  1. Biggest single Phil-bomb I know if is 12/26/79, Oakland Arena: Brown-Eyed Women, about 1-2 min into it.
  2. What do you mean? Nothing reveals your true badass nature like a cartoon taking a leak. You're lucky I don't have room on my duelie's window for more of 'em or I'd put one up with you on it, right under my nascar sticker. I'm built Ford-tough just like my rig. I burn $40 in gas getting to work each morning and proud of it. Chevy sux, and I'll piss on it whenever I damn well please. [ 04-15-2002, 03:27 PM: Message edited by: imorris ]
  3. You mean these stickers?

  5. I forget - does that make him a bowling pin or a nerf bat?
  6. Nonsense, Twight shuns the +8000m scene as the excessive peak fees don't cater to small hardcore alpine ascents. and where would the GU come from? Some kind of nasa patch I guess.
  7. And Olympus Mons pretty much ices that tedious debate about the tallest hill we had a while back.

  9. Climbed most of it already. All choss and the odd golf ball from Buzz Aldrin or whatever. Dynos were easy, but frequently put you off route.

  11. Nothing more pathetic than a tiff between two internet bulletin boards. Twight would be sick. As sick as he gets when he sees someone using the layering system.
  12. Anyways, back to the Twight topic: I use a cable survival saw for my gear sling. Padding on the gear sling is unacceptable and I'll personally kick the shit out of anyone who uses gear slings with metolius patches on them. And if any of you pansies have flowers on your gear sling you'll get what's coming to you. Oh yeah and I have a halva I.V. going right now and I slab climb with crampons in summer.
  13. Indeed, dove-tailing with Don or Dave from Alpine when they shuttle the ACC's general camps can make the helicopter prices quite reasonable in summer. Large quantities of alcohol and fresh vegetables can also be brought in (worth the price alone).
  14. Hiking up Swan Creek to Fairy Meadows in the summer is supposed to be "character-building" (mosquitoes, switchbacks, mosquitoes, etc). The helicopter makes sense (and a short flight in summers to FM or Great Cairn). In winter Palmer Creek (approach to Sandford) is apparently a severe avalanche terrain trap. I think it's great that there isn't a play-by-play guidebook to the area. The climbing is much more of an adventure that way, and you can read the old CAJ entries to get route info (there is a good collection on Sir Sandford in the Great Cairn Hut). The traverse from FM to Great Cairn is fairly straightforward, but we ran into some difficulties descending Azimuth Ridge (mainly avalanche danger). Adamant Meadows is another option for a base camp which puts you in striking distance to the Adamant range and Sir Sandford. Unless you want a hut. Great Cairn is in a beautiful spot but it's a haul to most of the climbing in the area.
  15. quote: Originally posted by Fairweather: (clip)...correspondents have gone over to FOX. (Juan Williams, Maura Liasson) I guess they saw the error of their ways. (clip) FOX is quite simply the worst news source on the face of the earth. Comparing them to NPR is totally ridiculous.
  16. quote: Originally posted by sketchfest: What's PRG charging now for the honor of pulling on plastic at their little piece of climbers paradise? You must be certified for pulling, and wear your pulling card at all times while in the gym. It's $20 up front for the card, and then $1.00 per pull after that.
  17. I think strickland's made some inspired attempts. Dunno if they succeeded.
  18. Try the side of the Mt Hood Brewpub in G. Camp for some inebriated bouldering.
  19. B.C. SELKIRKS - ADAMANT RANGE Just got back from 10 days up in the Adamants. We were helicoptered in to Fairy Meadows in overcast conditions. Next day it dumped six inches of new snow. Skied the trees. Next day was clear, so we skied out to Pioneer Pass over the Granite Glacier. Icefall is visible but crevasses were mostly buried. Next day we skied through Friendship Col and climbed Pioneer and Sentinel peaks. Both had spectacular views of the rest of the Adamants (often called the mini-Chamonix of the Selkirks). If you want big walls to climb in an outrageous alpine setting, you'll find them here. Skied from the col back down to the meadows. Following day was spent yo-yoing some slopes, then a friend and I traversed the Adamants through Thor Pass, across the Adamant and Thor glaciers, over Azimuth ridge, and down to the base of Mount Sir Sandford to the Great Cairn Hut, where we weathered out a few storm days waiting for a break to get a helicopter in to get us out of there. Southern aspects were dangerous (deep faceted layers under a crust, and now loaded w/ new snow). A spectacular trip, good weather when we needed it.
  20. Whatever you decide, just be sure to girth-hitch them with dental floss.
  21. I don't think the range of the Tracker is nearly as important as some have suggested. It is a fine beacon that produces fast recovery times. I think the range measurement is highly overrrated. The main issue is how fast and how reliably in the real world are people finding their buried partners, and in that respect, I think the Tracker performs admirably. 23. There are currently two last-minute spots open on a ski trip to Fairy Meadows in the Selkirks (near the Adamant and Nobility Ranges). It starts at the end of next week, so this is a spontaneous reaction check! We want to fill our helicopter ride. You want to ski. It's that simple. You can find out all the details at this link here
