationale des Associations d' Alpinisme, also known as the International Mountaineering and Climbing Federation. http://www.uiaa.ch/ CE stands for Conformité Européenne, and oversees european "product conformity". http://www.euroconform.com/ The UIAA deals with mountaineering, the CE deals with just about all products sold in europe.
  10. quote: Originally posted by chucK: My front page and "last 40 posts" page aren't showing me the latest posts today (like it ignores the pub club thread). Is this happening to anyone else or is it screwiness isolated to my box? Yeah, I notice it, too. I just figured it was something going on while they were working on the servers...
  11. quote: Originally posted by erik: another reason why gear stickers on your car are a bad idea...... That's why I shake my head when I see Mountaineers stickers on cars...to me that's like posting a sign on your car that says "I'm going to be gone all day". My old trash veedub bug was broken into at a trailhead a few years ago...must have been kids, because there was nothing but crap in the car but they took everything - cassettes, change of clothes, ice scraper - and they couldn't figure out how to get the stereo out, so they stole the knobs and face-plate.

  13. I've been sleep depped a number of times before, and I HATE the feeling. I start talking like Tarzan ("Me want food") and can't concentrate. The worst was one time coming back from a ski trip, driving down I-5 just getting into Seattle, and falling asleep at the wheel doing 65 mph. Woke up in the back of an ambulance with a couple of state patrolmen looking at me.
  14. quote: Originally posted by Bronco: I would suggest that everyone start posting " oh yeah, top of the page mama!" on the first post of a page on every stinking thread on the board. Yo' momma.
  15. We bivvied at 6500' on the north ridge of Stuart, and the goats kept walking around us. They also knocked a rock or two from above, but they were a minor distraction compared to those goddam snafflehounds. Those little bastards were relentless. It got to the point where I was sitting in my bivy bag with my ice-axe in my hand just waiting for the little rats to come back. Woke up my partners sparkin' off the rocks with my axe. I'm not sleeping on that route again. (Yeah, I know, it's their home.) [ 03-25-2002: Message edited by: lizard brain ]

  17. And there should not just be access fees, but hourly-use fees, paid in advance, with a reservation system that requires at least a nine- month notice. [ 03-25-2002: Message edited by: lizard brain ]
  18. quote: Originally posted by JoeTool: And while were at it, I was thinking it would be cool if there was some sort of mandatory belay certification you had to get before you could belay anyone. And that certification should be provided by the Mountaineers.
  19. quote: Originally posted by Dwayner: Dude! Ain't it Enumclaw's turn this week? Too late, dude! Motioned, seconded, and the Ayes have it! Park Pub, here we come! Mapped out, directions posted...I'll have the GPS coordinates for yuh later...

  21. If this weather holds out, I'm heading for Muir tomorrow, and PUB CLUB when I get back (if I'm back late, I'll just skip the shower). Anyone care to join me? I'm leaving Seattle at 5:30.
  22. That was nothin'. Here's the real thing... http://www.saunalahti.fi/~jylppy69/fulabrudar.swf
  23. Can I have your job? I'm looking for one right now.
